Stylist told me that I needed a trim every 2 months... + Pics!

and I thought to myself that I would retain no length. :nono: I look at these comparison pics and still see that I've retained no length. I'm natural, usually wear my hair in twists, so they wreak havoc on my ends. My stylist told me to trim every two months to get rid of the splits that would travel up the shaft and make my hair thin.

I went to Too Groovy and had a new stylist Selethia or something like that. I wasn't sure about her, since I had booked with Latrellis who had an emergency. I think the new girl did a great job, though.

As a result of having to cut off all my progress every time I get my hair straightened :whyme:, I am going to become a straightened or at least blow dried natural. I will try pinkskates' wonderful method this weekend. I already bought a new blowdryer.

You look great. And I see the condition of your hair (or straightening method) appears to improved and it seems to have increased in length!

Don't trim unless YOU need to.

MissJ, let me first say...You look FIERCE in your court attire! Love it!

Your hair looks nice, too. Being a pressed natural is a good alternative if you aren't seeing much progress with the twists; PinkSkates is, and she's waist-length now. :yep:

Your hair is beautiful. The only thing I can say is DO NOT LISTEN TO THE STYLIST. Dust when needed. She will be cutting off your progress and then some. So by year end you will be at shoulder. Watch yourself with them.

As a natural my hair grew beautifully with and because of twists but I always had the same problem with the ends too. Yep your hair looks like it's just staying the same length. Hopefully you can figure out a way to break the cycle. And, you have the cutest figure, it's just ridiculous, and unfair:look:.

Your hair looks like it grew to me. You look great!

It grows, but the last two times I went to the salon I had gotten to bra strap length. Then it had to be cut because of the ends. I'm not even at bra strap length, but I should be at midback length by now.

The hair in the first picture was done by a lady who said she knew how to do natural hair but really didn't. The other two times I had my hair done at Too Groovy, an Atlanta salon that specializes in natural hair.

Well, First - I think you and your hair look terrific.

secondly - I have never believed that cutting hair ( even trims) would help hair grow....For all of my years - it has never made sense to me. I am sure you will find the best solution though.
Good luck!:yep:

MissJ, you and your hair look great. The ends are better in the Jan 2009 shot. When you wear your twists, do you moisturize the ends regularly and if so, how often?

I love your outfits and your hair!!!

Do you always rely on a stylist? I only ask because any time I rely on somebody else to do my hair it always ends up chopped off. Maybe you can learn how to rollerset and do your own hair. Have you tried bunning instead of twists? Maybe another protective style can help.

Anyway your hair does look gorgeous and healthy so I bet you can be BSL at year end :)

Hey J,

You are one HOT juror!

Are you adding extensions to your twists?
If not, consider doing so even thu your hair is long so that you can twist pass your ends and they are tucked away more.

Your HAIR is nice and thick - whatever you're doing is working!

Good luck!

I moisturize them really well when I do them, and let them stay for a week or two. I don't know how to go about moisturizing them during that time. I've just accepted that I will get knots, tangles, and split ends.

I only go to Too Groovy, and at this point that's only twice a year since I'm only in Georgia twice a year. I don't know how to put my big hair into a bun. I'm not fond of twist, but I just do them, because it's quick and easy.

Your hair is nice and all...but your body is ON POINT I am jealous. You go girl. Stop trimming them ends so often. Maybe just trim twice a year if you feel like you need a trim.

Your hair is beautiful.:yep:

Please don't let a stylist trim your hair every two months.:nono: If your ends are a problem, try protective styling.

The more I think about this, the more it makes me very suspicious:rolleyes::

You have been able to grow your hair out to near BSL (GREAT accomplishment) yet a stylist that has worked on your hair ONCE (she is not even the person you had the appointment with and has no history with your hair) declares that you HAVE to get your hair CUT (presumably by HER) every TWO months (STEADY INCOME for her salon) without waiting to see how your hair or ends look in the future said TWO months time……why CUT?

Why didn't she recommend a series of deep conditioning treatments?

Its like she had already decided that your hair length has got to GO and there is not other way to prevent future damage, so you should not even try...:nono:

I would not even let her touch my hair again!

P.s. Maybe I'm overacting....but I've read too many horror stories from women putting faith in a "so-called" professional who did more harm than good!

Especially where NATRUAL black hair is concerned, I think the industry is very miseducated.
