Sealing conditioner with oil?

Today I did a quick wash, liberally applied my Tresemme 24 Hour Body Conditioner into my hair, then placed EVOO on top of the conditioner to seal in the moisture for around 20+ minutes. My hair came out so soft and manageable, I literally can't stop touching and running my fingers through my hair right now. :perplexed (Bad, Aireen! :nono:) I'm hoping this isn't a fluke and that when I try this again on Sunday, I'll get the same or better results. :look: Does anyone else apply oil ON TOP of their conditioner to seal the moisture in then DC? Has it given you better results than just DCing with conditioner alone? What oils do you use for super moisturizing results? Thanks in advance, I recently cut my hair into layers and I'm trying new tips to grow it back softer and healthier than before.

This is how I DC every single time. i only apply a small amount of grapeseed, almond or coconut oil. You are guaranteed super soft hair every time

I don't know much about almond oil but I've heard grapeseed really keeps hair moisturized and I know it's a favourite around here. Coconut oil penetrates and prevents protein loss. Do you apply equal measurements of all three? Do you apply more of one oil than the other? Or do you just eyeball how much you put?

I do this but with castor oil. When I do, I use a light hand. My hair always comes out soft and easy to manage. I tried with coconut oil and it works, but not as well for me.

Yeah I started this like three weeks to a month ago. I put the conditioner in put my essential oil on their. It's a lot of different oils that came mixed already from whole foods . I can't say I feel a difference tho but I will continue to do it

Definitely give it a try! I used to mix oil into my DCs and I didn't get significantly better results but with this method, I did. PLUS my hair is airdried so I'm very impressed.

I currently mix, didn't think the results could be any better than they are but will try adding oil on top in my DC tomorrow!

I use castor oil too after reading a thread on it - just like Lilmama1011 I started about 3-4 weeks ago. My hair is RIDICULOUSLY soft since adding castor oil to my DC routine... just ridiculous! Have also tried coconut oil which wasn't so great, sticking to castor oil.

Are you washing it out or leaving the conditioner in?

Washing it out but only after leaving it in overnight or a minimum of 6 hours.

Honestly my results with mixing oils into DCs didn't seem to make a difference on my hair at all, it was pretty much a waste and I've done it more than once with different methods and time limits. I was so shocked when I tired this out though, my hair was a breeze to manage while dry. I'm going to try it with coconut oil since I have two bottles of the stuff to use up.

Washing the conditioner out. I never rinse my hair squeaky clean after conditioning but enough so that there isn't white residue on my hair.

EDIT: My Friend, I don't leave mine in for a long period of time though. I put a generous amount of both the conditioner and oil, making sure it gets between the inner layers of the hair and in areas we tend to overlook like above the ear, then I cover with a plastic cap. After all that, I just do whatever I have to do like exfoliate, shave, be lazy under hot water and rinse out when I'm ready to come out, sometimes that'll be 20+ mins while other times it'll be 15 mins max.

I do this often with Vatika oil. Since I generally don't buy deep conditioners (can't find any on the ground that does not have 'cones), the Vatika or plain coconut works well for that purpose.

Yes. I think the oil rinsing thread got me started*probably again, sure i've tried it before*
and I mainly use amla or vatika oil nowdays. And usually after applying cowash conditioners. I mix like Claudia and some others when it comes to my dc. Love it.

I have the same routine for WnG's. I co-cleanse, then run some oil over my hair, then apply some Tresseme Naturals Nourishing Moisture to each section. I use a mix of coconut, castor, and wheat germ oils. Hair stays moist for days!

Trying this out now. I have some silk dreams in with an oil on top and plastic cap. This is going to be a short dc...maybe an hour or so, but I will report back

I did it once because i had some left over oil from my prepoo. Since i had mixed the oils in a plastic up, and i had no empty bottle to store it, i decided to pour it over my DC that was in my hair. The DCer was already on my hair for about an hour, so i put the plastic cap back on and stayed another hour. Hair came out super super soft, and stayed soft for days, which is big for my porous, relaxed ends. I have always meant to try it again to prove this method, but i keep forgetting and rinsing the conditioner out before doing it. I will try again with a different DC next friday, and will report the results a few days later.

I apply coconut oil on top of my DC every time and I always get the same result, soft moisturized conditioned hair. The coconut oil also adds slip to the conditioner to assist with finger detangling.

Wow I'll definitely keep up with this then and I'll experiment with coconut, avocado, and grapeseed oil. Blairx0, how was your DC?

Yes I do always:yep: I put oil over top of my delightful DC's (I layers my DC's always - I don't mix). I have also incorporated oil rinsing during my cowash and the result is super fantastic:yep:

Sorry mixing didn't work but thank goodness you found a way to make it work for you - I'm trying this as we speak! To test I have sealed with castor oil to the back two sections only. I will compare the back to the front and report in tomorrow morning when I rinse!

Condition + oil = soft, moisturized hair.

I do this even when I am putting my hair up. When I am done washing my hair... add goo-gobs of VO5 or Tresemme, detangle, add oil preferable Vatika oil, then put into a bun, do a double twisted braid and secure the ends under.

Voila! That's it.

No rinsing....

After my stylist gave me a protein treatment, she then applied a moisturizing DC and massaged some oil on my scalp and the length of my hair.

Once my hair dried it was soft and smooth. I will definitely incorporate this method after a protein treatment.

@Aireen I only use one oil at a time but mixing it sounds great now that I think about it. Back when I first started doing this it was only it because I forgot to mix it in my conditioner and I use to put soooo much of it on my hair that even though it came out way better than mixing it in the conditioner it wasn't necessary and took longer to rinse. Now I apply the oil in the same two-four sections that I applied my conditioner only applying what fits in the palm of my hand.

claud-uk Question: How do you sleep with the wet hair without waking up and it being dry and knotty in the morning?

I've tried this, but if I go to bed with it too wet I don't sleep because I have water leaking all over me and the bed through the night... or if it squeeze the water out I wake up and the conditioner is dried in and knotty not having done it's job.

???

@Monaleezza - I always do everything in 4 sections (four braids or twists), so I just undo a section, apply DC and redo. I then tie all four sections together at the very ends with a small rubber band into a pineapple/pony to keep the hair in one place and on top of my head. Wrap entire head several times with saran, well down over my forehead, ears and nape so it can't slip. I then cut vertical slits for my ears  and tie tightly with my satin scarf. I also sometimes twist each section and tuck them under kinda like four oversized bantu knots.

I always mix my own DC's, and I find Queen Helene Cholesterol is the best at thickening up a mix so it's not runny. Just make sure you use sth really thick that it doesn't run. If you wrap just right you'll create an airlock of heat and your hair will be waaarrrrrrmmm the next day when you take the wrap off! I hate the feeling of wet skin, I can't do drips/wet scalp :nono:

Well, to update on sealing my DC with oil yesterday: I must say the oiled and non-oiled halves of my head didn't feel any different when rinsing this morning, which was a bit of a surprise, but now having airdried the back half of my head now feels much softer and smoother than the front half, both the entire braids and the individual strands. Although the back doesn't feel as good as it does when I actually mix the oil and DC rather than layering them - 8/10 compared to a straight 10/10 so close, but not quite.
