What is the hair situation in your city?

Well it depends on what side of the city you are on.

There is a lace front side, where every woman looks like a half moon around the hairline.
Then you have the " I paid money for this weave, I'm never letting it go."
Then you have stringy wet hair with no style
Then you just have the plain old puck it section. They put a bonnet on the head and call it a day. These individuals always see crime happen and are given the opportunity to tell us about it on the evening news.

Seeing several women in one day with pretty moisturized, shiny, bouncy hair is like finding a leprechaun throwing gold coins in the Mississippi River.

Houston has some ladies rockin gorgeous natural hair dos. The relaxed heads are probably half healthy half unhealthy no matter the length. I'm not good a spotting a good weave mostly bc its a good weaves but the weaves I can spot a mile away look plastic, matted, tracks showing, and non matching textures. I live in the burbs and don't mind driving into town but I have yet to find a stylist I really like in houston.

reporting from Irvington, NJ. It's a predominately black hood. overprocessed short hair, only a little bit of ppl wit healthy heads, weavie wonders all over da place, maybe cuz of the bss on every other block out here.lmao (I have nothin against weave as I wear it myself). Lacefronts worn like a hot stankin mess, wit da lace clearly showin in da front. (something dat my lil bro started pointed out). yup yup!

I live in Oregon. People either have relaxed hair or natural hair. It's mostly a mix of people who moisturize and care for their hair and people who don't. I see some with well cared for relaxed hair and many with badly cared for relaxed hair just gelled down or greased down to their head. Ashy, dull and broken off ends - just bad. Then there's the natural crowd; some who have beautiful locs or afros and others who wouldn't know what moisturizer was if it hit them in the face. White woman here have either long or short hair that looks healthy and shiny or they have parti-colored dyed to death hair that is dull, frizzy and terrible looking.

Beside the fact that I was dripping with sweat while cleaning the car....I'm a texlaxed/transitioning poofy mess right now. Its always humid near the beaches of SC.

I'm in Edmonton, AB,Canada. Lots of wigs and weaves, some braids, some pretty natural heads and some very dry dry naturals, short dry broken off relaxed heads, and a few long healthy relaxed heads and a few long unhealthy see through relaxed ladies.

NOrth Jersey (Newark to be specific) checking in:

There are a lot of loc'd heads here -- mostly men. 7 out of 10 men seem to be loc'd.
There are also a lot of HORRIBLE WEAVES and POORLY done Lace Fronts walking around.
There are SOOOO many relaxed heads here. 4 out of 10 look bad.
Lastly in comparison to the loc'd and weaved heads, there are not that many loose nappy heads here...but we're around.

What I am noticing is that fewer and fewer women are rocking cornrows, micros and kinky twists.

In lower Alabama, we got ate up edges and lace fronts with a little too much baby hair. A lot of chewed up relaxed hair and too tight braids.

But there are sprinklings of lovely natural puffs and well cared for relaxed hair. It's a mixed bag really.

This is north central Alabama as well :yep:

In ATL..we have tons and tons of naturals...and the relaxed ladies usually have their hair looking right...I don't see too many over processed ladies unless I am in certain parts of town lol. Weaves done right, not that many lacefronts..and if I do see them, they usually look decent and not super extra obvious. Its a good melting pot in ATL

I used to live in irvington on welland ave!!!!! Now I live in niagara falls.. how funny!

In London the vast majority of black and mixed race girls/women have messed up weaves and/or messed up hair. I never ever see a healthy head of hair whether relaxed or natural...

Reporting from south central Louisiana:

I've seen quite a few healthy relaxed SL, APL, and BSL women of color.
The majority of naturals I see are type 2s and 3s, occasionally a type 4.

Young sisters are really taking care of their hair. My sons' high school has significant number of young ladies with relaxed APL or longer hair. I've seen a few at their school that are natural - one appeared to be type 3 and the others type 4.

I usually see the unhealthy hair when I'm in Wal-mart, dollar stores, or some place similar.

In my immediate city there are more hispanic women than anything else so I don't pay much attention. When I go to surrounding cities in LA and Orange county and see black women it's a mixture of everything. Healthy presses, jacked up weaves, beautiful naptural styles, braided styles, etc.

I'm in NYC and it's mixed. I see lots of women with the jet black MBL/WL weaves. I also see lots of women with thinning edges. But I also do see quite a bit of women with healthy APL -BSL hair.

Northside chicago - quite a few naturals. Some with no edges (lost a war with braids?), some gawjus.

