What is the longest stretch you ever done?

This week I will be 32 weeks (8) months post relaxer :yay:and will be relaxing at 33 weeks and can't wait . My hair is very short but it will be healthy and full and making my way back to bsl an inch at a time.

I must say although I am in braids I am soooo happy to be able to go that far and not feel like my hair has broken off. I was telling someone how long its been since my last relaxer and she said wow you not pregnant you don't have to wait that long :ohwell:. I was like wow people still don't get that you don't have to get a touch up every 6-8 weeks without losing your hair.

I used to stretch all the time before I knew what stretching was. I didn't relax during my whole pregnancy....years ago. I used to wear braids, etc. without relaxing.

But, my longest stretch since I started growing my hair out has been 7 months. I've gotten that same reaction from people. They think they have to relax every 4-6 weeks. To each her own. I've relaxed that frequently myself. The whole hair thing goes in cycles.

The longest I've gone was 73 weeks and my results were absolutely amazing. I am 34 weeks now and I am going to stretch until the end of the year. My hair has never looked this great and I attribute a lot of this to stretching my relaxer.

Former monthly relaxer turned 14 week stretcher checkin' in!

Trying to get to 16 week stretches this year.

I was natural for a very long time, so I really don't remember how long I (or my mom, I should say) used to stretch my perms. It was probably every 6-8 weeks :nono:

However, I just texlaxed this past December & I'm debating how long I should stretch before my first touch-up. I'm currently 13 weeks post.

I was thinking about relaxing at the end if April, 18 weeks post. Who knows. When the time comes, I may decide to stretch longer :yep:

Just got a touch up yesterday after a 16 week stretch. I always hate how flat my hair is with a fresh relaxer, and will be washing and roller setting this weekend.

I normally stretch for 16-18 weeks but my longest stretch was 20 weeks. I am currently 13 weeks post and attempting to stretch to 26-27 weeks. I will be relaxing in at the end of June/beginning of July. My hair is the healthiest it's been since I've started stretching. :yep: I just can't get enough!!!

Congrats on that stretch OP!!!! I have only stretched for about 16 weeks previously but this time around im trying to stretch for at least 20

I normally stretch for 12-13 weeks. I may strive for longer, we shall see :)

I have done 2 separate 1 yr stretches and I am currently doing a 6 month stretch. My last relaxer was in Nov. and I wont relax until May. I think I will keep with this routine. My hair is thicker, longer and healthier since I started stretch.

Technically I stretched for a whole year, but I say technically because I didn't know what I was really going to do w/ my hair afterwards. It was in full sew-in weaves during the time and I kept thinking tht I would just go natural. When I took my hair down I cut all the relaxed ends off, now I kind wish I hadn't since I'm just doing buns now :ohwell::lol:

But this will be my first time making a conscious effort to stretch in preserving the relaxed ends and also doing it with my hair worn out. Things that help me manage are:

  • Frequent washing helps me as it keeps my newgrowth pretty manageable.
  • The Suave humectant conditioner I used to use on my hair years ago when I went natural so I use that to comb my hair through while wet.
  • Then I use NTM as a leave-in that works well where I can comb through my hair w/ no breakage.
  • Then the rollersetting w/ rollers w/ snaps helps to stretch out the newgrowth.

The longest I think I've gone w/ my hair out was 3mths, but I wasn't texlaxed and I was wearing my hair down & combed out. Managing the hair while wet wasn't a problem, bit was when it was dry and I had to comb out the curls that became a problem. Now I'm texlaxed and I'm just bunning my hair and won't have to manipulate it as much, so I'm pushing for a 6mth stretch! I'm psyched!!

Congrats TLC

I normally stretch for 16 weeks. Right now I've been stretching for over 1 year and 3 months. I have 9 more months to go. After that I'm going to relax sometime in 2012, either February or June of 2012.

Not to digress, I hope you attain the length you are striving for. Congrats

4 months, I'm going to try to increase it to 5 or 6 months until I get the hang of that.

The longest I've ever stretched was maybe at about 14 weeks. I don't think I'll ever go longer than that. Longterm stretches aren't my thing.

The longest I stretched was 1 year and 3 months. I was stretching way before I knew what stretching was. I prefer my roots to have volume as opposed to that flat look and so does my husband. So I go as long as I want. I considered going natural plenty times. I will eventually but for right now relaxing once or twice a year is good enough for me.

My longest was 4 months when I was neck length...I saw a huge improvement after relaxing...but as my hair gets longer I find it harder to manager the 2 textures so now I stretch to 3 months

My longest stretch was 5 months, but I can honestly say it is not for me. I had a really hard time with breakage that I m still recovering from. This year I m aiming for 3-4 mos at a time

:blush::blush::shocked:

Everyone's hair is looking fabulous!!!! Mariposa, Beans, Solitude, .... too many to name!

Man, I have been away for too long!

Now, to answer the question... I don't usually stretch. I relax every 8-10 weeks.

My longest stretch was six months. I said I would never stretch that long, but I think I'm much better at it now so I'm going to attempt it again. For me, it really does help thicken up the hair and promote healthier relaxed hair (if the hair is maintained correctly).

I'm 22 weeks which is my longest stretch ever. My longest stretch before this one was 13 weeks. I wanted to stretch 26 weeks but I don't want to cause breakage. Combing my hair wet is becoming a chore and I don't want a setback just because I'm trying to reach a certain amount of weeks.

I plan on using Aphogee 2 step this weekend and do my weekly steam treatment in preparation for my relaxer next week. I am a reformed monthly relaxer head. From now on I will probably stretch 20 weeks. My troubles started once I reached week 20.

I can't wait until I relax to see all my progress. It's so thick I'm gettin my mom to put my relaxer in this time. I will update my siggy and hopefully I'm close to where I want to be.

The longest I've ever stretched was for 22 weeks. I am currently 20 wks & 2 days post..going for 26 :) I started using Hair One w/olive oil around wk 16 and haven't looked back yet! My hair is more manageable than the time bf due to this new addition into my regimen. I've even been contemplating going natural...I'm in love w/my hair texture now!

I stretch 12-14 weeks in spring/summer and 16-18 weeks in fall/winter. hats/scarves are wonderful for covering up new growth. but before I started taking care of my hair I went on a 9 month stretch wearing braids.

I stretched for 14 weeks last summer but I didn't have my regimen down the way I do now and experienced some demarcation line breakage. I plan on trying it again this summer now that I know what the heck I'm doing.

My longest stretch was 38 weeks. My minimum is 14 weeks, but I don't have a maximum. I'm currently at 16 weeks, my stylist and I have an agreement that I'll go 21 weeks but I may go longer.

You ladies be stretching i can barely make it to 10wks right now i am going for 12wks..we'll see how that works out.
