What Has Contributed To Your Hair Growth...

I was told by my stylist that spacing out touch ups is what's contributing to my breakage. I used to go 3-4 mos. Now every two mos. How long do most of you wait?

[/ QUOTE ]

My former hair stylists used to tell me the same thing. They were wrong. Now I wait 10-12 weeks. The longer the better for my hair.

I usually wait 8 weeks but this time I waited 10 weeks.

hi ladies:
i would have to attribute my growth to-
*protecting my hair while i sleep or slum around with a silk scarf/pillow case.
*vitamins-silica, msm, biotin, & b-complex
*following shamboosie's 24-month plan-conditioning lye relaxer, retouch on time, quality products, & trim as needed
*a cooperative beautician-she really knows how to "dust" and is not ms. pacman and she shares info, products, and follows my suggestions.
*this one is too weird, but here goes, a 8-month trip to denver, co gave a me a growth spurt like out of this world. it may have been the dry climate. go figure

Going napptural, moisture, vitamins, less manipulation, exercising, and drinking lots of water have made a major difference in my hair.

Same here...always waited even before I joined the hair boards.
Hairstylists used to have me going to them every 4-5 weeks for relaxers! My hair was constantly breaking off! When I compare how much I relax now...4 times a year vs. 10-12 times a year! It's a wonder I even had any hair on my head at all!

Hair's like money. It's not what you make. It's what you keep...

Hey I like that adrienne! So So true!

Ladylibra_30 what is shamboosie's 24-month plan?
huh.gif

NO Curling Irons, Moisturizers, Hair Vitamins, drinking plenty of water, trimming and roller sets, and patience!!

hi cabo

,
the 24-month plan is a plan that you follow for 2 years to obtain 10-12 inches (in addition to your current length) of growth (maybe more, according to your personal rate of growth) using only nexxus products. the author highly recommends these products...he also likes dudleys products. i purchased his book (beautiful black hair-real solutions to real problems) and have been hooked every since...it is my hair bible (so to speak...did'nt mean to take you to church

i purchased this book through the black expressions book club for $1.00 (it's hard-cover)

Stormy, I have never had my hair braided and I am thinking about getting corn rows, and then a braid out. How long should I leave the corn rows in my hair??

When I dampen my hair with a little water and/or leave in conditioner before braiding I wear them for 2-3 hours then take them down. For dry hair I just braid it over night and take them down in the morning.

For you all that do frequent condition washes, how do you prevent breakage when combing wet hair, I've been asking this all week, I lose so much hair when its wet even though I use a wide tooth comb and I'm very gentle. I'm thinking of stoppin CO washes altogether...

[/ QUOTE ]

What type of conditioner are you using? Do you need to clarify? Are you using distilled water? Do you wash in the shower with your hair back? I really don't know what the problem could be without more detail. I condition wash or rinse daily and it has helped me and I have very little breakage. In fact it allayed my breakage. Please tell us more.

I currently rotate between Keracare humecto, Kerastase Masquintense and Joico Kpak (protein). I condition wash in the shower and I don't lose any hair there. I don't use distilled water, I haven't been able to find it yet. I then apply Headress, keracare essential oils and Loreal unfrizz serum, then try to detangle gently with a wide tooth comb, then roller set. I don't have as much breakage as before, but its still enough to scare me. I don't know if I should continue this way or go back to my regular weekly washes only. Any advice?

I would say eating healthy foods, water, keeping my hair ends moisturized, protein treatments to prevent loosing the length I've gained to brekage, no direct heat, vitamins, sleeping with a satin scarf, paying close attention to how my hair responds to different products and of course this board!

Sithembile,Your regimen sounds good, so I don't know what the problem could be. I'm natural, when I had this problem I found it was the hard water I was using. I know you're unable to find distilled water so that is not an option for you. Maybe you could go back to your regular weekly washes until you're able to find the distilled water. Also maybe you can wash and condtion the the hair in sections. Some of the ladies braid each section and wash one at a time then rebraid loosely. Then they condition and rinse the same way, and comb section by section. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I would just say leaving it alone + vitamins

Hello Mufasa

Great minds think alike

. I'd also like to add eating plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein, and loading up on the water. Oh, and spacing out touch ups, and leaving the scissors and combs alone. Oh one more thing, moisturizing the heck out of the ends and condition rinses/washes.

Say there Brownieeee!

I can only guess about the hair! I would also like to add that the conditioner washes help too (I do it when my hair is out of the braids) - I also got one of those shower filters - I dunno know - but it seems as though it leaves my natural hair in *much* better condition than washing it in soft water ...

Especially since I am trying to grow natural hair, I try to comb my hair only when there is conditioner or some type of moisturizer on it. Combing wet hair with some kind of moisturizer is key.

weaves plain and simple. The hair stays covered and protected from heat and sun damage, plus you dont have to get a relaxer (perm) if you dont want to. I started putting my hair in weaves in 2000 and I've worn them constantly until now. my hair is strong, healthy and is shoulder length in the back, chin length in the front. While I was wearing weaves I didnt moisturize my hair like I was supposed to but for some reason my hair didnt seem to mind. the only thing I did every now and then was spray my scalp with oil sheen to alleviate the itching. My hair grows faster when I do nothing to it at all.

For me it has been moisturizing more (deep conditioning, daily rinsing, and conditioner washes), and trimming myself!

The only thing that adds a lot length to my hair is conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. It's like the more I condition, the more my hair appreciates it.

All the tips are great, but how do you go about using the S Curl on relaxed hair? I'm clueless. I'm tryingto find a good protective style to try (like a weave-enhanced bun).

I use S-curl along with mango butter for my ends. My hair is super soft and I don't have alot of breakage. Sometimes I even use distilled water with the S-curl and mango butter. When it dries my ends are even better. Hopes this helps.

What has contributed to my hair growth is conditioner washes. Also, extended time between relaxing my hair. The longest I have ever went was 11 weeks. I'm going to try for 12 weeks this time.

I attribute my hair growth to getting my hair relaxed before breakage starts and d/t protecting my hair ends. I'm presently trying to learn how to care for my new growth in order to decrease the number of retouches per year.

The contributors to my hair growth are:

*Eating right (vegetables, fruits, etc...)
*Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis
*Taking my vitamin/mineral supplements everyday
*Using products without SLS/SLES or unnecesary ingredients
*Using organic/natural products in my hair
*Washing and deep-conditioning my hair on a regular basis
*SCALP MASSAGES
*Moisturizing leave-in treatments
*Using in-direct heat on my hair (Hood dryer)

My hair does not like to be combed when wet AT ALL!!! And I just found this out, today I washed and I didn't comb my hair until my hair was 98% dry! This was fine I didn't have a problem detangling like I thought or anything. Read my post HERE!

moisture
vitamins
drinking more water
weaves

all of these contribute, but I think weaving it and leaving it alone is the key factor. my hair seems to thrive on being left alone and is more moisturized being weaved, it's not dry at all
