Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

:lachen:

Yay, welcome to the fold! Texlaxing is my sweet spot! My fine, poofy/cottony, 4b/a hair was not going for WNGs without some pushback.:giggle: Texlaxing allows me to keep volume and improved styling options for me. When I do straighten it, I'm not as worried about reversion. Have fun! :)
I just wanted my scalp to calm down lol my natural hair coils up so tightly and it makes my scalp want to social distance itself. I thought it had finally calmed down because I had a week where it was just in ponytails and ponybuns and wasn't giving me an issue. I guess it changed its mind :lachen:

It's weird that braids or straight(ish) hair is the only thing that doesn't make me itchy. Out of all the years I've been doing my hair, I could never figure that one out. Now I gotta figure out what to do with my hair over the winter since that's the time I usually neglect it a little bit. Probably some type of wig or something that covers my head.

I hate my hair so much. I’m torn between wearing wigs or just giving up and relaxing it. Maybe I just need to cut it off and start over. I realize I feel like doing drastic changes when my hair is not in a bun but I’m having breakage with my bun now. Maybe some professionals done twists will be a happy medium? I need someone else to do this. I think I just need to fork over the money and let a professional do it.
:bighug:
I hope you find something that makes you happy.

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time with your hair.
In a perfect world, what would be your hair end goal?
Do you want the longest, healthiest hair you can grow?
Do you want the most styled, aesthetically pleasing hair?
Do you want the easiest to manage hair?

Right now, getting some twists done is probably a great idea, until you really figure things out.

I don't think I ever will honestly
Aww, don't speak such things over yourself. As a man thinks, so is he. Not calling you a man lol, but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. Maybe something is making you unhappy and and you're just taking it out on your hair like I do sometimes lol. Try a "separation" like braids or anything that will take your mind off your hair.

Adding in another ((BIG HUG))

Maybe now isn't the time to figure out what will make you happy w your hair.
Maybe now is the time to just find a quick style that you can rock to work and then slap on your scarf/bonnet when you get home and do something else non-hair related, like nails, skin, home projects or binge on a show.

Wet bunning or wigging are super neglect-friendly hairstyles that you can rock and not really think about your hair. Just water rinse/cowash and go until your scalp tells you to poo. You've got this!

I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope you are able to figure out something that makes you happy, or you are able to just hide it away and be happy.

I would like to style my natural hair in braids or twist with no extension hair but i want them to at least reach near my armpit when shrunken.

My hair goal is Tail bone length hair. I just want low maintenance hair. I don't like having to do anything more than 5 minutes to my hair. Style edges in the morning, moisturize in the evening. Wash and goes gave me low maintenance hair but my hair always flakes after a few days and i am forced to wash it every few days,.

So far I’m wearing wigs again and although I am feeling like they don’t look all that natural. the daily maintenance for wearing a wig is tolerable. I don’t want to feel like I have to hide my hair but I’m tired of dealing with the two textures. I think I’ll spend the coin for a professional braid down every 4 weeks

Knowing where you want to go is half the battle!! I understand not wanting to feel like you need to hide your hair, but think of wigs and braids as a tool in your tool belt! You're just taking a little hair vacay :yep:. You've got to do what's best for you in the here now, while keeping your long term goals in mind. Hugs!

I really love the simplicity of locs. I just spritz my hair and oil it at home; the loctician does all my retwists and styles. I love how easy it is to just get up and go all the time. I don't have to sit in the shop for hours anymore. Not to mention i've saved so much money. I love it here #locd&lovingit

Writing my thoughts down...

I have 4B/4C APL natural hair that hasn't been relaxed for almost 20 years. My hair has been cut in a tapered shape (grew out too fast), braids (too heavy/uncomfortable), straight-haired natural (breakage at new growth due to heat damage), and I am just exhausted with figuring things out with my hair.

I want to do something that cuts down on the time I spend on my hair. I'm in a professional setting for work and travel often, sometimes at the last minute. The last work trip I had to go from one country to the next without even stopping home to get more hair products. All my travel-sized products were done and I only had a carry-on. I was in the local pharmacy at 9pm trying to find the most moisturizing products so I could wash and bun my hair before my meeting the next morning.

