I’ve been thinking about this exact topic for a while, and I had to finally ask myself “Why not?” especially with all the healthy hair tips I’ve gained from this board over the past few years. I always had long hair, but started cutting it after my daughter was born in ’97 because I thought it would make me look more mature now that I was a mother. At 27, people still thought I was in my late teens. :ohwell:

I’ll be 36 at the end of this month, and I’m so excited to see so many ladies in my age group representing with beautiful heads of hair. BSL, I’m coming back for you! Thanks for the inspiration, ladies.

By the way, at almost 36, I don't mind getting carded anymore.

I read something about silver updos and while they are stunning on some women I'm going to be like my grandmother - dye my hair on the death bed! Nobody's gonna catch me in silver hair LOL

Me too. Nice to see us old (wait, young--30 is the new 20, remember) farts on the board. :D

Hey now!

OT- As someone approaching her late 30's, I actually look forward to turning 40. I'm healthier than I was when I was in my 20's (I gave up smoking almost 4 years ago), and I've found that I have a confidence in myself that I didn't have when I was in my 20's.

I hear you! Congratulations on quitting smoking!!

There is something about growing in knowledge and confidence that keeps you young isn't it? Also I think that many of us are more conscious of taking care of ourselves than we were in our 20s. Partying and bad college food take a toll even on young bodies:lol:

Girl, I’m a certified aerobics instructor at the age of “almost” 47. When I teach, I give those 20 somethings a run for their money. I took an aerobics class last night and a younger woman came up to me and said she was feeding off my energy. :) Thanks for the compliment.

YOU LOOK GREAT! No one would ever guess what age you are. It goes to show that age is just a mindset. Keep setting the bar Mariaat40!!!

Thank you, chicka. :)

I agree, when a woman has confidence in herself, she exudes a youthful glow. I am much more conscious about taking care of myself now (avoiding high fat/cholesterol foods, eating healthier foods and limiting fast foods to mostly weekends, working out more). And yup, I can't tell you how many times what kind of toll excess partying did to my body in my early 20's. The human body can only consume so much alcohol!

Not 35 yet :sekret: but if you want long hair I don't see a problem with it. I plan on letting mine grow as long as it will grow

Thanks Softresses. It's amazing what you can do once you get past what you "should" be doing at a given age.

I'm ova 40 and I think confidence is the best look ever. So I will let the hair flow as long as I like and as long as it suits my face and lifestyle. I will add that some do cut their hair due to the night sweats that can acompany menopause. Perhaps I will put it on top off my head.Good protective style in any case.

I'm 48 (and starting to discover a few of those "power surges"!)

I plan to grow it between APL and BSL. I was also thinking of letting it go gray. I have a long way to go. I'll see how I feel about it a couple of years from now. It is good to learn, between this spin-off and the over 40 thread, that there are many other woman in this age-group, too.

That was me always thinking what I should be doing in my 40s and what I would have to stop doing when I reached 40.

Co-signin' (both age and sentiment). I like someone stated earlier, always said i would cut it all to the Camilla Cosby salt n pepper dou at 40...but alas...since finding you ladies and mourning my own mid-back legnth (plus realizing that 40 is a coupla blocks away) I am back on the wagon. My hair is pretty healthy (and so am I) so I just wanna know - how much mo' can I gro'? Toodlez ya'll!!!

A women's hair is her crown and glory. Why not grow it long? Where did the idea that only the young (I'm 35 and I'm still young but anyway) where did the idea come from anyway? I am going to grow my hair as long as possible. As long as I don't mind taking care of it, who cares?

I'm right behind you, GURL!!! Rollin' up on 42 in the spring!!!

I have always kept my hair short, and now I want length to it. But I must admit, it doesn't grow (on top) as fast as it used to.

But we gon see how long it gitz!!!!;)

Will be 49 in 2 months!

I want my hair ...

AS S'LONG AS I CAN GET IT LADEEZ!
If I get my hair to be BSL I would be thrilled!

I would love to be in good health with silky, long flowing locks with some grays running through looking like highlights:D

Remember, you only get better with time.
