I have been hella curious to find out if people here have tried her leave in recipe and the results. In a few other threads people have reported it working well. Can you tell us exactly what you think it does? On her update video, Kim says that her ends feel smooth because the cuticle is closed. How are y'all ends feeling?

Also if you modified the recipe, what did you use. i'm thinking about using giovani direct leave in, cause it's what I have around the house.

I used her exact recipe and i like it. It does smooth the hair and moisturizes it. Using knot today and sealing with an oil works exactly the same for me.

The first time I tried it,I used Cantu Shea Butter because I had no more knot today...

I used it for a braid out...
My ends felt great, my curls were nice, boingy and shiny...my hair retained the moisture very well...

I like the fact that its technically a one step product, you dont have to seal it with an oil...

I followed the recipe exactly the first time and it prevented my 4a/3c hair from forming ssks. The 2nd & 3rd times I did not measure and also added coconut oil and it worked just as well. IMHO the castor oil is key and perhaps the Aloe (in smoothing the hair shaft) bc jojoba alone does not sufficiently moisturize my hair, and also my hair hates Knot Today by itself. Next time I'll eliminate the jojoba altogether and use coconut oil instead. And as I'm running out of KT, I'll happily sub something else.

I do not use her mix to the T. I substitute the castor oil for crisco oil and I use my Yes to Tomatoes conditioner in place of the Knot Today (I have a bottle.. but my hair does not like this at all).

I personally feel that the aloe vera juice is the magic in the mix.

My hair is moisturized for hours and my ends are not thirsty and wiry looking/feeling. My ends actually curl (think little coils) and I have not had any ssk since using the moisturizer

I don't have any Knot today. They don't sell it here. But I do have some HE LTR. I don't know if that's ok. That's the only creamy based thing I have laying around.

LOVE IT!!! I'm 3c/4a and my ssk have been thwarted. It really is the aloe vera...my hair used to stick up like trees at the ends of my twists and no more! The aloe vera makes the cuticle close and it lays flat and curls. :)

I tried it a few times and do find that it works to make the hair immeidately smoother. I think the Aloe Vera juice and castor oil are the key ingredients. I use aloe vera juice, castor oil, grapeseed oil and various conditioners/leave-ins.

I first tried it with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner and it worked great. I twisted my hair for the night, wore a pony puff to work the next day and my hair was moisturized all day - my loose hair. I then used Aussie Moist conditioner as the base and that also worked great. I wore my loose hair out and then twisted it at night. I was able to use the Aussie Moist mix once over the course of 2 days, without having to add more. That was on my twisted hair, not loose hair. My ends have been looking/feeling great. I have not noticed anywhere near as many single strand knots....hardly any at all since around 9/22 when I started using the mix.

I am currently using Hawaiian Silky as a base just to see if it works, and it does although it's not anywhere near as creamy. My hair is in a puff right now and feels moisturized. My hair has been loose all day. I will twist it tonight though after spritzing with water and adding more of my leave-in mix. I plan to try Herbal Essences Totally Twisted conditioner for my next mix.

I have fine 4A hair and it work nicely. My hair was smooth but it was limp and lifeless, so I guess the mix was a bit too heavy/ greasy 4 me...I think it was the castor oil... I should have remebered 4rm past experience that it was too much for my hair and I only use it on my ends now.

BUT it introduced me too Aloe Juice and my hair has been in love every since! I spray that on my hair with a bit of Coconut oil an my hair has been my best friend lately :)

The aloe, havin a pH of 4-5 is what seals the cuticle, see Kimmaytube's pH and hair vid: YouTube - Structure of Hair Part 4 - Using pH Balance Properly for Hair-Care and YouTube - The Structure of Hair Part 2 - pH Balance Basics along with the rest of the vids in the series. The castor oil and jojoba is for the sealing action, the moisture is from the aloe and the creamy base. Kt is water based. Really it doesn't matter what creamy leave in you use, it's about being sure to add the aloe having citric acid as the preservative..... check out her vid, I believe that she specifically says that:YouTube - kimmaytube's Channel

I'm working on my second batch of Kimmaytube leave-in. The first batch left my hair so soft, shiny , and feeling incredible. I could really feel the oils after it dried, but my hair absorbed most of it. I used Alba Botanica (my favorite leave-in ) as a substitute for the Knot Today. I had positive results for days. Now I know how moisturized ph balanced hair is supposed to feel..

Whoa? all positive results! I used to add aloe juice to my spritz but I guess since it wasn't measured, there wasn't really that much smoothing. I will get the whole leaf gel instead of the juice STAT! I also will not be using jojoba cause it was nothing special by itself and hella expensive.

