I just learnt something new, Becoz I really couldnt work out the SL/CBL issue and those visual displays really helped me thanks Nonie

I asked my DH, who pretty much knows nothing about hair and doesn't care, if he could see a difference between SL and CBL. His exact words were "[CBL] is just a little past the shoulder. Just a little bit. They're pretty much the same."

I think that CBL is just a teeny bit past SL... aka Full SL. In my opinion, full SL is when your hair covers your shoulders instead of just sitting on top of them. My hair is currently in this stage.

Before I joined LHCF... actually before I even cared about such hair related things, I definitely did not see a difference between the two. Most people I know outside of hair boards feel the same way. *shrugs*

Even in the photo you posted, I still maintain that when your hair reaches CBL it's full shoulder length. To separate the two is to ignore the part of your shoulder that falls below the part you call shoulder.

Point being that for the majority of people in the world, CBL is SL from what they can see. So to be claiming that when you reach CBL you've past SL is kinda wishful thinking. I'll save you the trouble of doing the search to see what images show up by doing this.

ETA @LaidBak, look at the black line you drew to represent SL. Notice it touches your clavicle right at the center of your shoulder.

...uhm...wow. that's deep (at the bolded)! i clicked the link btw (just HAD to) and at first i didn't know what was going on. google is far too cool (as are you for using this).

anyhoo, i only looked at the photos since it's easier for something like this and generally SL seems to be the same as CBL for everybody. actually there were a lot of people at APL being described as SL but i think that's cuz only the hair obsessed use the arm pit as a marker :look: :lachen: thanks Nonie!

but now... i don't know what to put in my siggie since i'm not CBL and not APL... :ohwell:

OP, ultimately it doesnt matter. The desginations are for your personal use, as none of them are scientific or standard. So none of this is that deep to be spending time researching. You call your length whatever you want to call it. I'mma start using voice box length and first rib length. Maybe even sternum length! LoL!
:lachen: Who cares??! "Longer than it was last time I checked" is all that matters! :lachen:

Before I read this thread I thought maybe I was SL, but was looking for a chart to see it I was correct. Now after reading this thread, the whole CBL thing just confused me! So now I think I'm between SL/CBL working toward APL. Thanks to everyone for this thread I've learned quite a bit!
