...when do you do your detangling? After having a nightmare detangling session last night trying to dislodge matted shed hair from my nape, I am seriously considering washing my hair in braids to prevent tangling. But my question for you ladies who wash like this is, when do you comb out your hair? Do you undo a braid at a time and comb under the shower stream or on damp hair full of conditioner? Since I don't comb in between shampoos, I'm kinda wondering what the best way would be to get rid of the shed hair. Thanks in advance, ladies. ;)

Hey Priestess:wave:
I wash my hair in 6 braids following the crown of glory method for washing relaxed hair, and then detangle under the shower with conditioner after I dc.I also picked up a tip from loveya4eva and bought a pack of those little girl barettes from the bss for a $1 and secure then end of the braids w/ them.Works like a charm:D

Hi, Priestess!! Im lazy, and only wash in 2 braids. But it still helps me with the tangling, though. I unbraid in the shower after my hair's been conditioned, and proceed to detangle. It works like a charm.:)

Awww, thanks Atrinibeauty and Shunta.

Atrinibeauty, you're right, Loveya4ever was on point about using those kiddie barrettes. The couple times I washed a la Crown & Glory, those barrettes really worked. :yep:

I chose other. I detangle my hair before washing and then braid it. When I wash it, I my hair braided and secured with a barette. When I finally take the braids down, my hair is still tangle free ;) So I just brush it back into a bun. I have tried taking the braids down one by one under the shower but find that it is much simpler to detangle before hand. HTH :)

i braid/twist in 4's and after cowing i detangle under the direct spray - taking each twist/braid down and detangle, redo and on to the next one. btw i am natural. toodlez!

I make 10 braids, 4 at the front and 6 at the back. I shampoo with them in, rinse, undo them and add conditioner. I dont redoo them at this point as the sections are already formed. I then rinse out one section at a time with a shower hose. I put on a shower cap with my hair dripping wet and then after I've showered I add some Giovanni Leave in, section by section. I keep a spray bottle of water handy and detangle with my jilbere comb one section at a time. This is very easy, especially with Giovanni products overall.

I also use braids and then seperate my hair in the shower. I use a detangler conditioner or product to help. Even when I take my hair down from a protectitive style I make sure that my hair is wet or at least moist with water or some type of product in it.

do you ever find that you have a harder time clearing the buildup from your hair when it is in braids? i've tried the braids method and i had buildup/dirt stuck in my braids

i just started doing this and its soooooo much easier. i comb and braid my hair in sections before washing. i wash and condition in braids, about 8. since i have done this twice so far, i have been blow drying so i just take one braid out at a time and dry. absolutely no tangles!!! like someone said, it works like a charm.:p

I'm going to try this method. I even picked up some barettes from the BSS to keep my braids together. Thanks ladies.

I love, love this method. I haven't looked back since washing my hair this way. I found I was able to do this even without putting barrettes on my ends. It really keeps the tangles at bay and it's so much easier combing and detangling in sections under the shower stream.

So far, no I have not had any build up. I detangle one braid with conditioner in it, and then thoroughly rinse after combing before going to the next braid. I use four braids.

I only comb after I apply my NTM leave in, BB Oil Moisturizer and castor oil. The comb slips right through.

Do you DC in braids?
I too wondered this. I haven't washed my hair in braids yet but I'm going to do it next time, just to experience the difference.:)

How can you get all the henna out while wearing braids?

I apply the henna, braid up, and when rinsing time comes, I take down one section at a time, rinse the henna out, re-braid and move onto the next section. No tangles. :)

I picked under the flow of water cause that is the best IMO but I dont always get to do so my second choice would be when the hair is full of conditioner.:)
