Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

Finally dyed my hair.I typically do jet black but now that I'm in my golden years, I have started with a brown black. Today felt like the first time I really sat down and looked at my hair and geez 2023 has been harsh. My edges have always been thin but they look really hospice level. I will have to make peace with it as aside from a medical intervention I wont have thick lush edges and may be in wigs until I leave the planet. Taking time during the week to do hair hasn't been a thing since my early years on this site, in college. I just needed to get that off my chest before I finish my grad paper.
Ok beauty and brains! You got this hun.

I hate that its so hard to find clip ins, or bundles that convincingly mimic 4b.

I've only once received a wig that looked and behaved like my hair.

Any bundles I've received have either been too coarse and downright HARD, or too loosely curled. I just want that fluffy afro quality- a couple of clip ins to thicken styles. Sigh.

I’m trying to have a mindset that I have never done a hair care routine minus the pj tendencies. Taking time every other day to see how my hair is feeling before stuffing it under a wig and doing nighttime care like massage or microneedling has felt different. I have been active on wanting long hair for my entire life. Maybe at my older age I may see some results due to no end result as now I just want to have healthy hair that’s a good foundation for weaves.

I just have to get this out. As I’m getting my msw I take this time to really get solid on self care as it will be required of me to be sustainable in the field. I want to cry seeing my 4.0 this semester hits deep because I have battled all yr long with remaining alive. I am looking at pics from this time last yr before embarking on school and leveling up my appearance and geez I’m not where I desire yet as the results haven’t started flowing in the tangible sense but I’m so grateful to see the blossoming. Even looking at my hair it’s not baby toe length but it’s not breaking by looking at it. I hope if I see this time next yr I can quote this and say I’m skinny, closer to graduation, flowy hair and married.

I was wondering why my hair would revert so fast after straightening. After tweaking my regimen to ensure that I was shampooing my hair properly, getting enough moisture to my hair via my DC, using minimal product during the blow drying process, etc. I realized that my flat iron was the issue! My beloved Sedu was perfect for my relaxed hair- not so much for my natural hair. My hair would be straight for about a day before puffing up again. However, since I was only straightening once a year (if that), I didn't stress it too much.

So....after 11 years, my Sedu finally kicked the bucket and I got a new flat iron. I went to Ulta and got the Chi G2 Ceramic & Titanium flat iron....and THAT was the difference! Little things really do matter when you are trying to get a certain style!

my revlon volumizer plus has been a godsend for blowdrying. I can now blodry my hair in 20 minutes! I'm so glad to be getting a much needed trim in a few days.

in 2024, I'm keeping things extremely simple while I juggle my full-time job and school.

I'm also taking my road test on Wednesday so yall send me some extra prayers so that I'll pass and not have to spend any more money on lessons.

I'm nervous since this is my second attempt at the road test and I don't want my nerves to get the best of me like they did a few weeks ago.

I'm super excited about school. I can't wait to finish up these last few classes before I apply to the accelerated bsn program, which would be my third degree. I also plan on getting my masters degree after I get some much needed nursing experience. I want to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner

GL to you @CoiledOrchids ! Second time's the charm!!

@Plushottie

You got this, Sis! I was gonna mention when you posted the blonde wig that it looked like you were losing weight. Now that I know it's one of your goals, I feel more comfortable saying it - I can see the difference!! Also, I hope that you achieve ALL of your goals! Keep visualizing and speaking it out, they will happen!

@mzsThank you. I actually have a lesson after work today. I'm sending out good vibes and saying extra prayers because I've worked so hard with this. I know I'm ready. Now that I've fixed my parallel parking issue the only real problem I'm getting is these nerves I get when the driving instructor gets in the car at the test site. Because after he gets in, I always mess up bc I'm so nervous

You’re so sweet. Yes, weight loss is high on my list, certain lifestyles don’t mix with my current state. I truly believe all is in my reach.

Manifest all that. You got this!

Ladies, I have some great news! I got my biopsy results today...IT'S NOT CANCER!!!
Now, I'm having to wait to see if I can get an ENT referral to see why I have so much trouble swallowing.

WHOHOO!! More celebration! :dance7:

I miss my pre-silk press hair. I'm trying not to be so sad at how skimpy my braids are. Please Lord, let me not resent the people who did my hair. Help me to fully forgive them. In Jesus name, Amen.

Whatever you do, don't cut it! We recovering scissor addicts can't afford to slip up!

You're planning to keep it braided up anyway so just do that and you'll have 4-6 more inches by this time next year! Increase your protein txs but make them lite protein. Maybe even incorporate some Ayurveda powders. Do you still have bottles of Surge? Didn't that work for you? I know MT makes my hair fuller so maybe whatever you already have in your stash will do the same for you. I'm hoping that over time your strands will start to recover.

took the day off from work. I'm getting my hair done next wednesday and will be celebrating getting my license next weekend by getting dinner and dessert.

In the new year, I want to try more flat twisted updos and quick protective styles. I get bored with just getting knotless braids all the time. I also want to do a no-heat challenge in 2024.

I won't cut it, I just need to stop looking in the mirror lol:yep::lol:

I'm pretty sure I saw a bottle, but knowing me I would have recycled the bottle. But if I did recycle the bottle I definitely would have modified it in a way that I know it's not the original product in it, just so I wouldn’t get confused. Which Ayurveda powders are good for lite protein?

Without hesitation, I'll say Brahmi. It's my favorite strengthener/conditioner. My daily leave in is a mixture of Cassia, Amla and Brahmi mixed into Suave Tropical Coconut with a few squirts of almond oil.

Speaking of Tropical Coconut... I just ordered two new bottles and, wow! They are now labeling the 22.5 oz as "Family Size" at $2. Family size used to be the 30 oz and that was the price for that size. So I'm gonna give up Suave Tropical Coconut on GP bc this is ridiculous! That has been my staple since 2009!! :cry4:
