Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

Baby, I'm finally about to sell this this Revair. Once I confirm it turns on, I'm posting it for sale. I've used it all of maybe 2 or 3 times. I still have the original box it came in, and an extra filter. As far as the instructions that came with it, the only thing I have is the quick start guide.

Whenever I go to TJ Maxx, I buy way too many products. Gonna have to figure out a way to use Olaplex and biosilk together.
First time using either one.

Okay… opalex could be bomb. I think I found my perfect hair wash day. Also convinced my natural hair stylist to let me bring my own products, so I will try this with her next time.

1. One quick clarifying wash
2. Opalex on damp hair 30 mins
3. Wash out with cheapie moisturizing shampoo
4. Use biosilk conditioner for 30 mins
5. Rinse that out
6. Deep condition with Kreyol Essence so deep/ Aussie Moist Deep Conditioner (1 hour)
7. Rinse out
8. Layer with Water, kinky curly knot today, shea moisture leave in, kreyol essence goat milk leave in
9. Add biosilk serum on top
10. Seal with Haitian black castor oil (the thicker the better.

It’s complicated, but it works because my hair has that “happy soft stretched waves” naturally happening every time unbraid it.

i think a simplified version with the most potent products would be:

1. Clarify
2. pre:treatment Hair Perfector
3. Wash: moisturizing / Kreyol essence long hair don’t care
4. Kreyol essence so deep
5. Kreyol essence leave in, kinky curly knot today, Haitian castor oil

You know your hair is long when you get queso in it. Yep, I was going in on dinner just now and I felt the drip of cheese. I looked down and it had fallen into my hair and on my shirt. I acted quickly and cleaned it before it cooled/solidified. I was NOT trying to wash my hair tonight :(

Doing these mini braids was like the best thing everrrrr:love: It's like the convenience of locs without the permanence. Why did I take so long to do them? My hair could have been 2 feet past my ankles by now.
This! I am on vacay at a water park and these mini braids are bomb! I wear them in different ways and they aren’t even frizzy with all of the water. I will be keeping them in braids for the foreseeable future

Anyone have a fav clip in brand? I will be starting my grad school intern soon and it will be in person sad but I know in Texas heat a wig will not be it.

I really love Hairsense combs. I started using these sometime between 2005 and 2008 and have never put them on the back burner or replaced the set (only added to it). They are seamless, heat resistant, extremely durable(I only broke one when I accidentally slammed it in a car door. It fell into the space the door closes into and when I closed the door it broke in half. However, I was able to file the broken edge and the broken comb still works great more than 15 years later). The rest are as good as new and darken into a pretty brown over time (similar to the way quality, well cared for leather gains a patina). The other combs or detangling brushes that have been great since my Hairsense collection, go along side my Hairsense combs, but they can't replace them. I have used hair tools that were just as good in quality, and some that had a function that was missing within my Hairsense collection, but I have never used another seamless brand that I liked better than my Hairsense combs... even if they looked exactly the same. I own most of the styles sold and have duplicates of my favorites.

I spoke to the owner and it kind of made me sad when she said her current inventory may be the last batch. Like many other businesses have reported, Covid has caused the main manufacturer of these combs to close, reopen then close again. I ordered the 222 super rake as a back up to the one I have owned for over a decade and noticed I was sent a smaller version of it in my order (the smaller bakelite version in black that stopped being sold on the site years ago). So, I thought it was a misunderstanding and asked the owner if it was in an email. She actually called me back on the phone and confirmed she sent me the smaller version because the manufacturer was closed, again, and she wasn't sure if they would reopen, but she had already refunded me and left me a note( which I overlooked but found once I was speaking to her).

I am glad there are many wonderful alternatives to our favorite brands. For example, when I couldn't get the larger super rake I was after, I decided to order the Kazmalaje(different brand) set that has been on my wishlist. Yet and still, this reminds me of when Kizure was out of stock all the time before they stopped selling their irons and pressing combs. There are usually alternatives that work well when a favorite brand of mine changes the item or stops selling it, but the alternatives aren't always as good as original staples. This is especially true for small businesses, boutiques, and family run companies.

In any case, I have my set and I have duplicates of my favorite Hairsense combs. I sure ordered a few more back-ups right after I got of the phone with the owner of Hairsense...lol. So, if they do end up closing or something weird happens to break a comb, my hair chest will remain what I need it to be. As I was writing this, I see the main site just went down(I was going to add the link to this post), but she still has a few of my favorite combs on her eBay page if you want to get one for your hair chest. I am not sure how much longer the option to buy will be available, if the manufacturer will reopen, if the main site is down for good or when the few listings that are left will be pulled. So, just letting anyone who is interested know. The pile to the right are duplicates of my favorites. The ones laid out are all different, some are similar, but they are slightly different in style(example both may be a fine-toothed rat-tail comb, but one may have a metal tail while the other may be all resin. Also the spacing between tines or length of tines may be different between combs that initially look the same. There are many, many, many brands that make very good seamless combs now. I just use Hairsense the most consistently and have been using this brand of combs the longest. Their combs are my personal favorite.

I have 23 of the types. The pile on the right contains duplicates of my favorites. The 23rd one, that is on the top left-hand side of the pile is a comb( Style 217) I accidentally mixed it in the duplicate pile, but it should have been pushed to the left to the laid out section. It is very similar to the one it is next to, but the teeth are shorter in length and the resin is thicker.

ETA 6/6:
Main site back up for now:https://hairsense.com/seamless-bone-combs-2/page/2/
Current version of 201 and 207 can snag on the second to the last tine if not filed. I have them and was able to file them to still use, but would not order the current inventory in that style because of that unusual defect. 222 was out of stock as of this weekend, despite it showing in stock on the site. I recently ordered the 202, clipper comb, 205s*, 209*,2099*,212,2177, 213* and 205* without issue. Once I found out the supply issues, I decided to get the few I was on the fence about, while I still could and duplicates( duplicates denoted with the *) of the some of the ones I liked that were still in stock.

thank you for this info, I’ll be purchasing a new set of combs soon.

Going to get my hair done this weekend. It's been over a year since my last trim, so it is overdue. I'm so close to BSL but my ends are a mess. I hope and pray they don't chop my hair off at this appointment.

I ended up cancelling this and booking with a different stylist who I feel more confident in. Have to wait until the end of the month but I'm looking forward to it. In the meanwhile, I ordered a new hd lace wig since I think I am going to try wigs as my long term protective style. Sadly, I don't think my edges can handle the knotless braids.

Almost 1 year post chemical. It has been pretty smooth since I switched to protective styling. IDK what was wrong with me last year. I thought 3b/3c curls would look more flattering. I've come to realize that its length not texture that is the true issue for me. I would have retained more length had i not fallen for the internal texturisim. I look at old pictures of my natural hair and it looks pretty all on its own. Lesson learned. I am not going back to relaxers, keratin treatments hair botox or anything else. Just letting this mess grow out and relearning my natural texture once again. My hair is also the longest its been since I stopped messing with the chemicals. That stuff just eats my hair up. Now that im wearing braids with my own hair i have all of the freedom of braids and i still get to see some texture come through on the ends. its a win win style right now!

Just added a pic of my short natural hair