Downtown - pretty weave, bad quickweaves, BAM look at that HAIR *must be a lhcfer! cuzz?!?* :thud:

South burbs - woo thatsa lotta weave.. and woo that is jacked up, i saw one natural once :look:

quite the variety. I'm all over the city during the week

What she said. Let us pray

I reside in Northern Virginia. I see a lot of chewed up, damaged relaxed heads. I also see an increasing amount of naturals in these parks.

There are more people sporting dreadlocks, especially around my campus--there are even a fews whites with dreads.

I'm from Ohio, I haven't been all over the state,:lachen: but in my particular city there seems to be a pretty good variety, but TONS of BAD HAIR!

Oh, and before anyone says anything, "BAD HAIR"= Busted edges, busted weaves, busted wigs, dry, scraggly ends, busted, dried out frizzy looking braids, ect, ect, ect.

Most AA women I see on a daily basis have relaxers. Many of the slightly older women have, on average, SL hair that seems moderately healthy, though I do see a lot of thinning edges. A lot of the younger girls seem to have hair that appears somewhat healthy too, though again sometimes I see thin edges and scraggly ends on them as well. Oddly, it seems that the women around my age, (mid/late 20's to early 30's) are the ones with the most jacked up looking hair styles! :nono:

On the other hand, I sometimes see nice wigs, nice short styles and nice micro-braids or kinky twists. I've only seen a few naturals, (including locs) a couple of possible transitiones, and rarely anyone whose hair is significantly beyond SL and healthy. :ohwell:

Reporting from the south suburbs of Chicago: In MY area I see some naturals, some locs, but mostly relaxed hair, more and more lengths beyond SL. I'm also noticing lots of teens and preteens with hair APL and beyond, then I see their mothers and can see why. I've also been seeing more women with long, healthy, real hair cut it all to wear a short cut. When I go into the city the hair pickings get slim. I see so many young girls and grown women with either way too much weight from braid hair on their heads that I don't see how their little necks can support it, or NL or shorter. My least favorite is the three inch "ponytail" cocked ace-deuce off the sides of their heads. There is also a lot of weave. I see a lot of "big hair" :look: at church. Overall, I think the hair situation usually correlates with the economic situation of the area.

Reporting Live From SC:
Boy let me tell you!
On the ghetto side of things you have your:
-Multicolored 57-step weaves that vary from barely ear-length to ***-Length
-Mo-hawks with eat up edges
-Super tight microbraids, styled to resemble that of a peacock's tail
And my finallly (my favorite)
-The infamous "SIDE" Pony-tail that sticks straight up
On the the more HUMANE side of things you can find:
-Women with very short hair cuts that are well-groomed
-Healthy "doobie" wraps (wraps with the curls on top)
-Well put together donut-styled buns
-simple cornrows that are well kept and styled
You have a little bit of the good and the bad here

Just back from a London trip. As I got out of the airport, first lady I saw on the street had this gorgeous fro. I saw quite a few naturals mainly with puffs or fros. Or maybe I just noticed it more this time since I'm now natural. Loads and loads of weaves - the good, the bad and the ugly. I saw one lace front wig that made an impression on me. I just couldn't believe someone left their house looking like that!

Lots of messed up edges and traction alopecia friendly hair styles.

Not a large population of AA women in my area to begin with, but I see heads either weaved up or chewed up 97% of the time. :perplexed

Hardly any naturals at all.

im from florida...its alot of weave and braids here...chicks barely wear hair out..and if they do its a damaged, bone straight NL

nyc truly has it all healthy or unhealthy hair...i love to see natural and relaxed ladies with beautiful healthy hair that is shoulder length or longer. i hate to say it i see more jacked up heads than healthy ones, but with the natural movement and better quality products i forsee women striving for healthier hair. even living in primarliy dominnican area, i see more than my fair share of heat damage, thin edges, and damaged hair...likely from dominican blowouts.

A lot of young Black girls with horrible weaves; a few nice braided styles, an increasing number of natural heads. Most BW have relaxed hair, it is nice sometimes.

As for the white women, usually the hair is natural (or looks like it ) and just brushed, healthy. On the other hand, you also have dry bleached hair with 3cms of black roots, other girls with multicolored tracks and what not.

Arab girls: either natural and curly or blow dried to death.

You can see many different styles, and various states of health.
I'd say that African women wear more bad weaves while Caribbean women are more going natural. Overall, the situation is still bad to mediocre.

I've also been spotting weaves on non-black women quite a bit over the past 2-3 years. N. Africans tend to get whole head weaves (obvious tracks and all) while Europeans add hair for thickness and length (slight differences in shine & color are usually the giveaway there).
