What are these called...........

What are those spiral roller things called? Spiral rollers? Lol. The plastic ones that are hard and shaped like a spiral that you are supposed to wrap your hair around to get spiral curls?
Does anyone use those? How do your results compare to flexi rods?

The look I'm trying to acheive is on page 44 of the newest issue of sophisticate's black hair (with mary j blige on the cover)

I have these but I don't know how to use them. I'll get somebody to show me how to use them after I get my next touchup.
If anybody knows how to use them please post the instructions.

I don't know what those rollers are called but I can say that the style that is on p.44 looks like braids with extensions. Is this the style?

Does the page say tress stress? If so, that's it, but I don't want extensions or anything. I just want my hair to have that curl pattern. (Not the braids)
