Thinking about throwing in the natural towel...

If the top of my head is 4b and 4b has the characteristics of being straight at times or what not (from that thread) then how do I start to fix this because I remember it used to be some texture coming in but it was looking straight for the longest. Even if I stop my puffs for awhile and just wear half wigs my hair will still be brushed back and smushed into a wig cap.

Your natural hair is so gorgeous! :yep: I know what we say is not the final law, but if relaxing your hair would make you happy, we will support your decision....but don't do it!:nono::lachen:

Start braiding all of your hair. You know the style you did like mine? The part you have in a puff, braid it in single plaits and hide it under a phony puff. In other words, wear all your hair the same. And then when you undo it...it'll have the same stretch all round.

I wear puffs, but when I plait all my hair and then not use a wet moisturizer...I can change my puff from looking like this:

...to looking like this:

The thing with 4B hair is when it is stretched, unless fully banded, it will not look like a 1 or a 2 or a 3...but just have its own cloud-like look, and if that's not what you're after, then I suggest wearing twists then a twist-out or braids, then a braid-out to get a wavy looking mane.

You can do this in the evening on damp hair or do it on dry hair than CW the braids and let them airdry. Then in the AM, undo and shake and have your stretched uniform pattern all through the hair. In other words...for 4B hair to behave the same all over, it all has to get the same treatment.

Cool thing about 4B hair is when you're tired with a style, you can wash and do another. But you have to learn the most basic lesson about 4B hair: unless you keep it in styles that stretch it (twists, braids, banded) you will have it tangling and knotting and may find it shrinking into a compact mass that seems to think its in charge. Also it really isn't that difficult once you learn how to get it to look how you want it to look.

See that's the thing I don't braid my hair my mom does it lol I was thinking about just getting cornrows straight back if I go over there tonight that way when I undo it it will all look the same or whatever but I'm going to just throw a wig on it today. I detangled it in the shower after it was loaded with conditioner. Then Im going to put my leave in crap on it thennnn put the wig cap and keep it moving til I get off work and I'll probably keep it in cornrows til friday then take them out saturday morning. Sound like a plan? Also I'm going to try to learn how to flat twist in the meantime.

Except Mwedzi, if she has my type of hair, it may hang A BIT with the weight of water and conditioner but when it dries, it shrinks up. No cut will make it hang, if it is not the hanging kind.

sorry, poor choice of words. I didn't mean really "hang", but I meant shaped the way she wants. We didn't see a pic of her whole head after cowashing, but she said she can't wear her hair like this because of the way it looks. Well, the only thing I could understand that to mean was that her different textures make the hair shape look wrong, because some will droop (let me avoid the word "hang") more than others. Because some textures are looser than others. If she gets a professional cut by someone who understands curly hair, they can cut it into a shape that she'll like to wear loose.

I think your hair looks fine and that's a decent amount of growth for less than 2 years. I think you could get a similar look to what you want from doing flat twists and curling the ends. Flat twists give pretty good "hang". They turn out best on damp hair for me.

Your hair is very pretty!, I kinda like how my hair puffs out instead of downward it looks more unique and sexier in my opinion. But if your going for the more laid down look then twists outs will work very well.

I have nothing to add that hasnt already been said- your hair is gorgeous, please give it more time before making a decision you may regret.

Beautiful hair! I say take a break before doing anything drastic.

Start wearing your hair in some protective styles, step away(while still taking care of hair) and come back after some time/length to reevaluate the reason why you went natural in the first place. My problem was boredom which is solved with a week or 3 of wigs then I'm back again - Be sure that you always have healthy hair to come back to.
