Curly Girl. I had read about it, but didn't think it applied to me. My curls hadn't really formed yet, and it really just looked like wavy frizzy hair. After having a good trim, and no longer shampooing, I began to see curls. In an effort to manage the frizz, I started using the CG Method, and it's been really good for my hair!
I love Ayurveda, but had never henna'd till earlier this month, and I dunno what my problem was for not doing it sooner. It's Amazing!!
Yep sure did!
1. Megatek
2. Coochie cream
3. Jherri Curl juice challenge
4. Sulfur (have mark on my neck to prove it)
5. Henna
Those are five that I can think of at the top of my head. The megatek was the only one that gave me great results. Henna was alright but too drying.
Sent from my iPhone using LHCF
Haha. @BostonMaria mark on your neck from sulfur? Do explain. Believe it or not, I still haven't tried Megatek, Sulfur or Henna. I don't really know what they are. I always hear about shedding or setbacks from them. I want to know more.
After about 2 days of using the sulfur growth mix, my neck got this weird rash. I also got two huge pimples on my face the size of a newborn baby. It took a while for the rash to go away. To this day I still have the mark on the side of my neck to remind me of my foolish ways LOL![]()
I wouldnt say I dodged any band wagons, but I usually am not a pioneer ... I'll wait to see what the experiences are then hop on. regarding products/new product lines though
now that I know what my hair likes, once they incorporate those ingredients I will most likely try them out. this is no different from what I do in real life re: gadgets and other products
so here we go
Band wagons I hopped on and still riding ....
Ayurveda/henna
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop.
Herbs and teas
burdock root, marshmallow, hibiscus, nettle, horsetail etc – I feel a difference in my hair when I use teas and many products incorporate these herbs. Infusing my own oils and making teas (for me) is a better alrenative
Butters and oils
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. ceramide oils have helped with the overall health of my hair. I also no longer use commercially prepared lotion – only butter/oil mixes for my skin
Clays/terresentials
Started using since Im natural. Bentonite and rhassoul clays are a staple cleaner for my hair and skin (face) French green clay – staple facial product
Sulphate free poos
I don’t believe not shampooing at all. My scalp needs this. But I do see and feel a difference between clean vs stripped hair. My staple poo is Dr Bronners (despite what kimmaytube says re pH
I still shampoo weekly
Cowashing
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. I see and feel a difference with moisture retention.
Baggying / Green House method
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. Its like a moisture boost. I baggy my puff periodically, rarely do whole head baggys.
Growth aids, vits and supplements
the ones I have tried do work (MT, MTG, sulphur based, MSM, Biotin) I agree that many of these vits and supplements will be provided through a balanced diet but there is no questioning the growth spurts I had using these growth aids.
Aloe Vera juice
works well for my hair re: moisture retention
ACV rinses
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that Im natural. don’t intend to stop. an alternative cleanser which has been used in other cultures long before we stumbled upen it
Protein DCs
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. When relaxed, doing a mid relaxer protein treatment eliminated breakage and improved retention. Achieving the proper protein moisture balance has helped the overall health of my hair.
Steaming
Ive always steamed my hair – even as kids my mother used to steam our hair with castor oil, though this was not really steaming just sitting under a drye with a plastic cap on – the bandwagon I joined was to buy my own steamer …. And I love it
Using leave ins
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. never did this before LHCF – helps with moisture retention
Black Soap
Bought this for hair, but now it’s the only soap I use to bathe with
Using handmade/hand crafted natural products
Started when I went natural and was an extension from general lifestyle changes I had been incorporating into my everyday activities – natural lifestyle. (eco friendly household products, downsized my car, organic/local produce, stopped eating out/processed food, weight loss and healthy living)
Tangle Teezer
Still use with no issues
Protective styling
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that Im natural. don’t intend to stop.
Basically employing practices that protect my ends – aid in retention. I however do not do wigs, weaves etc, just bunning, updo’s twists, low manipulation etc
Doing my own hair
Started this when I was relaxed and continue now that I’m natural. Don’t intend to stop. For the reasons we all know. Now that I’m natural I will wash, DC and put in LI then go to the salon to get my hair corn rowed / twisted (only because they do it better)
Finger Combing
Greatly reduces hair loss during detangling
Curly Girl
Basically incorporates many of the practices I already employ. I just now ensure I don’t use products with cones that aren’t water soluble.
Other things I tried but didn’t stick with
kimmaytube LI
kia fizz/milk of magnesia
Drink your way to waist length – I still use wheat germ in my smoothies and shakes
Using food in my hair
Used to use yogurt, molasses, honey, mayo …. now I just eat the darn things and buy the products which offer me the same benefits. I’ve never use avocados in my hair though – they are just too yummy
Baking soda
Not enough of a benefit to continue using
