Do I have to wet my hair before I put on the deep conditioner?

I don't. I deep condition on dry hair. I don't know how popular that is around these parts but dc'ing on dry hair works for me.

I deep condition first on dry hair
shampoo
and then use an instant conditioner and rinse.
My dry hair soaks up the moisture from the conditioner better if it is dry.

I recently started cowashing and that has really helped me see the moisture in my hair. Baggying is great but leaves my hair a little to oily - with cowashing I can see the results without feeling the oiliness

Thank you for this. I had no idea to go about this. This helps.

I do this as well. But if I am using CON after I DC, I dont follow up with another conditoner; just my leave-in.

i choose deep conditioning. but i also baggy and co-wash. the combination has made a tremendous improvement in my hair.

Before I would have said DCing because I know my hair would be a desert w/o it. However, I've started baggying and my hair is super duper moist, I lubs it

I am dealing with dry hair and I have no idea how to correct this issue. It seems like every time after I wash/cowash my hair I apply my leave ins and moisturizers and seal with oil and let it airdry and afterwards my hair is so dry and dull. I will admit that I have used heat about 4 times between last month and this month. What could I be doing wrong? What do you think is the best method to improve moisture levels in hair?

Thanks ladies

Hi Sweetcoco
i had the same exact problem. i started to deep condition 2x a week and started to baggy 4x a week. I was a little skeptical to baggy 7 days a week because i heard too much moisture can break off the hair. I think you should do this until you get some elasticity back in the hair then enough to maintain. I use Aveda DR to co wash and Kenra Mousturizing Mask. HTH

Thanks sweetie,

One would think that I have been able to find a solution to my dryness problems by now seeing how old this thread is...but I haven't. I actually have dryness problems when my hair is like 4+ weeks post or more. I need to start DCing more often but I do not have a hooded dryer and it does not seem like it helps any, maybe I need a better deep conditioner. I am currently using silk elements mega silk moisturizing treatment. I have used ORS replenishing pak and it's cool but i need something with a little bit more protein in it.

Any recommendations for a good inexpensive DC would be greatly appreciated.

I chose deep conditioning, but I think co-washing keeps your hair moisturized too.

My hair can't get enough moisture. I co-wash daily, put in a leave-in and put my hair back in a bun. Twice a week, I wash with poo and dc with a moisturizing conditioner. My hair is moisturized and thriving :yep:

Get a heatcap. Sally's sells them, and I swear by them. Too me it's gentler than the hooded dryer, AND a lot less bulkier.

Thanks sweetie,

I say DC, but in addition I also use apply conditioner to my hair every other day. wrapping my hair at night is a huge retainer of moisture for me. I cut my hair 9/30/07 and three months later not only has my hair grown but my ends look as fresh as the day that they were cut.

i wash with shampoo (usually sulfar 8) once a week, apply a cheap conditioner afterwards, then i pat with towel so some of the water is absorbed from my hair then finally apply a small amount of castor oil. i deep condition pretty infrequently. my hair is very, very soft. i used to suffer from extreme dryness when i first bc'd then i found castor oil.

for me,

it's been finding the RIGHT moisturizing deep conditioner and using it once or twice a week, the right daily moisturizer and reducing my (harsh) shampoo usage...i'll also say a shock of hardcore protein every once in a while seems to have helped, too.

baggying always helps me, too
but i'm not always consistent with that
i'm going to start to be, though
(i have done it 4 days in a row now lol)

My moisture level greatly improved onced I began a regimen that did not include shampoo. Also deep conditioning once a week helped.

yeah I have to say the DC and regular clarifying have brought moisture back! Before my hair was always really hard and brittle also finding the right DC was as important. now if only I could find the right leave in I'd be all set !:ohwell:

Every shampoo I pre-poo with warm oil. I also clarify every wash and deep condition under my hooded dryer. I can no longer say that I have dry hair. This was one of my downfalls before I reached midback. Now my hair retains moisture like never before.

How often do y'all clarify? Every week?

thanks guesswho

I was baggying my whole head every night using scurl but after a while my hair started shedding like crazy so I stopped all over baggying and now I baggy my ends over night using BB oil moisturizer and that helps but after I remove the baggy the following day in a couple hours my hair is back dry & dull again. I cowash about every 1-3 days. I guess I need to DC more often. How does DC help the hair? It has been about 3-4 weeks since I last clarified.

I think you should trying baggying with EVOO or castor oil...it sounds like the other products are a bit too harsh for your hair and are actually contributing to the dryness.
