What Would You Do If they ran out of Relaxer Cream and Weave Hair?

Since getting married and moving to Puerto Rico, I have given a lot of thought t?o that question. Here in Puerto Rico, they have relaxers(perms), but hair style opttions r limited. MOst Puerto Rican women with kinky hair wear their hair in a ponytail, or just relaxed aand brushed back. They'v never even heard of weaves cause not many stylist no how to braid or work with kinky hair beyond a blow out or roller set. Any hoo , I started thinking about wwhat would I do if I had no relaxers or har extensions available 2 me. How would I feel. About myself, and how would I style my hair. How about you?

My hair is natural and I don't wear weaves, but I think that if I were in your situation I'd take the first ferry boat to the Dominican Republic and get my hair done there LOL Its about an hour on the ferry.

I think I would be okay. I am natural and I don't weaves. Maybe the Dominicans open a salon there.

I don't wear weaves, so I wouldn't be concerned about that. As for relaxers, if I couldn't order them online, I'd just have to go natural. :) However, you can get pretty much anything on the internet, so I you should be able to get everything you need that way.

Yep I'm sure they are making a killing over there!

I told my DH that if I ever moved to El Paso, TX (I love it there) I would make a fortune off being the only Dominican hairdresser there. Of course I haven't even gone to beauty school, but I'm just sayin LOL

Once you starting working with your real texture, it's not as hard as some may think. The only thing I would say is abundantly conditioned and moisturized hair makes it more manegable and so does a person's diet intake.

It wouldn't have an affect on me. I have never worn weaves and I'm natural now. But, if I were still getting relaxers (which I got once a year) I would just go natural.

I'm relaxed even though I relax every 4 months, a lot of people think I'm natural half the time due to my new growth and wearing braid outs, lol. I don't wear weaves so that doesn't even matter to me. I would be A-OK with going natural.

I'd be relieved if hair weaves disappeared. Although I wear them occassionally, I'm sooo tired of black women (speaking generally) depending on them. As far as relaxers, my hair is relaxed, but there are still flat irons, blowouts, etc...lol. I currently stretch 6 months and I will completely stop relaxing my hair one day, so it really wouldn't phase me.

I would say thank goodness!! Maybe now Black women will learn to work with their own and and make it thrive!

I'm 1000% natural and happy to be:yep: I rarely wear fake hair and if I do its for a protective style. I really think its unhealthy to rely on artificial hair to make one feel beautiful.

If its so you can feel styled while you transition or you want to give your hair a break while still wanting to look styled or you're using it as a protective style while you grow your own hair out I think thats cool but I think the way most black women do perms and weaves reinforces an inferiority complex about our natural beauty.

I would love to see that day. As a matter of fact I'd love to see Black women CHOOSE not to use them:yep:

I agree with asummertyme. I'd see it as a money making opportunity, get training in the area of natural hair care and make that killing girl. Don't let that opportunity pass on to someone else. This way you would have the knowledge to do your own as well. Good luck.

It would be my current reality. I don't relax my hair (and haven't for almost 7 years) and I don't wear weaves.

i'd do a long term transition and end up natural!
(all while protective stying underneath a wig i brought over from the US )

If this ever happened, the majority of black women would no longer be bald or have chewed up short scraggly thin hair. It would force people to learn to care for their natural hair.

If this ever happened, many more black women would have hair like this>>>>

I feel ok. Now i'm w/o relaxers and don't really like waves. So is fine for me =)

I love my fake hair...but I'd be just fine without it.

And with no relaxers folks couldn't act stank about my hair and would be forced to accept themselves and that would make me happy.

I guess people would have to do like they did straight off the boat. DEAL WITH IT! I think those that still want straight hair given the eurocentric climate we live in will just press their hair.

I guess I came straight off the boat then:look: cuz I "deal" or more accurately embrace my hair all the time.....

I don't think we can blame it on a eurocentric climate anymore when we chase the idea of straight hair relentlessly. At this point the pressure comes moreso from black folk then it does from anyone else. It was never the white kids in school calling me nappy or telling me I "needed" a perm, that was the black folk.
