:blush:Hey, I just had a thought: What if everyone called Sally's headquarters and asked when the UPA Clip would be available because we heard that it was coming to Sallys?!?! Do you think that would work? If Sallys heard a whole bunch of people calling about the product, maybe they will hold up their end of the bargain with Michelle Hall! Give me your thoughts please?

Okay, I PMed Michelle Hall and she also believes this is a perfect idea!! Spread the word to call Sally's headquarters and flood them with calls/emails asking when the UPA Clip will be available because we heard that Sally's will be carrying it!!

I sent my e-mail, and I saved the #, so I can call again during their normal business hours. :ohwell:

Great idea!

Okay, so here's my email that I sent just now:

"Hi, it has come to my attention that UPA Clips were now available at Sally Beauty Supply. I was so happy to hear that, I went to 3 different Sallys looking for them and the women I spoke to said they'd never heard of them. I can only assume that maybe they are not at all of the stores as of yet. Could you please let me know which stores in the Pennsylvania area carry UPA Clips or when they will become available to all the stores in the Philadelphia area. Thank you for your time."

PLEASE DO NOT COPY THIS EMAIL AND SEND IT TO SALLY'S- WRITE AN ORIGINAL LETTER. We want them to know that we are different people asking. :spinning:

Okay, so I gave a fake name... but when I call on Monday, I will give my real one:grin: Sally's thinks they're smart! You can't out slick an oil can (like the old-school folks say) I have a few different email accounts w/ diff names, so I will email them in the next few days with inquiries too:drunk:

I thought that the UPA Clip WAS NOT doing business with Sally's, why are you saying different...... I'm confused.:perplexed

The idea is to email/call them saying that we heard that they are available or that they are coming to Sally's. If enough people contact them regarding the UPA Clips, they may want to do business with her because there's an overwhelming amount of people who are interested in buying them.

Why say that when it's not true? Didn't the UPA Clip lady say that Sally's decided against it?

That's the whole point. We act like we think it's there and when they tell us they don't we act surprised and dissatisfied. Get it?

no I don't. I guess you guys wouldn't want Sally's being dishonest about a product to you, so why lie to them about a product THEY AREN'T carrying?

She wants to do business with them, but they are the ones who backed out. We are showing Sally's that there are people who'd like to buy it and if it was at Sally's, we'd buy it from them. It's showing interest, that's all.

Stores are dishonest everyday, including Sallys. To get them to start carrying it, that's why. I believe in her product, shame on me for trying to make Sally's some money- because I know it will sell.

I realize that stores, companies, etc. lie, but continuing it makes it no better.
I could see if they carried the product at one point and then decided to take it off the shelf and people write wanting them to bring it back. But this one never made it there.

I understand where you're coming from. BUT I think that if her ponytails were given a chance there, they'd do well. If we, the customer, can persude them to start selling the ponytails by showing interest in wanting to purchase, what's the harm in it? That's no different than a very good sale, but the store only puts out 4 items and keeps the rest in the back just to get the shopper in the store to buy other stuff.

didn't they decide against it AFTER she had spent hard earned money on a trip to China to work out all the manufacturing kinks? Thats messed up in my book...I just sent my e-mail from 1 of my email accounts and I will send one from work on Monday, as well as call. I hope this helps her! :yep:

I totally agree with you. They had her jumping through firey hoops to get manufacturing just to pull out at the last second? That's horrible, so no, I don't mind lying to Sally's.

Great idea. Like a reverse boycott.

Big Business is always out to get us, I don't see the problem with manipulating Big Business. Especially in order to help a BLACK owned business make a profit that should rightly be hers. All we are doing is showing interest in a product that was supposed to be at Sally's.

:amen::thankyou: EXACTLY!! That's what I'm saying. It's no different than what they do to us. They post a big a$$ 50% off sign with a lil a$$ "up to" sign before it. They mark up prices and then take money off, goodness knows what else they do to mislead us. Not only that, but we're kinda doing Sally's a backward favor because they will make money on this. It's like we're tricking them into making money.

Did that thread just disappear? I was just reading it and the next thing I knew I got a message saying I don't have permission to access?

I was a store manager for Sally Beauty Supply for 5 years. I will be the first one to tell you that flooded customer service to stock a product will not work. Sally's has over 2000 stores worldwide with more opening everyday. The merchandising and marketing on poducts in sallys' is very store oriented meaning that their store are stock according to the demographics of the people in the surrounding neighborhoods. Basically, each store is run independently of one another. So just because one store might carry an item a store 5 miles away might not because of demographics. Stores with less than a 12-16ft. ethnic section will NOT carry ethnic unkown or unpopular products because it is not loss to the company/store. Only stores in high ethnic areas (i.e. highly populated areas of black people) will carry the most products for black people and even then it is EXTREMELY difficult to get small business owners to get their products into Sallys. A little known fact is that Sally's is owned by Alberto-Culver who makes Tresemee, VO5 etc... AND most of sally's products are private label products. While it is not impossible for small business to get products into sally's it is very hard and sally's would rather manufacture the items themselves to keep the cost as low as possible for its customers.

I understand that individual Sally's stores get to pick which merchandise to carry. Doesn't that mean then that there is an overhead person/group that decides the pool of products that can possibly be carried? You can't go to a random Sally's store and ask them to order in any product for you, it has to come from the Sally's stock warehouse. Who decides what merchandise is bought and put in the warehouses? wouldn't that be the person to target?
