I got good moisture results from Fermodyl 619 & Mizani H2O Intense Night Treatment. Deep conditioning wasn't enough for my dry ends and I don't have the discipline to baggy.

The Fermodyl & Mizani combo is the best quick fix IMO.

I deep condition for about 45 minutes as part of my weekly wash routine, and I moisturise about every two days. This really works wonders for my hair.

I totally agree with everyone who said deep condition! It has worked wonders for my hair. Deep conditoning everytime I wash has being the "secret" to maintaing moisture.

ITA with all thats been posted.

Whats worked for me:

-integrating some protein-either in shampoos or conditioners twice a week
-DC every wash
-limiting product-just moisturizer during the week and leave-in and serum on wash days
-limiting heat-only no heat or low heat styline
-keeping hair tied up at night via wrapping

I deep condition everytime I wash my hair. I like Sedal Anti Sponge deep moisturizing conditioner for a deep moisturizer and Lafier Proteinol for deep reconstrucitve conditioner. They are both Dominican conditioners. I put on a plastic conditioning cap and sit under the dryer for 20 minutes and rinse. Between that and using a daily oil moisturizing lotion, my hair stays hydrated and soft.

I also think washing my hair more frequently, 2x a week, has helped keep my hair more moisturized as well.

Basically, (every 1-2 days) I improve moisture level by:
Co-wash; a leave-in or spritz, e.g. infus.23, fermodyl; seal w/ oil, e.g. kemi, & lastly for that extra zing, BB's Oil Moisturizer; follow-up with a weekly deep condition, and cover hair with scarf at bedtime.
This regimen is sort of new for me, it works and it feels wonderful :yay:

I take flaxseed oil 1 tablespoon a day. When I talked to the helathfood store owners, I was advised that the actual oil is better than the capsules and better than the actual seeds.

You would need to take like 8 capsules to get the protein gained from 1 tablespoon worth. The benefit & cost just worked out better to get the oil.

Make sure that the oil you buy is in a refridgerated area and in a dark bottle. Otherwise it's no good.

Oh and for me , Deep Conditioning once a week is the best. I use Sheneeique Silk Reforming Complex under the dryer for 45 minutes.

What results have you gotten from the flaxseed oil?

I selected conditioner washes... they are very helpful, but u have to follow up with a moisturizer, and sealant, to maintain moisture from co-washing... also deep conditioning 1-2 times a week is a must. also I'm noticing using one product line (shampoo and conditioner )is a plus also because they are forumulated to work together.

I voted co-washing. Mostly because I have been on a consistent deep conditioning regimine for a 3 months now. Though it has done a lot for my hair it has not brought as much moisture as the 3-4 co-washes weekly regimine I have tried the last week. My hair feels totally different.

I think it is a combination of the two that will get the ultimate results. More importantly eliminating the harsh effects of shampoo has done wonders.

I'm not sure if this has already beemn mentioned.

I mix a 45% water& 55% glycerin in a spray bottle. I Mist my hair at nights and the moisture is amazing.

My moisture level improved when i switched to a lye relaxer. Before that my hair would not retain moisture no matter what I did.

For me: moisturize with moisturizing cream/lotion every day morning and night. That made my hair so much healthier! :)

Do you have suggestions for moisturizers? This remains my #1 challenge. I'm definitely going to switch to Lye for my next touch up and see what happens. My hair doesn't hold moisture no matter how much water I drink, great diet and exercise, money I waste trying moisturizers, deep conditioners promising the best, or CWing techniques. Nothing works! So, it must be the relaxer...

Make sure in addition to all of the recommendations already given that you are eating a healthy diet and taking any supplements you may need.

I know this was directed at FlowerHair, but I like Giovanni's leave-in as a moisturizer. That with my vatika oil makes my hair soft...

I have learned the inside out approach works best for me. Eating more veggies, my protein shake in the morning, 3 litres of water throughout the day, and my supplements. The dog benefits too because she goes for a 45-60 minute walk daily.

One thing I would stress is the need to wash your hair - water is moisture. I'm didn't see how often you do, but maybe at least once or twice a week. Deep conditioning is a must as already stated.

I know this is budget dependent, but quality products can yield quality results as well. Perhaps you can try the Nexxus, Aveda, or Phyto, or a different product - check out those ingredients. Jason is an excellent shampoo/conditioner line with excellent ingredients and no sulfates, and, in this area, is only $5 per bottle. I don't think you need a lot of products, I think you just need good ones that work for your hair.

In addition to all of these posts here, I can't seem to stress it enough:

Please clarify on a regular basis!!!!

Some of yall are using 2 and 3 products a day in addition to topical growth aides and not to mention about 4 or 5 products on wash day filled with cones, oils, etc. Those products DO buildup over time and will block moisture from penetrating to your strands and in order for your strands to get adequate moisture to penetrate you MUST get that gunk off.

I just felt the need to say that, because so many people keep trying product after product instead of giving your strands a good cleanse and going from there. And NO I am not talking about an ACV rinse (because those do NOT clarify) or baking soda. I am talking about a shampoo that is specifically made for clarifying. Please ladies, if you are trying EVERYTHING and NOTHING is working, it isn't the products it may be time for a deep clarifying session.

*I am sitting at my computer just laughing at this chick....

But this is good advice though....I remember back in the day I had not a clue about clarifying....

I do clarify once a week or once every two weeks. I think you've made a terrific point, especially for fine-haired gals. We MUST clarify because unlike every other hair type, we are prone to build up. So I've went from CON clarifying to Aveda Detoxifyer Shampoo which is also great for those ladies who are doing a lot of swimming. But, I have also decided to try a Lye relaxer in two weeks when I relax.

NOTE: I decided to relax at 12 weeks rather than my normal 14 because I have massive NG that I'm struggling to tame. Thanks, BT and Naturallady!

This is one of the best lessons I have learned from this board. Now that I do clarify, I can see why, in the old days, why my hair would feel the way it did. I have moved up to washing every other day now. I usually do two cw's in a row and then a shampoo wash. I usually clarify every other poo wash. My hair is responding very well to this treatment. My ends are looking better, too, thank goodness.

How do you clarify? Can you explain me how you do it and what you use please?

I choose other. I believe you should start from the inside out. So the best way to improve moisture levels is to drink more water and take flaxseed oil.

The other stuff is good...but to me that is just treating the symptoms and not the problem. Also, make sure your relaxer isnt the culprit making your hair dry and brittle.

I think she means using a clarifying shampoo.

Lately hasn't been staying as moisturized as it usually does and I'm thinking why is it getting so dry. Then I'm like oh I havent clarified in a while. Duh! lol

Some one probabley said this already but it looks like your using too many cones. Cones block moisture so I try to keep my cone product uses down to one product, none if I can help it.

Baggying my entire head works for me. When I was doing frequently co-washes that helped also. Drinking lots of water and taking flaxseed oil helps as well.

I was going to say the same thing. I baggy my head just by wearing a shower cap at night, but my hair is lightly damp not wet (sometimes I just baggy dry) and that keeps my hair moisturized all day. But most importantly, you need WATER! HYDRATED YOURSELF and your HAIR WILL THANK YOU! :) Also start taking an essential fatty acid supplement.

What moisturizing products are you using? You need to look at the ingredients to see if they are TRUE water-based moisturizers that have no petroleum, mineral or lanolin as main ingredients.

I hope this helps. :)
