I've heard that Cain's curse was dark skin

This was and I am sure is still being preached in some Southern Baptist churches to deter interracial relationships...some folks really think that we are a cursed people. It's nonsense and fear mongering. My hubby told me about how some clear people at his then job believed this and it saddened me that people were using God's word to spread hate. I was like I'm cursed...I had no idea erplexed.

I am Catholic but a good friend of mine begged me to go to her Pentacostal bible study many years ago. The bible study leader proceeded to read passages from the bible to tell me that my African relatives would be condemned to hell because they walked around uncovered in the bush. That was so ignorant I never returned again!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to think straight was better. Now I feel it's all good. God likes variety which is why he created hair of all textures from straight to curly. I found a positive that seems to work for me: I can style my hair and it stays for weeks until I decide to change it. And I discovered that my hair will grow. I thought that only certain black people or mixed people could grow hair until I came to this board. I know everyone already knows this but it feels good to share.

I'm a life-long member of COGIC- Church of God in Christ - the largest Black Pentecostal denomination in America and we DO NOT preach any nonsense like that. As a matter-of-fact, some of the ladies get really carried away with the hair, makeup, jewelry and clothes. Don't even get me started on the fancy hats! We were taught to avoid being confused with hookers, but other than that, everything goes.

I think the behavior you are describing sounds like some sort of cult. I woulda run away from that mess, too.

I'm fourth generation COGIC on both sides of my family and I've never heard the Lord is punishing us with coarse hair, etc. You only have to go to the Convocation or AIM (I liked it better when it was UNAC...anyway, I'm going off topic) to see that we don't dress too conservative. But different pentecostal demoniations do different things. I wouldn't subscribe to the "punishment theory"; the scripture says, out of one blood God created all men.

Whenever we went to church in Nigeria, I would be looking around like
We still had to cover our heads, and men couldn't sit with women, but anything else went.
People wearing hats from like...other planets, laces in every color of the rainbow, makeup on POINT.
I wish someone would try to march into church not looking their best. The usher'll tell you to take your simple behind back home and change, because when you're going to see the Master of the Universe in His own home, you better come correct.
It was one thing if you didn't have the means to get all dressed up, (and the village was small, so you know who they were) but the people who could, really went there.

And the atmosphere was still that of worship. It wasn't like they were competing with one another to look good or anything.
I'm really sorry that you had bad church experiences growing up, but I'm really happy that it didn't make you bitter or turn you against God.

ETA: I do remember reading something about how Jesus had hair like lamb's wool...which is not straight or silky at all. Hahaha at selective Bible readers.

Actually, it says that his hair is WHITE like lamb's wool.

If we're being punished for course hair then -

- some folks are being punished for having flat butts & no boobs
-some folks are being punished for having squinty eyes
- some folks are being punished for having no melanin in their skin and having to risk getting skin cancer to get a lil' color
-i mean every culture/race is getting punished for something if it were to be true that some are punished with course hair.

Being that I don't agree with that nonsense, I'm moving on... there will always be stupid amongst us (sorry to offend anyone) which is why God tells us that every man is a lie and we are to search the scriptures for ourselves to learn the truth about his words. (Romans 3:4).
