Someone left this in my Fotki Guestbook

Ok ladies, I understand folks speaking their minds, but this is ridiculous! I don't lock my fotki, and I make invite people to give CONSTRUCTIVE critisism and advice, but I think I may be restricting access to it after someone had the NERVE to leave this "anonymous" message there:

"This is a classic case of what is wrong with black people today, you want to be your true African self but the other part of you is still suffering from the psychological trauma of being oppressed by the global white minority.

Therefor like fools you want to reflect the same image of a group of people who alraedy believe they are superior to you. This nonesense needs to stop, black women you need to stop handing over your hard earned cash to the Korean store, and know thyself and therefor BE yourself. Its this giving up mentality that will be the ruin of black people. Many of you know the commitment that locking our hair requires, the patience involved etc. However if you are not prepared to build the patience and charcater involved and the spirtuality that comes with having locks ....it is better that you give up. I wish people would have the sense enough to know that loving yourself means being yourself.

Locks = FREEDOM. Freedom from the self hate that allows black women to spend hard earned cash on fake hair, the freedom to form how other people percieve you.ie. as a black person who loves themselves and is not afraid to be non conformist."

Come on ladies, I need some feedback, or someone to step up and be woman enough to not hide. What do ya'll think about this?

I am sorry to hear that she or he wrote alll that! They should have saved that for a history lesson or something. That was so "off topic" for them to write that.

I'm confused. Do you have locks and the person is berating you for using too many products in your hair? Or are you relaxed and they're telling you to get locks to free yourself from "THE MAN'?

ETA: I don't believe that there is any character building or spirituality involved when deciding how you wear your hair.

Obviously they don't believe that black women can grow their hair as long as any other race. That's their own ignorance that's hurting them; but I guess they forgot to mention that as one of the flaws of some black people too... (if the person is black)

And they don't understand the patience and much love and care that it takes to grow your hair out to a desired length. It's not your fault that the only way they can grow their hair is through locking...

This person has so much to learn and obviously doesn't know the true definition of loving oneself.:nono::nono::nono:

I guess they are telling me that I am a "sell out" because I relax and that I am what's wrong with black america. I guess locks are supposed to "free me" or something.:ohwell:

No offense to the ladies who have locks now but doesn't locks achieve nothing but giving you years of matted hair??? So you're freeing yourself with matted hair??

Thanks Tiff. I just don't know why folks bother to write mess like this. Obviously, this person took a lot of time to write this to tell me about myself and how I and other black women are wrong because we choose to wear our hair differently than they did. I just thought it was really tacky for them to do this.

I guess you'll have to put a password on your Fotki. Some people seem to think that how we wear our hear should birth some kind of political movement.

It is just dumb to me because, the way that I wear my hair is my own decision. My ablility to make my own decisions is what makes me "free". I feel that if I have to BE a certain way to prove my "blackness" and how "down" I am with my "people", then there is no freedom in that at all. It's crazy how someone who is so "free" can be so close-minded.

TGL,

You know I really don't like when people try to knock others for what they are doing. Just because Ms/ Mr "Anymous" feels that way doesn't mean that he/she should knock what anyone else is doing. I say just let that comment roll off your back.

Personally TGL, I would not even worry about the comment left by "Anymous" ...Because when I believe in something I want the whole world to know and I'm not going to hide behind anything including the title "Anymous". I'm going to let the World know. So obviously he/she doesn't even believe what he/she is saying whole heartedly. Girl keep doing what you do cause you are doing it WELL!!!

Yes, Lil Wayne and Lil John are so FREE, they are the epitomy of self-awareness and a shining example to The Race. Lock up NOW and save yourselves ye oppressed relaxed, weaved, and chemically altered unenlightened ones.

I can at least respect people who stand behind their convictions. Anonymous = COWARD.

The person may have taken alot of time to write it, but obviously they were cowardly enough to hide behind the infamous 'anonymous' title. He/she obviously have issues with themself and their own hair that they need to sort out and just wanted to take it out on you. I say just don't pay attention to people like this and go ahead and do your thing.

Your hairs beautiful I'd just ignore them. I never could understand the argument that having locks = back to your African root. Hardly anyone in Africa wears their hair in locks (the only person I saw with locks when I’ve visited family in Ghana, Nigeria or south Africa was a white guy).

Girl you cannot take anybody who posts anonymously seriously.

Tell that treat to have a coke and a smile and STFU.

Exactly. I admit when I read what was written I was lmao at the sheer arrogant, ignorant audacity because this person is in their mind, really calling themselves schooling you. They are suggesting that instead of aligning yourself with the "others" you align yourself with their point of view. They are not interested in your freedom at all. Why locks-why not an afro? Why an afro, why not bald or puffs or WTF-ever? It's such an eye opening shame.

Sorry this happened to you. :nono:

Part of the beauty of being a black woman is that we have many ways we can express ourselves and be creative with our hair - natural or relaxed. If someone thinks the only way to be black is to have natural hair, and that to prove your blackness you have to have loc's, then they have just exchanged one master and form of bondage for another. True freedom is doing what you want to do, when you want to do it. If being relaxed brings you joy, then that is all that matters.

I encourage everyone to get to know their natural hair, because for some there is a certain amount of disdain for our natural features and I think we should learn to love, respect and appreciate ourselves and others. However, if your identity depends upon anything that can be taken from you, should this thing be lost or destroyed- hair, job, whatever - then your identity is lost or destroyed. You are enough- black enough, good enough, etc- because you are you. Dont let ignorant (if well meaning) folx destroy your confidence.

Fotki has settings that will record the IP of anyone who leaves a comment, you can also choose to only receive comments from others who have a fotki. You may want to enable those.

I've noticed there are still ladies with scroll bars in their siggys. Please take the time to fix this, as there may come a time where you can lose siggy privileges if you dont. See this thread for more help:

Dammit Niko, where is a shotgun cocking smilie when you need one!!!
Oh well this will have to do.

:killlurk:Chick had no business lurking in your fotki anyway. If she is locked hmmm locked up how much freedom is that, then why the heck is she in your relaxed hair fotki anyway. Militant a@# dreadlocked wearing %$#!@. No offense to those women who have locs and honor the rights of others to wear their hair they way they want to.

ETA: So sorry this happened to you . Be strong. Move on!

Oh yeah, they are models of blackness.

So what about the Africans/Africans Americans who are natural but don't have locks, I guess they are not free either. Black people across the planet must have been oppressed from the time they got to this earth.

Someone wrote the exact same thing in my guest book. Seems like they have nothing better to do than to go around harassing people. Guess what? That delete option works wonders!

Please don't take this seriously.:spinning:

In short some poor piece of crap need to get a life!

Seriously who has time to stalk fotkis THEN leave a dissertation?

Whoever wrote that, if you are reading this:

go play in traffic!

Now if you will excuse me I must run to work and be a productive member of society...........lol

WTF??!! Taking care of your hair is selling out, now? Well I am always gonna be sold out and so glad to have met company ! Sounds like a hater stopped by that fotki!

This is why I put a password on my account...people are very ignorant nowadays. I don't understand why the person would spend all that time leaving that extremely long message and then not be "free" enough with their locs to leave their name. I would just delete it and make your fotki private.

Sounds like alot of self hate up in that message

spending so much time worried about what somebody else is doing ..

She sounds a mess, and honestly it is hilarious, and if I was you id feel honored that someone took all that time and energy on me and doesnt even know me ..

Id be like " Thanks :D "

my advice: delete it and keep it moving......

sometimes folks have nothing else better to do than try to get under your skin. don't give 'em the satisfaction.

>delete comment>
