Type 4 hair has fewer cuticle layers than any other hair type, which means that it has less natural protection from the damage you inflict by combing, brushing, curling, blow-drying and straightening it.
Hmm... no wonder I've seen such great hair results from limiting the use of my comb and finger-stylilng. :)

In its natural states, sometimes Type 4 hair doesn't grow very long because every time you comb it, it breaks.
Well, we know by the long-haired, natural type 4 ladies here that this isn't true...

this may not be true for everyone, but may answer why most of us can stretch whille others can not. You really have to keep that NG under control and well moisturized to keep it from breaking while combing. According to the hair types my NG is now comming in as 3c since taking MSM, EPO, Flaxseed Oil, and Biotin, and I am normally a 4a. Thanks for posting this it made things more clearer being able to see the hair types instead of just reading what it should look like. :cool:

just what i thought:

4a in the crown and edges
3c everywhere else

the 4a in my hair is the thickest, and blackest. looks really cute, except it's coarse as a ****.
