Updated ADOPT-A-NEWBIE Challenge

Is it too late to be adopted? I'm totally new to LHCF. I do not know my hair type. I asked my stylist and he had never heard of the different types. Although I have read it everywhere. He only told me that my hair is fine. I have pics on my camera phone, but I don't know how to upload them to this site. I have a digital camera too, but I don't use it much. I'm not technical savvy. I was natural for 1 1/2 years and just permed again in January 2007. My last relaxer was 3/17/07. I am struggling with wether to relax again or not. I just did braids, but my hair itched so bad and I think I have some loss at the edge in front. So, no braids or wigs for me. My hair is not long enough to put into a ponytail so I'm unsure about protective styles. I am interested in healthy hair with less heat. I want growth BSL. If someone helps me with posting the pics then maybe I can get some advice. My roots are very wavy. I want to thicken up my hair. It is so thin in texture, but it always has been.

For the Big Sisters

Hair Type: Mostly 4a/3c in the back

Relaxed / Natural: Natural

Anything you feel you are great at: Hair health not just style, braiding, baggie, protectives styles, and being consistent.

Ground rules you feel strongly about: I love NATURAL hair - the thicker, the bigger, the better!

Sometimes us NATURAL gals need extra love because the hair will not hang/sway like our relaxed sistas!

Being consistent really pays off - don't waste your money on the latest "fad" products if you are not willing to commit the time for its day-to-day care.

Are we supposed to say what our goals are during this 3 month period?

Im just curious how everyone else is supposed to see what progress weve made now that we have the Big Sister guidance....

I think a real challenge would be if big sis critique our hair and regimen and set the goal for us .

@ Wonderstar yes thats definitely the challenge proposed for me. My Big Sis scratched everything I used and gave me a list of school supplies that are required for her reform school :)

I was just wondering how will board members be able to see the change/ impact if we dont share the start and the finish...am I making sense to anyone? lol

I'd like to adopt a newbie if it's not too late :)

For the Big Sisters

Hair Type: 4a/b

Relaxed / Natural: Texlaxed

Anything you feel you are great at: Flatironing, protective styling, braids, weaves, self-relaxing, getting hair to grow past the shoulders, coming up with ideas to get past your hair problems.

Ground rules you feel strongly about: I'm pretty open regarding rules. They will be based on the goals that the newbie has.

I want a Big Sis *whining* lol :look:

I'm natural and struggling with the comb and brush and maintaining moisture.

ETA. I think this is a wonderful idea and sweet.

Just a reminder...

As of yesterday we didnt have enough Big Sisters for the Newbies so we double and triple teamed if the Big Sisters were willing!

The cut off was Saturday for Newbies and everyone after that point was wait listed. If we can get more big sisters we may be able to open up the sign up. But if not we may need to continue to wait list...

Look for some more info from Sugarose at some point today!

We should have before and afters. I'm having my lil sis's take progress pictues, I'm sure most big sister's are doing the same. We can post them at the end of the challenge. 3 months is enough time to see improvement. :yep:

Anything you feel you are great at: Products (I research the moisture/protein balance thing heavily), moisturizing/deep conditioning, flat iron proficiency, *safe* heat practices (if you must :look: ), split end prevention...can think of more later.

Ground rules you feel strongly about: Depends on who I'm matched up with. I'm pretty pragmatic that way.

Um, I just found this thread, and I don't know if I'm worthy of being a big sister to a newbie, but I'll gladly do so for anyone interested. My PM box is open. :)

I LOVE my Big Sis Sugarose. She is so patient and easy to talk to. She immediately assessed my problem areas and gave me guidelines, product recommendations and has me on a KISS regimen. We are working on babying my ends since my main concern is breakage and not being able to retain length. It's only been a few days, but I already see and feel improvement.

Thanks to all who put this challenge together. This is the best thing to happen to my hair!

My little Sisters are cuties!
Kels already has a very detailed fotki and is my kind of girl and Jayjay is wonderful and sweet and has a pretty good regimen for a newbie, actually both do:)
Both already know the basics in and out.

Please see page one for today's Update!

Well I have 2 lil sisters who are kimistry and growinstrong and I luv both of them!! :yep:
We are working on getting kimistry's hair to ultimate health and then we will concentrate on getting her length.
Growinstrong and I are working on getting her back to a full BSL.
Both of of my sis's are so nice and helping them has been lots of fun. I can tell already we will see great progress in the 3 months of this challenge. ;)

Great updates ladies. I just love this whole tread.

My little sister (Seymone) is also sooo on top of her A-game. She pretty does everything that is healthy for her hair. She is consistent and easy to talk to. I keep telling her she does not me. lol She is on top of it. She bounces things off of me and we will work on dryness and it looks like she is already getting her shedding under control. She is a Jewell.

I enjoy reading all your updates. I am happy to see things are coming along well and I will look forward to reading all the updates and seeing the reveals!
