Whats the Dominican salons secret!

i only let them blow dry the roots and then wrap so for me it was the PIBBS dryer (yes I checked when I sat down lol ) and the tension they used to set my hair on large rollers.

I bring my own products usually.

I did look at all the stations teh last two times i went and took note of the products they used.

One of the products they used on my roots was by Kuz. It worked wonders. She put a comb in and held the blow dryer over it and it was straight and shiny.

I also noticed this product and purchased it. The lady used it on my roots just before Blowdrying. How did they use it at that shop?

I do not loose a single strand of hair if my hair has been relaxed within a couple of weeks I equate that to the leave in salerm conditioner in the vial and the Salerm mask.

I went and I think its a combination of : the products, how much they apply of the product to your hair, and that hot dryer. My stylist used heat protectant on my roots so that was a plus. And my hair stay light for two weeks even after I was putting moisturizer on it every day. I still don't know what she rolled my hair with. I'v been looking in every beauty supply for that bottle. I just know it was white. And she didn't use that much or that many rollers either. I was done with everything in less than two hours.

I go every week and I haven't experienced any damage.

my stylist doesn't use high heat. there's no pain involved. she doesn't pull hard with the brush either. so i guess it depends on who you go to.

maybe what you're looking for is the result of technique and minimal product, like everyone is saying. I also noticed when my hair is washed they don't pile it up on top of my head to soap it up. it's laid out as if i'm standing in my shower. so it doesn't get tangled. also they apply a rinse and comb it through with a wide tooth comb under running water

that way when the hair is set it's not tangled and doesn't need to be combed out. this results in less pulling and fewer hair lost.

Yeah - its pretty much all about the heat and minimal products BUT... i have just gone for rollet sets and wrapping and my hair still looks great when i unwrap the next day. I just think they are really good at rollersetting and used to dealing with 'hard to manage' hair. I see ALOT of women come out of the salon with long hair, despite the heat. And when i was 'less than hair educated' i even let one of them blow dry my hair from wet! :nono: and never had any damage (my hair was natural at this time).
I've been to white, black and even asian stylists and have always been disappointed. The dominicans do a good job and they are so much more affordable - you cant lose. Once a month seems good to me, but i personally dont think you need the blowdryer for swing.

I agree with you on this too!!! I've been 4 times...the first time I just got the roots blown(oh my lawrd!!!! to hot for me)

The last 3 times just a roller set, then that night I will cross wrap my hair. So it is a combo, plus I always thought why I so not see any hair stands on her comb??

Here is a picture of a roller set from the domni salon, no blow outs!!!

I think u have to have very strong hair to withstand the blow-outs. Ive seen too many with fine hair end up with see thru hair bc it rips all their hair out. You have to have the kind of hair that can be pulled/stretched a good amound without breaking. Im hesitant bc although the strength has gotten a lot better lately with henna,etc....Im still worried about it getting ripped out with the brush and hot dryer.

One of my pediatric homecare patients mom is dominican and her hair is coarse almost like black 3c to 4a hair...but it is strong like horses hair! She can yank the dryer through her hair, and flat iron it every few days and its thick from root to tip and swinging. She also relaxes ever 30 days! The only way I see that she is able to do that is her hair is able to withstand much more stress than most...I would be bald if I did that....lol.

ok I agree with this everything you say is the same for me . I never loose anyhair ( oh believe me I always check ) and as far as for the comb for some reason my hair is not tangled either when I get ready for my rollerset . also I had gotten a blowout b4 and I feel like both are beautiful and feels nice. I like the roller sets since I go every week
now as far as the products . this is all i can remember shampoo, DC steamed with silicon mix( makes my hair very strong) and salerm21 and rollerset . now I think she also use the rinse but when she is washing my hair I am out of this world because it feels so good . I am going to take my kid to get hers tomorrow so I will pay attention to the products ok.

I also noticed this product and purchased it. The lady used it on my roots just before Blowdrying. How did they use it at that shop?

She put a little in her palm and then spread it on my roots. She then put a comb in my hiar and pulled the hair taut and went over it with the blowdryer.

They had it for sale at the salon too. I was thinking of buying it.How much did you pay for yours?

Nice rollerset. Your daughter is so cute and her hair is beautiful!

I think it's the products, the way they wash the hair
and those rollersets. In that order... The blowout is just
the icing on the cake. I use the same methods sans
a blowdryer and get the same effect... I do saran wrap and flat iron my roots
though.

I am loving your hair picture in your sigie!

thank you that's very sweet of you

my hair is fine (textured). I wish it were coarse. when I used to have it blown out from wet with a hand held dryer, and then curled using those hot black irons on a stove it was visibly thin. ever since I started roller setting it is healthier. but i had to shop around and find a dominican salon that didn't use the heat of hell on my head!!! lol

I think the reason for less shedding is the conditioners. Ive been going for about one year and I can say my hair has NEVER been this healthy. It is sooo soft and stays so straight never reverting and i am natural. I believe it is all in their conditioners.

The only thing is i really don't care for the blow drying, sometimes the heat is too hot. but i think if you keep in deep conditioned and use minimize the heat on your hair your should be fine.

I'm trying to contact the different dominican product companies and maybe ask a few dominican stylists what makes them such a special niche market. So, look out for those interviews. Also, I am contacting Diane DaCosta to ask her about the different techniques for straightening hair. Look for that in the link below. I'm going to get on Salerm and Lacio today.

That stuff was $17.00 USD

your hair looks very pretty! Do u know what conditioners they use on ur hair?

There is really no big secret. When I used to go to the Domincans they would wash, deep condition, rollerset and then do the blowout. The swang is achieved because they put no products in your hair that will weigh it down. The bad thing is when I used to have the blowouts they would use no heat protectant. I can achieve the same swang at home just by washing and rollersetting my hair. Now that I am 23 weeks post all I have to do is flatiron my roots and wrap. My hair still has the swang PLUS body.

I agree. I've got that swing from doing my hair at home too. The funny thing is I learned it from a black salon. The less products the more swing. I don't think it is particularly health thought to get swing with no heat protectant. While I always got compliments on my hair, I did notice that I wasn't achieving my six inches a year. I did maintain my length, but now that i am trying to reach BSL I won't be going for the swing look.
