I have worn weaves and I usually did between 12-14 inches. I am EL! I look back at pictures and say that was tooo long for my height(5'4), weight, and face. No one who knows me likes my hair that long. So next time when I get a weave I will stick with 10-12 inches. And the 12 inches will be pushing it. Anything longer, I would feel like a fake. My sister likes hers to be reallllyyy long between 18-22inces. But she has the personality and confidence, and face to pull it off. So to each their own.

For me it's more of color than length. I can't stand the blues and greens, etc... just the other day I was at Kings' Beauty and Wig Supply and I heard a mother telling her daughter to buy a blond weave. BLOND.

ladies i have a question :drunk:

when you wash your sew ins.. how important is it to make sure you dry your braids under neath the weave? do you guys always dry your braids. or do you let them airdry along with your hair...?

and if you dont dry them.. have you gotten any bad results? .. i use to always make it a mission to blow dry my braids underneath the hair.. but due to living in somesones house in spain, im trying not to use such powerful energy.

is anything goin to happen to my braided hair if i dont blow dry it? (i.e. mildew, buildup...)

thanks in advance,
*td:grin:

I usually let mine airdry. You can blowdry it or sit under the dryer if you like.

Why is there a "I don't wear weaves" selection? That's not part of the question, is it?

Anyway, I saw some fool at the train station sporting a tailbone-length weave. She looked crazy! Outside eating Chinese food! Ha!

Anyway, I'm glad you gave up the tailbone weaves... yea, everybody KNEW it was fake! :lachen:

I don't want you getting laughed at!

I used to be self-conscious about wearing hair that was longer that what I thought at the time would be considered believable. But now, I wear what I like, which is probably APL or a little shorter. If I'm going to wear fake hair, I'm going all out. :yep:

I don't choose a weave length based on what others think. It's about what you want and how you rock it. Choose a length that goes with your personal style and will frame your face in a positive way, and you can't go wrong.

I don't get anything longer than 10-12 inch...when I do straight weaves...and 12 is even stretching it....that works fine for my face shape etc....I like my weaves to look as realistic as possible...don't need hair all the way down to my behind :look:

yes.. i learned that the moment it's past shoulder length, you're going to be "investigated".. people automatically would walk up to me and my Butt length/straight weave and say, "is that your real hair?" if i said "yes" then there's the automatic weave check. if i said "no" i still got a weave check "but it looks so natural".. while they're smiling victoriously -happy as hell to know it's not your hair. Possibly hoping that you're bald as an egg beneath it all.

since i am older/wiser, i agree with the OP. i stick to a more natural look, and shoulder length or less.. saves me the embarrassment, and having to explain myself. since i've worn my nape length, aamh kinky afro weave, i am NEVER questioned, nor do i get a weave check.

When i was on the runway, no one gave a crap what length of hair i wore. as long as it sold the clothes that was fine. Long hair always seemed to sell clothes. But once i came off that runway, and became just another face in the crowd, yes, i was always questioned about my weave.

I've worn everything from 14"- WL
It all depends on the texture & your confidence.
If it looks like your natural texture I say go for it!
Life's too short to worry about what other people are thinking.

What she said.

I have in 18' right now.

If it leaves people questioning whether its your real hair or not, that means its a good 12' 14' 16' weave to wear. I don't see anything wrong with it.

In the past circa 1999, I didn't mind wearing weaves/wigs down to my butt. I think once I got a little older, I realized that 1) it looked really fake and I couldn't do it to myself anymore, 2) no one would believe that it was real (what's the point in wearing it if everyone think it's fake). I think a part of this is because alot of bw IRL don't usually walk around with real hair that length. So, I know that people would be watching my head extra hard if they saw it.:ohwell:

Now that I've done the short bob weave for the past 3 months, I'm tired of this length and want to be adventurous and get a long weave:grin:. Even though my real hair should be around BSLish, I think I still feel self conscious walking around with fake hair that long. Has anyone else ever felt this way? What do you think when you see women walking around with really long hair that you 'think' is fake?

