To relax or not to relax....8 weeks post and 15 weeks of underprocessed roots before that...surprisingly I'm managing well BUT I'm craving that freshly relaxed feel and I don't want to be underprocessed this next TU :sekret: not to mention I want a length check:look:

what caused the tangles? did you use a detangler to remove the tangles? was your hair wet or dry? what style was your hair in before you started to detangle? i am thinking about getting that Mane and Tail Detangler.

This last stretch almost took me out and it was my usual 12 weeks. The tangles were indescribable. I think every strand in my head decided to tangle up. It took 3-4 hours to detangle the last two weeks. That was hell. So I can just imagine trying to go longer. #Shudders

I relax once or twice a year. Usually at 6-10 months. I hide my hair most of the time though.
For the ladies having issues with detangling, it's the shed hair at the root causing your problem.

You can't wait 1-2 weeks to go through your hair at 10-12 weeks post. It doesn't work. The shed hair mixed with two textures =nightmare.

If you do wait a week or more-----Spray your roots with some glycerin and rosewater. (avaialble online or at any healthfood store). Do this the night before to soften your roots. Then remove shed hair in the morning with an oiled wide tooth comb and apply oil to your hair for slip if needed.

You should comb your hair out to remove shed hair at least once a week. No longer than that.

eta-- no judgements here, i learned this the hard way after waiting almost 2 weeks to comb out my hair during a long stretch:nono:

10-12 weeks. My last stretch I went 15 weeks and it got WILD. My new growth kept matting together trying to create freeform dreads. I'd regularly sit while watching tv and run my hands through my hair finger detangling one strand at a time. And I know my problem is what havilland said...shed hair. I shed like a motha on a regular basis so all that shed hair was getting trapped, causing knots and ruining my life.

So far 12 weeks has been working for me. I just realized that I have to use more moisture deep conditioners. If I use a protein conditioner I have to follow with something that is really moisturizing to avoid tangles.

Every 9-10 weeks, anything after 10 and he** breaks loose. Last TU I just got busy with life and couldn't get to it until 11 weeks, and I lost too much hair. I have made it up to 13 weeks before, and that also was a disaster. 9-10 weeks is the sweet spot for my hair.

This is going on the third yr I've been relaxing every 6 months. Before LHCF I was relaxing 6-8 wks.

Every 10-12 weeks for me. Everytime I stretch longer than that I end up getting breakage and SSK's which results in more damage than growth and defeats the benefit of the overall stretch because I end up losing more than I gain.

To the ladies having issues with stretching due to detangling, I highly suggest the Remington Tangle Tamer (not to be confused with the "tangle teezer" or the "denmam tangle tamer" brush).

This thing changed my life!! I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but all I can say is... try it & you'll understand.

It's basically a huge, electronic wide toothed comb. Idk how it works, but it gently (and painlessly) detangles hair. It does all of the work for you & only removes shed hair. I can't live without mine.

Usually you can find it for less than $20 on Amazon.

ETA: Don't be deterred by the little YT girl on the cover of the package. I was. I was thinking *sucks teeth* this ish ain't gonna work in MY hair! :look: ... But it does. It works so well!!

I made a post about this sometime last year and got attacked for some odd reason by some of the sisters here. Guess they thought I was lying?? Anyway, I don't use anything else but the Tangle Tamer on wet and dry hair. The thing has been a miracle for me. I went back and ordered two more, just in case they discontinue the item or something. Glad you like it too!

I just ended a 15 week successful stretch. I'm just going to go as far as I can comfortably go with this next stretch. As soon as I see breakage or other problem, I'll relax.

The longest I've ever gone was 9 weeks because of surgery. My new growth comes in fast. I typically book hair appts every 7 weeks, but if the timing is off then 8 weeks. I use Affirm mild.

I have been mildly texlaxing every 14-16 weeks so I voted for 13-15 weeks since I don't go as long as 18 weeks anymore - it causes too much breakage for my beautiful fine hair.

I'm natural now, but I used to do every 3-4 months before LHCF. Got up to six months while being here.

Normally every 4 months, but right now I haven't had a relaxer since July 2011. I did have a problem with detangling my hair but I think it was because I used to much protein.

Ever 6-8 weeks.

Before I relaxed every 8 weeks but now I pay for my own relaxers.

I don't stretch relaxers, it's not for me and I don't see any benefits. If I do stretch it's because I'm in braids.

I was doing four month stretches but the breakage was insane. I'm scaling it back to 3 months :yep:

My frequency may change since i used Lineage Shea Butter relaxer for the first time and had excellent results. I stretched to minimize damage from relaxers but with Lineage i have experienced very little breakage or dryness. By far an excellent relaxer for my hair.

After about 15 weeks I start getting breakage and shedding so about every 3 months (10-12 weeks) has been working great for me.

I voted every 10-12 weeks... But really right now the max I can do is 11. Hopefully one day I can get to 16 like some of you ladies.