I'm considering locs, but I'm not in a location where they can be retied and I don't think I have the time to do it myself. A relaxer is the next option. My scalp is super sensitive and I'll have to manage the irritation I get from relaxing.

@Miss_Luna

((BIG HUG)) It's a big decision.

Not sure how you feel about it but immediately, my thought was that if I were in your situation, I'd plait/cornrow my hair up and find 2-3 long wigs that I can bun for work and roll like that for a while until I've made a decision.

All you have to do is use a cheap moisturizing DC or cholesterol to braid your hair up, water rinse the braids in the shower once or twice a week (and maybe oil your scalp) and wash it weekly or biweekly IN THE BRAIDS. Redo your braids one at a time every two weeks on dry hair to remove shed hair and stay ahead of any matting. Take down a braid, remove shed hair, slather on DC and braid it back up. On to the next braid until you're done.

It's a travel proof type of style and your hair is long enough that you can bun your braids if you need to swim or something. By the time you've made a decision, a super simple regi like that will have you retaining a lot too ;) GL to you! :)

I didn’t have time to wash/cowash this weekend, but I was able to detangle, moisturize and plait my hair. I’ll be wearing the wig another 2 weeks. My weekends have been booked and busy. I won’t have a free Saturday until 8/19

I’m in a similar situation. Same hair type. I am currently wearing a human hair wig with bangs. I’m a straight hair natural in between salon appointments during the hottest summer on earth. This wig is saving my life! I’ve noticed that short synthetic wigs last a lot longer than the long ones. Human wigs are my favorite though. The flexibility is a blessing. Hairsisters.com has great synthetic wigs that are cute and inexpensive.

@MzSwift Thank you for the suggestion. I am so nervous with wearing a wig, but I think I need to consider this for work travel. I've never worn an actual wig before so I need to do the research now.

Work is slow during the summer, but I start back up traveling in September. Hoping to find a short-term solution before then.

Yes, the heat also makes me nervous with wigs. My hair is very thick and my scalp is the first thing that starts sweating. I feel like I'll just have sweat pouring from my edges if I wore a wig. I'm going to check out the site you mentioned and see if I can find one just to try out.

Maybe you can try a headband wigs that way at least your forehead can get some air lol

@Miss_Luna

I totally understand! I was nervous about rocking wigs at first too. lol. I'm still a bit old school with the way I wear mine. I don't use the combs that come w the wigs bc they can damage the hair over time. I usually bobby pin mine to my braids at least two pins on all four sides. Another way I've tried once in the past is to sew the wig down onto my cornrows and rock it like a weave. I used a synthetic kinky curly wig so I could just wake up and fluff and go. lol I loved it and I'm planning to do it over the winter to keep my hair protected.

ITA w the suggestions of starting off w a headband wig or a wig w bangs. They are the easiest bc they don't require as much/any blending. I have not ventured into any lace wigs yet bc I'm not skilled at or interested in learning how to properly glue/attach it and using makeup to make it look more realistic. The old school wigs are simpler to me. Just pin it on and go. lol

And if you cornrow your hair, that exposes the scalp more which helps it to breathe easier under the wig.

I just graduated to Glueless wigs after wearing half and headband wigs and I’m loving it. I bought a kinky curly bob and cut Some bangs and layers and it will be my every day wig from not on. I’m not pressed to make it look like it’s coming perfectly from my scalp but I fooled a lot of people already lol

Take that back. This is the first Houston Texans game of the season and I have to bartend. I’m not blowing out my hair to walk a mile at the stadium and sweat it out. I messed up and got my hair done the first day of Rodeo. Never again

I seem to have an aversion for wigs lately but I keep buying them because they looks cute in the pics. I don't want anything seating on my head blocking air. I miss the vented caps of old. Could be because it's summer and I sweat a lot. I will see if anything changes in the winter.
