Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

Does your scalp itch/tingle when your hair is in it's growth phase?

I watched a young lady on Youtube who kept her natural hair straight for 6 months. 6 months with no washing. She was proud of her length retention but her hair looked kind of awful :nono: Long hair is cool and all, but it ain't that deep

My scalp doesn't become itchy when my hair is growing. I will get a random itch here and there, but it won't be in an itchy state. That said, I would not wear my hair straight for 6 months without washing it, no matter how good it looked. I'd have to be going through a health priority, the zombie apocalypse or something serious preventing me from washing it.

My wash day isn't just for cleansing, even though I don't allow my hair or scalp to get very dirty. My wash day is also for moisture, removing shed hair, checking on my hair, relaxation, maintenance and treatments. For the way I like my hair to feel on a daily basis there is no such thing as a moisturizer or leave-in that can compete with a good wash day. So, I like to balance style, moisture, and health in my hair. I am probably a person who could successfully wear my hair straight for 6 months, but I wouldn't want to. Washing my hair and re-straightening it once a month gives me more control when I want successive straight hair and I enjoy wash days.

Conditioner hits differently on clarified hair lol. Leave-ins hit differently on dry hair that is internally supple. Raking through my hair hits differently when my hair isn't tangled, no matter if my hair is straight or natural lol. Styles lay differently as they age. My hair still looks great at the end of a press, one day before I wash it out. Heck, it still looked good at the end of 3 month window when I pressed my hair a few weeks before my daughter was born, had her, then looked up after more time than I planned passed and I said "Shoot I need to wash my hair!" However, how good it looks isn't all that matters to me in my hair routine. Neither is retention.

I am happiest when my hair looks good, feels good, and maintenance runs smoothly whether it is a shorter or longer length. I also like playing with my hair. So, styles or states just for retention don't appeal to me. I would not enjoy my hair if I only wore it in styles that targeted growth. Even though I am one of those people who can get away with damaging things like overextending a press, I prefer to replenish my hair proactively instead of responding to hair problems that get away from me(when possible).

When it comes to the girl who was happy with that regimen. That's on her. I know it wouldn't be a good fit for me and I wouldn't follow that method, but I am not clutching pearls either lol. I can vouch for the ways low manipulation, and leaving the hair alone aids in retention, but a 6-month press isn't the way I would voluntarily go about applying it because it would set the other areas I value out of whack.

So today wasn’t a hot mess, but my scalp is. I desperately need to shampoo and dc. My next hair appointment isn’t until 8/26 :(

changed my hair appointment. I now go on 8/23 for my retwist and style. I also watched the little mermaid yesterday with my mom and we really enjoyed it. Halle did a wonderful job and she gave a good performance. I also loved that Ariel had locs just like me!

I just love Chloe and Halle and the way they style their locs.

I'm not sure what my next loc style will be but I'm enjoying all the youtube and tiktok loc maintenance and loc detox videos.

if I would've known locs were this simple, I would've done this years ago.

Don't laugh at me y'all...on second thought, do what you want

But I was braiding down my hair the other night and I wanted to curl my ends. Problem was, I had no rods, it was too late so nothing was open, and I didn't want to spend the money anyway.

What did I do? I was in my mom's kitchen (she lives fairly close to me) and I started thinking: ppl used paper bags to curl their hair back in the day or so I heard. I decided to take a page out their book and use another paper product :abducted:It worked too. My mama said I was real ghetto for that and my kid asked me what was that in my head. Y'all know how teens are. Ain't no shame in my game, so I told him:lachen:

The important thing was that it worked, it was economical AND I'd do it again :yep::cool2::wacky:

This might be the key to having my braid-outs last longer. I get so hot I don't cover my head anyway
Thank God for satin pillowcases.
I think it's time for me to find a style to do. Just til it's time to straighten my hair. Now here comes the hard part, figuring out exactly what to do.:perplexed: I'm feeling kinda antsy with my hair out, like maybe I'm spending too much time on it again. Could just be my nerves since my hair hasn't felt this long or full in a long time.:nervous2::lol:

Time to go to bed Lucky.

@Miss_Luna
Have you considered a wash n go. I can get mine to last for a week and if I don’t have time to wash I can throw it in a puff or ponytail and last another week.
there’s a learning curve, but once you get it figured out it can be very low effort style.
I have worn wash n go's a few times but they were done professionally. When I've done them myself it takes about a day to air-dry.

I have a dyson blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. I can try that at home, but not when traveling.

I always diffuse mine, but I don’t travel often and I try not to do my hair on the road.
But if you style with mousse instead of gel your hair will dry quicker. But it also doesn’t last as long as gel.

I'm thinking of trying other Japanese/ Korean hair care products(shampoo and Conditioners) in my hair. I'm exploring that and some of the old stuff that "didn't work in the past" because I didn't know how to do things as well as I do now.

Let me know what you find. Korean skincare has been so great I’d love to know how their haircare is.
Do share what you found for skincare. So far, I found the &Honey Super Moisturising shampoo, Conditioner and oil amazing. The conditioner can double as a Leave in. I was thinking of starting an Asian skincare thread and an Asian Hair care Thread. I wonder what others are using.

I’m doing a prepoo on my ends with Morrocan oil deep conditioner. I’ll shampoo with Creme of Nature Argan oil and use Vo5 moisture milk as a final rinse. It’s so hot I may need to start doing this twice a week. My scalp was so sweaty this week

TYSM for reminding me to give my ends extra special care.

Also, I forgot to tell you how cute that wig was! I think I'm gonna sew down a wig with bangs this winter.

Thank you. I love this one, but it tangles so easily and it’s too thick. I’ll get some thinning shears to make it more manageable.

I’m from Rice Toner, anything beauty of joseon, etude house soon jung 2x barrier cream.

Taking a break from my hair and getting back to taking care of my nails has been good for me. The summer heat has been rough and it hasn't been practical to walk around with all my hair out. I'm super excited to get my braids done again this week. Going for blonde this time. Trying something new. :)
