Spinoff: Why do you lurk?

In tune with the thread about lurking because you are unhappy with hair progress, and the reveal of so many newbies today (Including me), why do you lurk? I know that I lurked for months before I even joined, and even proceeded to lurk for weeks after that. Maybe I was intimidated or lazy, who knows? Now that I have started to post, I think to myself, "Self, this isn't too bad. What stopped you before?" I notice as I scan the threads that there may be 50 responses for xyz topic and 1000+ views. Why is that? As I type this I can think of a few reasons, but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

I lurked for 6 months before posting anything- mostly because everything I thought to ask- someone already did and it was just hard to integrate myself into the 'conversations'

I lurked a while before I first joined. For me I was intimidated. From the outside looking it is SEEMED as though it was clique-ish.

But once I joined and start posting right in, I notice that everyone is relatively funny/friendly with everyone here. You don't have to have a certain number of posts to enjoy the boards.

I lurked for almost year until I got fed up of not being able to comment and look at peoples lhf profiles to find out their passwords to their fotkis .

Once I paid to post I stopped lurking.

I agree. $5 isn't that much, but it's a waste if you don't really explore all of the boards features. When I found out that I was missing out on all the other informative threads in the other forums, I was like. I think people lurk because they don't really have anything to contribute to a particular thread, but are interested in the topic. Also, they may be scared that no one will respond to them because they are not well known. Or, maybe you don't feel like typing? Although I just started posting, I still lurk.... HARD. Lurker for life.

I lurked for about a month or 2 ,I wanted to post as soon as I joined but I wanted to get the gist of things and to figure out what all dem damn abbreviations were and ment like ...EVOO...HGH..TIA ect.... i didnt know what that heck that stuff ment and to get familiar navigating and searching so I wouldnt ask something that there have been a trillion post on

I lurked for over a hair I basically tried to educate myself on this hair thingy, and after trying so much things on this board and seeing the progress my hair made I wanted to show my appreciation to this board and I couldn't say nothing because I couldn't post so I paid the money and wala! I'm here now and I aint going a nowhere

yeah I sometimes wanted to post but then I was like,"oh wait I cant." Tbh I was too cheap to pay 5 dollars lol. But I finally paid just so I could comment.

I lurked for a while before i joined too...... it all seemed so daunting at first (creating a hair regimen, that is).... so i was kinda passively absorbing the info and taking notes before diving in, so to speak. Once i paid to join and actually started to participate, i realized how much of the "learning process" I'd been missing out on by simply reading, and not being able to comment/asking questions.

When I lurk now, if you call it that, it's usually out of sheer laziness. I may have something that i wanna say, but just dont have the energy to type it. So i just read and enjoy.

when I found this board- I quickly became a PJ- so I had to disappear for a while to curb my addiction. Now that I am a recovering PJ I decided to come back as a full member

I don't know. I used to lurk when I wasn't registered but that only lasted for like 2 weeks. Once I registered like the second day I started a thread. I couldn't wait to kick my shoes off and relax lol.

1-I learned so much by just reading the Archives

2- when i am ready to reply to a thread i see someone already posted what i was going to say

3- i love reading other people`s post

I love the search function so much and I think it is THE best part about LHCF (no I am not lying, sometimes I come on just to search) and it kind of irks me that people do not take advantage of it. You have people coming on asking the most juvenile hair questions that have been posted to death. It's such a great thing and people ignore it. It is here to help you people.

I think LHCF shuld make people wait for a week before they are allowed to post, just so they can search some. Or make a sticky or something...

ETA: MizA, the non paying members cannot search now. I htink they disabled it. When I was banned please believe I was up in google searching under LHCF to get my info. I love that search function and I wish more people knew how to search through google.

Since I just came out of lurking today....I finally stopped lurking because like many of the other ladies have said, a lot of the questions that I had were already being answered. Heck, I could go back to posts from 2004 and still find useful information, however I did get tired of being blocked from stalking people's fotki albums !! I've always practiced healthy hair care but not knowing these abbreviations didnt help much either, lol. LHCF abbreviates err'thing!

I'll be honest today I asked a question when I knew that there were 30-11 threads floating around about and I could just search for it. Once I got my question answered, I had more that were related but not so much. I figured... "Well since you're already here..." I couldn't stop pumping them for info. What's worse about it, is that one of the ladies, posted a link to a thread about the topic, and rather than read it, I acted like I didn't see and proceeded to ask another question that was answered in the thread. The lady who responded was kind enough to answer my question and quote an explanation from the thread that she originally referred me to! I swear... I am so lazy sometimes.D I'm sorry, if you're reading this. I didn't mean any harm!

Ditto! I lurked for 2 yrs until the search was no longer available. Then I paid the $5 so I could search some more ...

I don't post that often just b/c there's still so much to learn by reading others' posts. But if I see someone w/fabulous hair or a too funny comment, I post to acknowledge that.

ITA. Not to step on any toes, but it would save a lot of space on the board if more folks searched before posting (and perhaps bumped old threads in order to post a related question rather than a brand new thread )...But I know we all can be lazy sometimes, so c'est la vie, haha.

When I first paid the 5 dollars, I was still afraid to post. See, I been on board before ( not hair related) where the members were highly critical of each other . At the time, I was very sensitve and I didnt think I would be able to handle any negativity towards my hair. But after a month I saw that was clearly not the case and that you ladies were encouraging and wanted to see each other succeed.

Also I like that you guys dont do the childish act of pointing out each others mistakes in grammar and in spelling. When I am on the board, I am usually at work or doing stuff other stuff online. I just dont go back and proofread.

I lurk now because I feel like I don't have much to contribute. I love reading others' posts though.
