Vaseline is the ultimate!!!!!

Hmmm. I was always under the impression that Vaseline attracts dirt to the hair like a magnet; And not only would it be gummy but dirty. :perplexed

The only way I can see that happening, is if you literally coat your hair with it. I use it on myself and my 3 DDs, the youngest is 1, and I have not seen any lint or dirt in my or their hair.

Does anyone have a problem with acne after using the vaseline?

In 11th grade in high school I was having skin issues so the doctor told me to grease down from head to toe with vaseline face and everything. Well I must say my skin was bomb.com/theISH for prom that year :lick:

Hmmm....that depends I suppose.

If Im doing the entire head at once since my hair is so thick, I have to use 2 big globs, sorta quarter sized ones and spread it all over. If Im doing a braid or twist out I use just a small amount, say a pea sized amount on each braid/twist. Then I dont use anymore for a few days or so. Theres really no need to go hard on Vaseline b/c you dont need it EVERY day, ya know?

Are you applying to the ends of your braid/twist or the entire length of your braid/twist?

Ladies who use Vaseline, are you also able to use regular petroleum hair products? The ingredients sort of scare me but I am intrigued...

Active Ingredients: Petrolatum. Other Ingredients: Water, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Myreth-3 Myristate, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Microcrystalline Wax, Tocopheryl Acetate Ceteareth-20, Carbomer, Tea, Ethylene Brassylate, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

I use other products with vaseline too like Liv (creme hairdressing and conditioner) for example. I think petroleum is the 2nd ingredient. I use this when I twist my hair. If vaseline is making your hair dirty, you might be using too much.

Okay, I'm gonna try this for my next braid-out. Ladies who already do it, would you put vaseline on top of soaking wet hair saturated with conditioner?

I've found its easiest to braid my hair up for a braid-out when saturated with conditioner and I'd love it if some good old school vaseline could give it that extra oomph when it dries.

I dont dare put a thing on my scalp because of my oily skin but as a sealant for just my hair, I can totally see it working well.

I hope I have good news to report after my next braid-out!

I tried this 2 days ago. My hair is straight and I am in love. No more oils for me. My hair is super soft and non greasy. I put in on the length when it was wet. I never tried it that way before and I was very pleased.
Can you break down your process start to finish? It didn't weigh your pressed hair down?

Ok yall got me...I just jumped on the vaseline bangwagon..I luv vaseline for my skin in the winter..so it makes sense to try it on my winter hair as well..I used it for the 1st time last night and I like it...my hair isn't overly greasy cause Lord knows I'm heavy handed..I may switch out the olive oil until the spring and keep the vaseline for the winter...

Kinda OT rambling a little: Tonight I tried vaseline by desperation and love it (so far). I had my hair out all day while at a work function. I was then headed to a college basketball game tonight straight after work when the weather turned icky with rain and fog, etc so I decide to bun my hair. I looked in my hair bag and realized I picked up my moisturizer but forgot my oil for sealing. I had some dollar store brand vaseline with me and used that and it made my hair nice and soft. I mainly used it on the ends. I must test this out a few more times before being completely sold.

I washed my hair last night and I put my hair in braids for a braid out today. I put on lots and lots of Vaseline and once it dries I'll post pics. My hair is still damp, but it doesnt feel greasy at all, just moisturized.

I read this earlier this week and jumped on the bandwagon and moisturized and sealed with SuperGro grease which has the first ingredient of PJ and my half underneath my halfwig is so super soft and moisturized. I guess all my oils will do in my DC. Thanks lady.

so i got hypnotized by this thread an decided to freshed up my flat iron job by warming up a lil bit of my cocoa butter pj vaseline between my palms and distributing evenly throughout my hair, then re ironing it in medium size chunks. my hair feels so soft and protected. i never thought i would try this, let alone actually like the results!

I also became curious about this, especially with all of the positive responses. So last night, I added a petrolatum based product to a 4 day old braidout, then rebraided it. Looking forward to seeing how it looks.
BTW, does anyone know if petrolatum based products works the same as plain petrolatum.
The product I used is called BB SuperGro Hair Conditioner, with Vitamin E, sage and sulfur. It also has ceramides, as well as mineral oil. I had this unused bottle from about 3 years ago.

Ingredients
Petrolatum , Mineral Oil , Coconut Oil , Sesame Oil , Hydrolyzed Collagen , Maleated Soybean Oil , Vitamin E , Vitamin D , Vitamin A , Wheat Germ , Sage , Sulfur , D&C Green #6 , D&C Yellow #11 , Fragrance

So its the morning after and my hair feels even BETTER now. I think its because it got a chance to soak in a little more. Thank you OP for this thread! It came around just in time, because Vaseline is just what my hair needs to face the cold, German winter im bout to fly into.

My hair feels "coated" and protected without feeling greasy. It's a good thing./martha stewart voice

i was given some cantu shea butter. it's ingredients list is basically petroleum, shea butter, and fragrance. i used it on my niece's hair in 2 ponytail twists and it worked wonderfully. her ponytail twistout looked so adorable, was shiny, and soft.
