thank you so much for bumping!!! i was thinking no one was going to respond and sadly thinking my LHCFers let me down. I'm SO happy to see some responses...

MizaniMami...you can post as many tips as you want!!! i'm just seeing such long beautiful healthy hair on this board, i wanted to create a simple compliation of best tips and ideas - so that newbies & older members alike can get some new ideas. share thoughts. whatever.

as for me...my best tips are:

1. Conditioner washing - its worked miracles for me. i used to have very dry scalp and dry hair. Now that I mainly CW - my hair doesn't itch, doesn't flake and its rarely dry.

2. Moisturize like a maniac - for obvious reasons. i'm in love with jojoba oil! i appy about a nickel sized amount every night. even if my hair was feeling dry, it doesn't after jojoba oil. its, by far, my favorite oil.

3. Avoid Scissor Happy Stylists - i stole this one from Supergirl, but its so true. If your hair is healthy and in good condition, you don't need to have 1-3 inches cut off every 4-6 weeks. stylists try to convince us of this, but its not true. and 1-inch to a stylist is 3-inches in regular ruler measurements.
yes, hair does need to be trimmed to keep it in optimal health & looking good. but i throw the rules out the window. i do lots of S&D missions (seek & destroy split ends) with very sharp, hair only scissors. i go to my stylist for a trim as needed. every 6 months usually. by avoiding heat & moisturizing, my hair barely splits anymore. but if you do the math and your hair only grows 1/2 inch per month and you're cutting off 1-3 inches every 2 months...that doesn't add up to lots of quick growth. imho.

4. lay off the heat - the most important tip. i LOVE the way my hair looks sleek and flat-ironed straight. unfortunately, for me, that comes with lots of split ends. also, i'm a dancer so with 4 rehearsals a week and 6 workouts a week - that flat ironed hair ain't lasting. i now, flat iron maybe once a month. usually not even that often. yes, i miss my sleek, straight hair. but i love the health its in...and when i do wear it straight now, it looks even better than before.

more tips...keep 'em coming! they're great!

You welcome girl. I dance too. We do hip-hop and African.:)
And I feel you on the flat ironing, give I love my hair flat ironed. But I am in detox for it (seriously).

So..Now that I can post more tips...

Baggying-keeps the ends moist, I hardly ever have breakage once I learned not to make my ends too wet.

Grease-as Poohbear said, it actually LOCKS the moisture right it. I use it on the last 5-6 inches of my hair after applying heavy leave-in to those ends. Tahnk you CandyC

Profective Breakfree-the perfect mixture of daily protein and moisture. Even though it has a big scary cone in it, I love it and it doesn't buildup.

Following my regimen and consistency-Once I follow my own regimen and stay consistent my hair doesn't fail me. Minimal to no breakage too!

I think i need to learn this. What are the differences?
Moisturizers add moisture to your hair. Moisture is a liquid diffused or condensed in relatively small quantity and that is basically water.

Sealers coat the hair providing a protective covering along the hair shaft. It seals in and blocks out moisture at the same time.

Relaxed:

1. Stretching for longer than 12 weeks

2. NOT doing my own relaxers ( This was my biggest hinderest)

3. Not combing ( Just finger combing my rollerset)

4. Rollersetting and lest heat.

Texturized:

1.) Minimize manipulation
2.) Moisture (especially useful with the baggie method)

1) Moisturizing my new growth when stretching my relaxers to keep it soft and prevent breakage.

2) Learning how to maintain the protein and moisture balance in my hair which also helps to prevent breakage.

3) Growth and thickening aids such as MTG, Biotin, and MSM.

Pay attention. As my hair gets longer I notice that I have to tweek my regimen to give it what it needs.

Moisturize daily, root to tip.

Protect your hair from the elements, especially the winter cold.

Thanks Poorbear!

Now I know some may think that that was a "short-bus" question, but I really didn't know.

I was steading drenching my hair with all this oil thinkn', "oh yeah, I'm mosturizing." Boy, was I so wrong....

moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

protective styles

limit direct heat

low manipulation

Taking control of my hair care journey, by self-relaxing and keeping away from scissor happy stylists.

No combing dry hair, and keeping it moisturized and oiled.

~Rollersetting is

~USE WHAT WORKS!!! Even if it's grease, Pink Oil Moisturizer or Infusium 23....if it works wonders for your hair.....USE IT!!!

i'm relaxed and my hair is very thick and coarse. what's worked the best for me is biweekly shampoos followed by deep conditioning under the dryer for 15 minutes. also using wide tooth combs and combing my hair very gently.

good tips...i've been wondering how i have to change as my hair grows.

what are you moisturizing with when you moisturize root to tip? do you do this at night or morning? are you protecting from elements by wearing protective styles or by doing something else?

Natural hair (straightened with a hot comb) 1-2x's per year
For retaining healthy length the two that worked for me are:

  1. Protective Styling combined with the Baggie method - I wash my hair and spray on conditioner mixed with Infusium, olive oil, castor oil, water, curl activator and essential oils. Slather on vaseline and put a baggie over this. I spray with conditioner mix everyday and put the baggie back on my hair.
  2. Gently Detangling by sectioning hair and pre-treating with castor oil/aloe vera/essential oils/olive oil.

Chicoro,

how do you style your hair? and how do you usually wear your hair on a daily basis? it always looks sleek & straight at the root. my hair never looks sleek & straight at the root (unless i dampen it & applying a lot of condish, then smoothing it back with a brush to make a ponytail or bun.) i notice that you only straighten 1-2x per year...so how do you do your hair? and what do you do with it at night? and how do you dry it after washing? also, do you wear the baggy at night? i can't imagine that you baggy & phony pony all that hair.

Deep conditioning weekly
Stretching relaxers
------------------------
Minimal Heat
Moisturize daily
Protective Styles (bunning)
Baggie Method

Okay...the rules where changed by time I got here. So I listed more than 2.

Only two tips!! I'll try to narrow it down!

Stretch your relaxers (i cringe when I think i used to get a relaxer every 6 weeks:perplexed )

Protective styling really helps

Natural - 3c/4a

Daily conditioner washes
A follow-up with a good, creamy moisturizer after a conditioner wash
Combing only when it's wet
Absolutely no heat
Wide-tooth combs only
No straightening whatsoever - just leave it the heck alone

I know that's more than two tips but sometimes I have these moods where I don't feel like following directions.......