It has made my hair keep moisture.I normally would wash my hair and on 2nd day it would be dry as a straw now my hair will hold for at least 3-4 days without adding any leave in or anything.I wish I could afford to use knot today soley for my leave in but I reserve it for the concoction..I only wonder what whole leaf will do since I accidently got inner leaf aloe vera

Really, really good leave in. Thank you Kimmaytube. I tried kimmaytube leave in with the giovanni leave in conditioner and it worked reaaly well. The first week I tried it on my daughter's 4b natural hair and it worked well. The second week, I decided to try just the giovanni leave in I immedatley noticed that her hair didn't look as moisturize and it was frizzy. The third week I went back to using Kimmaytube leave in recipe and the results were just as the first week. I believe it will be a keeper for her.

Love it! Been using it for a month now and my hair stays moisturized for days. I substituted.
Instead of using two teaspoons of Jojoba and castor oil i've been using EVOO and Coconut oil since jojoba and castor is not in my really small college town. I love it so much I make sure all my leave ins are PH balanced.

P.S She uses 100% Whole leaf Juice, not gel. I made the mistake of buying the gel and it did NOT work out as well as I thought lol

Glad you posted this. I have Giovanni's leave in collecting dust. Using it alone made my hair hard and dry. Well this is good then. I'll use this in place of the knot today.

try cutting the oil in half, or at least the castor oil....i have fine hair too, and when i did this on accident it turned out to be my best batch yet.

i have been using this since july and i love it. like others have said, i have used other leave-ins and different oils and still have great results. i too realized it is mostly the AV juice that makes the difference. i have used GDLI and alaffia beautiful curls leave-in, since they were cheaper than KCKT and i still wanted an all-natural base. i will try my TJ nourish spa at some point, and maybe this yes to tomatoes conditioner. as far as oils, i usually use cold-pressed castor oil and jojoba, but i am out of jojoba oil right now so i substitute it with one of the billions of other oils i have. right now my mix is alaffia, AV juice, castor oil and sweet almond oil. i also have avocado oil, grapeseed oil, palm oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, palm kernel oil, and of course EVOO.

IMO, it is definitely a keeper leave-in. i've seen a couple of people say that it's not really that innovative, and a lot of conditioners/leave-ins have AV juice in them, and anything pH balanced will work :blah: but she struck gold when she made a youtube video introducing this concept to her viewers/subscribers.

Use it and love it. I use her recipe. I once substituted Giovanni Leave In for the Knot Today, but it did not have the same "smoothing" effect on my ends.

This has really helped make my transition manageable....so far :)

I have a question...

Would the aloe vera juice function in a protein-like fashion and cause an overload/dryness? This is always my primary concern when using aloe vera based products.

Question: For those of you in colder climates, will you still be using this leave-in? If not, what will you be substituting to make it work in your favor?

I guess I am the only naysayer...I used it while twisting my and they looked old (bushy) a lot sooner. However, my hair was very soft and moisturized. Maybe it has something to do with the porosity of my hair. I actually like the Bear Fruit Hair Cherry Bark Banana Cream Leave-in Moisturizer (whoa, that's a mouthful), it was $7 and I did not have to add anything and it's ph balanced.

Here are the ingredients:
Banana
BTMS (Behentrimonium Methosulfate)
Cetearyl
Clove
Hibiscus
Horsetail
Palm Fruit Kernel Oil
Preservative
Purified Water
Wild Cherry Bark

I thought my hair hated aloe because my hair would react in a hard way by getting stiff. I guess I'm wrong.

The aloe vera juice is key for my hair. I didn't like the castor oil addition so I used coconut or jojoba. I really like it.:yep: Now I have something to do with all that nasty new formula Giovanni direct. Surprisingly even though it has aloe in it and I added the juice I didn't get hard stiff hair.

Tried it in Elucence MB and my hair was soft and airy afterwards.

WL aloe vera juice is the bizness! Just like that old lady in that hot sauce radio ad said...I put that [bleep] in everything!

So I just went and bought Jojoba oil and the aloe vera juice today. Aloe always seems to make my hair feel hard. So I'm kinda skeptical. Giovanni direct made my hair feel really hard, so I'm gonna add it to this mixture in place of knot today and see what happens. I think I'll make it tomorrow.

I will still use it, the only thing that i will do different is seal with something a bit heavier but i will use this underneath.

I made it with aloe juice and gel and I did not notice a difference. I really like this leave in. I have skipped a day moisturizing and my hair was still soft and moisturized. My hair is definitely smoother with less frizz. I have not used knot today. I balked when I saw the price. Maybe I will try it when I use up some of the conditioners I already have. I used giovanni direct leave in and a lanza leave in -I dont remember the name right at the moment. I used jbco and whgo. I think used rice bran in my last batch.

I've tried it too but can't find the right combination conditioner to use yet. Like I tried the Knot today, cantu, the herbal essence, the kbb hair milk, the garnier stuff, the aussie moist and so on but my hair feels like straw with it. Maybe I'm having a reaction to something else like over protein or the weather changing drastically. I will try it again in the spring but I hope she bottles it and sells it, I would love to try one that I don't have to mix, getting costly for me.

Oh and for some odd reason mine doesn't last longer than a week in the fridge before it spoils. Guess I'm not good at the mixing game, lol

I thought she said to use it within 3 days?
