The longer my hair gets....

The more AFRAID I am to go to the hairdresser. Honestly, I'm so afraid that with one visit, the stylist might jack up my hard work! I can't see myself letting anyone touch my hair, especially when I get to bra strap. Look, but don't touch,

Am I alone in thinking this???

No I feel the same way. I intend on perfecting applying my relaxer so I won't even have to let my mom do it. She does a good job, but its seems the longer my hair gets, the longer it takes for her to apply it, and I have some underprocessed patches throughout my head.

Nope, you're not... I feel the same way!! Every time I go for my touchup/trim I get SOOO nervous!! The last time I went, I made sure to tell my stylist how I was feeling, just so he would KNOW to go easy on me while trimming!!

But I definitely feel ya on this. You never know when that

relaxer will turn on ya!!

Well guys if it's any comfort - I also felt this way and it was ME who jacke dmy hair up.

Where's the consolation you say? I dyed my hair 5 times in 4 weeks and it's recovering nicely.

The thing to know about "jack ups" is that unless they are catastrophic, they really can be fixed and you don't necessarily have to do anything drastic (like lop your hair off - which I considered many a time in the past few months).

I know that wouldn't be of any immediate help if someone were to cut too much, or do something bad with the relaxer....but it can all be fixed...

Look at how much hairlove has repaired her hair after the bad Aveda relaxer!

And you should be. Some of them are downright crazy. I'm taking a pocketknife each time I go for now on.

Me too. And the worse part is, hairdressers are racing against the time, and therefore can't straighten all the parts well, particularly when they have a lot of hair on their hands. I think it would be best if they could do one side at a time, but I have yet to see anyone do this.

That's true Tracy. Bad styles and what not can definitely be fixed but it's the scissor-happy stylists I'm usually worried about. I think I have scissor-happy radar now,lol.

Yes, i am fearful of the stylist now. All her products got harsh ingredients and she is scissorhappy. I havent let her cut my hair in months but i think im going to buy some elasta qp products that she can use on my hair instead of that other stuff.

You are definitely not along in thinking this. I am considering putting some highlights in my hair and I don't even want to go to a stylist for that!!! Nobody can pamper and take their time with your hair like you can

My stylist isn't scissor happy. He sprays in detangler as he combs out each section to rollerset it. He also gives me helpful product tips as we discuss my hair's condition during each service.

I just don't want to pay him.

I can relate to this. Seems like every stylist I have gone to has been scissor happy. Somehow 1 inch means 3 inches to some of these people.

I haven't been to a salon in over 10 years. Adrienne recommended her stylist to me, and I know she wouldn't just let anyone do her hair. I'm considering going to her, although I have such anxieties even thinking about it. Maybe for our LA meeting on the 24th I'll have my hair professionally done.

I just feel like all these years of praying for,finally getting,and learning how to take care of
longer hair are not going to be lopped off in a single visit to a scissor-happy stylist. So if I get even a hint of a feeling that the stylist will try to go weed wacker on my hair I won't go back. I could almost promise I've seen some stylists get these little beams in their eyes and have mischievous little grins on their faces when they see a pair of scissors

. I'm not playing, it's like what's the fascination with cutting hair, does it release endorphins thereby calming the stylist down?

my stylist isnt scissor happy and she always shows me the amount she cuts off before she does it. but she is fickle, one minute shes telling me "oh you have some pretty hair", then it's "your hair isnt as long as it used to be when you first started coming". *duh, when i first went to her i was 12 and 4'10'', now im 21 and 5'10'', obviously i have the same amount of hair and im just taller*

anyway, im afraid to go just because i dont want to hear "oh you need a touch-up"

I'm scared too. I'm going to a Dominican salon for a trim and blowout in NY next weekend. I've only gained 3-4 inches from a year ago. It's kind of disheartening.

I feel ya! Right now, I have a wonderful stylist that I have been going to for over 8 years now. She cares about my hair, and wouldn't do anything damaging to it! She would never cut more off than I would want her to. I am moving soon...so I will have to find someone new.

I am the same way. I have not been there in a LONG time and I used to be a regular. I feel like after going there all those years, but only gaining success when I did it on my own, there us no reason to go there. Unless I want a special style.

I'm pretty confident in my stylist/salon but I always get nervous about the retouching... but my stylist removes the relaxer starting from the back if she ends up taking longer....I like that.
