I voted 4a. But what do I know? 3c was made up along the way, wasn't it?

Yes, which is why everyone is so confused when attempting to type their hair and others. 3C originated from the naturally curly forum. But the whole thing has overlapping and contradictions.

Andre's system stopped at 3b in the 3 category
" Type 3B, on the other hand, is hair with a medium amount of curl, ranging from bouncy ringlets – think of Shirley Temple – to tight corkscrews – think of actress Cree Summer of television's Sweet Justice of jazz singer Cleo Laine."

Andre's 4a
4A, tightly coiled hair that, when stretched, has an "S" pattern

naturallycurly's 3C
Type 3C, is hair with tight curls in corkscrews. 3C has really really tight curls, like pencil or straw circumference. 3B is like sidewalk chalk or salt shaker circumference, and 4A is like coffee stirrer circumference.

naturallycurly's 4a addendum
4a hair has a clearly visible curl and wave pattern that ranges from pen size curls to pen spring size coils

See the overlap. I believe the additions to Andre's system confused matters, and wasn't really necessary.

ETA: Cree Summer's hair is 3b in Andre's system, but probably 3c by the adopted standard1

:yep: Yes, what she said. ^^^^

Thanks!

I've always been curious about my hair type. What is it? This was freshly washed, wet hair. Thanks In Advance!

Frizzy, I would say 4a since you have a definite curl/coil pattern and they are of a smaller circumference. I may be wrong, but one thing I know for sure: your hair is lovely :yep:.

I wonder why 3C was added.

Salt shaker......that's really big......now I'm uber confused:spinning:.

ETA.....I agree with the additions causing more confusion.

And it causes too much "no your not", "yes I am" on the board. My straw sets never looked like 4a to me, and certainly not by Andre's standard.

But I do think hair density and the natural shine factor, add to the confusion. The best hair advice, I have ever received was from people with thick hair, no matter what the type.

I agree, I will take advice from anyone with healthy hair no matter what the type.

4a is coffee stirrer, 3c is pencil, 3b is side walk chalk. ummmm then what am i ??

just when i had it all figured out, lol

i think there needs to be 3b.5 cuase im not pencil sized and im not side walk chalk sized either.....

3c/4a
:yep: It's lovely. And this hair typing thing gets me confused sometimes with the in betweeners. Lol. I think sometimes you just are a mixture of one and the next.

They felt like there was too much of a gap between 4a and 3b. It does create a lot of confusion though. Per their descriptions my hair would be 3c but most of it is not.

thanks. their additions and changes do make it confusing.

With them I would be both 4a and 3c. in the original way, I would just be 4a. I'll just stick with 4a.

4a is so confusing!!! to answer the question i say 4a, but i'm 4a, and my coils range from a bit larger to pen spring at my crown, to 1/2 the diameter of a coffee stirrer at my temples.

I am anything goes really.

There is some 3b/3c/4a up top and really i don't think there is one majority for me.

But hair typing doesn't really help with over all help with health. Curly hair needs moisture and no product will ever work universally for each hair type. There is no hair type product that will help just 4a or 3a or 1.

I take advice from everyone..... If u are type 1 with hair to your thighs then we need to talk.
