I'm too scared of picks so I've never had a picked out fro- I have blown out my fro after a braidout (never super straight or anything). It's really a shame too since my hair stands up pretty well without flopping over- maybe we should have a pick out your fro day and do pics?

I only "pick out my fro" when washing my hair and when it's drenched in conditioner. That's when I get to live out my fantasy of giving AFashionSlave a run for her money.

I'm too chicken to get out of braids any other time.

I did pick out my afro several times, but quickly realize that the pain I endured was not worth it. I now understand that if I am to wear my afro picked out, I need to pick it while wet. It's just too much work. I can't believe how thick and full my hair has gotten just be being a nappy...

It hurts! :-( (well, when picked dry, but if I do it when it's wet, it dries up and shrinks)

GIRL, u are not the only one!

i did comb my hair once when dry to make it bigger but im too scared to do a real picking....

i just did it like a week ago. i was scared of the pic something about the metal teeth just didn't look right. i only partially picked it out the rest was done with a large tooth comb that i use for detangling. big and pretty as your avatar is i thought sure you were a picker shatani!!!

I don't have a pick - I never tried it with one. I have combed out a 'fro while wet but I found it left my hair drier than usual so I haven't done it since.

I use a brush to create a full fro. I only use a pick after my hair is fluffed. I never rake the pick through my ends. I only use a pick at the end to gently shape my fro.
If any of you are interested, this is how I create my fro without breakage, damage or a blow dryer:

I would do it when my hair was shorter, with a headband on it. I find now that even with my hair wet and srinkage, it's still too big to wear, even when pushed back from the front... One day, just for fun, I might break out my dusty blow dryer and try AFashionSlave's technique and take some pics

When my hair was shorter and I did wash and gos, I would lightly pick my hair out. But I haven't used my pick in months.