I love long hair and I don't worry what other people think. I'm not trying to fool anyone I'm just enjoying protecting and growing my own hair.

I was JUST in the mirror with a measuring tape trying to figure out a good length for my sew-in...I decided on 4 oz 10 and 4 oz 12, but it was tempting to get MUCH longer. The main reason I didn't is b/c I don't want to spend the time doing the extra hair or pay the extra money.

When my SO was in town I DID rock my MBL jet black wig out in public...hard. I was FIERCE, honey....FIERCE!

(I am like an inch away from APL and about a 4)

I like to wear hair no longer than my length or much shorter. Only because of my preferences. I don't mind what people wear on their heads though, It is theirs!

But for me, I prefer short hair like the wigs I recently bought, they are a comfortable length. :) and realistic.

I like 16 inches but I usually layer is so I'd say 14 is cool, but when I did where 16 it was really pretty and believable. I think it depends on the install and your look. I once tried 18 and hated it...way too long for me but some ladies can pull it off...just wear what feels right to you and don't worry about what everyone else thinks...your natural hair could be down to your butt and people will still think it's a weave

I used 24" hair for my micros once. They went a little past my waist IIRC. I loved them but I'm not sure I'd ever go that long again.

I've never worn a weave, but I'll be damned if someone is gonna tell me what I should do with my own hair whether or not I bought it

If it looks good to you, wear it :yep:
THIS. I happen to wear weave and i will not look @ anything less than 16inches :lachen: I love the feel of it down my back, i look good with it, get compliments, AND its great practice for when my hair gets there! :yep:

oh yeah, as u can see in my avi, my self-installed braids were definitely down to my waist. i look exotic w/ long hair

I used to wear weaves that were 24 inches. 18 inches and beyond was the requirement for me and even then sometimes 18 inches was too short for me. Looking back, I realized it looked ridiculous, but I pulled it off well. I don't wear those long lengths anymore considering it costs more money and the shorter lengths are very pretty too. You live and learn. :)

I also view hair as an accessory to be changed and played with at will...well, theoretically. In my perfect world, people of all colors could do whatever they wanted to their hair and bodies, changing from day to day if they wish, and none would weavecheck, lecture, or otherwise naysay them.

But my fine theories have to be tempered with the reality of our world and that getting asked about my hair--even when it is growing from my scalp--makes me uncomfortable. It feels too much like people are calling you out, even though I know I've done nothing wrong, and even if they are just being "friendly." . I like being in the spotlight, but only on my terms. I don't like having someone ask me, in front of a whole conference room of twelve people: "Hey, your hair looks shorter than last week. What did you do different?" [I'm thinking: I took off my wig, fool, now kindly sit down and shut up].

So, I'm going to try to stay within 2 inches of my own length. Since my hair grows slowly (or at least appears to), it is not a bad investment to spend money on wigs of a certain length.

My sister gave me a Kardashian-esque synthetic Sensationnel half wig that was just too long for my tastes: it reached BSL. It was already wiggy looking (I tend to think the Kardashian look is particulary prone to that), so I chopped it off to about Armpit-Length.

I just ordered a full wig in a tight curl close to my natural curl pattern and it is quite long--the pic made it look like at least APL even while curly. My real curls are not genetically programmed to hang that long while curly (even though, stretched, the hair reaches past that length). So, I plan to chop off at least 2-3 inches of that wig, too.

APL weave or wig = Less questions = an easier time going about my damn business.

I voted for BSL and longer. I don't wear weaves, but I do wear extensions and I always braid them no longer than APL. Even then, I don't keep my braids loose to show length. I just hate the, "Is that your real hair" question. Plus, in braids, my hair isn't that long- so to me, I feel like it just looks fake.

I Agree, I Lurveee long Weaves, Fun, Sassy, especially when Your going out to the club or a Night out on the Town, gives You a dramatic change up from that Monday to Friday, Working-Girl to that Other Chick thats tucked away. The longer the better! LOL! :yep:
