Summer Bun Challenge

I've worn my hair in this bun everyday this month:

Its been so very quick and its soo hot & humid in Florida this past month, that I think bunning has been great for my hair this summer. I will keep on keeping on in August.

I've fallen off :( the weather has been tolerable in NYC so my hair is straight.

BUT for the couple of weeks I was wearing my bun my edges filled out in my problem area. Simply because I would detangle nightly(or every 2 nights), M&S & apply JBCO to my edges and nape. Ladies if you aren't using castor oil of any variety on your edges, you are missing out.

Yo this is pissing me off. Im grazing BSL and still cant do a proper bun. I have to use the pony tail, roll and bobby pin method to make a donut bun. But the bobby pins make me get spilts and ssk's. my hair is very dense and shrinks like crazy, so its hard to do a bun.

Have you tried braiding your hair at night to stretch it and then bunning in the morning? My hair cooperates with the bunning a lot more when it's stretched first

It's been over two months of just bunning for me. No flat iron or hair dryer, just wash and bun on wash day. This is making my life so easy, since it just take a couple of minutes to spray on my leavin, add some coconut oil , seal and bun.

I hope to see my real growth when I do my touch up in a couple of weeks.

I went on vacation this weekend and wore my hair out. So many people tried to molest my curls. The most common compliment I got was, "Your curls are dope."

Not always bunning per say but I do protective style 6x per week. I'm finding that a single braid is easier and looks neater (I have layers) than a bun in a lot of cases.

I think I could handle this challenge if I were relaxed/texlaxed/texturized but I'm natural and it would probably require too much manipulation. Any natural, type 4, APL participants in this challenge? If so I would love your suggestions!

Hay there, Im almost APL 4B/C and I normally only bun my twists or a twistout.

with the tiwstout I take the twists out and bun right away for a textured bun. at night I loosen the ponytail holder and take out the pins and loosely tie down my hair so my edges can get a little tamed. Then in the morning moisturize and redo the bun.

minimal manipulation

This is my normal routine as well. Works great on my 4b hair.

Me! I band/set my hair in 8 sections on wash day. It's stretched once dry. Nightly I moisturize and put my hair in 4 braids. In the morning I undo the braids and bun.

I'm gonna need some check ins

Checking in, I'm still bunning took me hair down after 5 or 6wks(i forgot) detangled according to Naptrual85 25min cowash & Detangling method, a method I will be doing from here on out I might add. 1) I couldn't believe how easy it was and 2) How lil hair I lost. So I'm back in my braided bun for 6wks.

I'm natural 4a 4b. Bunning is easier for me if I put braids in my hair and then bun. Nothing to big or small. I think my parts are about 1inch wide. This way less manipulation and breakage.

I know I'm joining late, but I'm platinum level. I have wore my hair pulled back in a bun since May! OMG! I'm getting a little tired of it, but I have no idea what to do with my hair. LOL!

I'm star level, so I've been wearing buns for 5+ days a week since May. It's working for me in terms of length retention, but I gotta admit I don't look so cute some days :ohwell:

Currently scouring youtube for bun inspiration.

Still bunning regularly. My touch up is this weekend, so I may skip a day. So far, I've bunned everyday since I started in May.

Buns rule! :dance7:

How thick is your hair? Wearing buns for me is very low manipulation, but my hair is also naturally thin.

Awesome, I'll put you on the challenge list to make it official.

Good luck with your first year!

Thank you do much. I appreciate it.

Here's my update. My hair has grown so much from wearing buns this summer that all I wanna do is show it off. Lol and show it off I did. Since I came back from vacation, it's been wash and goes. It's vain though. My classmates look very high society when they come to class and I want to look bougie too lol.

When it's crunch time, I don't think it will stay that way.

My hair is naturally very fine and thin too. I'm a 4a and my longest layer is brushing BSL (it comes down past my shoulder blades). So far bunning has worked really well on my hair so long as I don't bun on wet hair and keep up with my deep conditioning and protein treatments.
