Hi. I am new here. I have been lurking for a few weeks. These forums have been very helpful. Just so much information at all at once.

My question on new growth. I read, can't remember the thread, that new growth should not be comb out. Is there a reason for this? I always try to comb mine out. I don't do much with my hair. I wear it in a ponytail most of the time. Every week or so I wash it. Relax it every 3 to 4 months. Is the main reason breakage?

Also, I see most people here put oil on their hair. I never put oil on my hair. The main reason is I have acne-prone skin. Are there any oils that don't affect acne-prone skin? Is there such a thing?

thanks

I don't ever comb my ng. Detangling twice a week with Cream of Nature ensures I don't have to. You risk breaking the hair at the demarcation line when you comb your ng. The oil seals in your moisture. You just need to oil the ends of the hair. I use Castor oil which is quite heavy. Others I know use Amla oil which they say is quite light. Just make sure you clean and moisturise your skin twice a day and you'll be fine. I have oily acne prone skin too.
Hope this helps:yep:

Welcome, janee!:welcome:

I comb my hair with a Jilbere shower comb, only after it has been washed and deep conditioned, which is once per week; I never comb dry hair. When combing, I avoid the new growth by combing just below the demarcation line, where relaxed hair and new growth meet, because this is probably the weakest point of the hair strand. Putting too much pressure on it could result in breakage.

I too have oily, acne-prone skin, and I use a variety of oils on my hair, including olive, coconut and castor oil. To avoid breakouts, I wash my face twice per day and change my pillowcases regularly; this has worked for me.

Welcome! I agree with the others: I never comb my dry new growth cuz of breakage. I detangle once a week after washing. I have very oily acne prone skin that is now flawless (thank God!) and I use wide variety of oils, castor, jojoba, emu, etc. I wash twice a day, and wear styles so that hair does not touch my face. I ALWAYS tie my hair up at night, I did this even before the hairboards cuz didn't want hair products to rub onto pillows to rub into face while sleeping. Now I know tie up also good to keep hair from breaking during sleep so 2 good reasons to tie up at night.

Welcome again!

thanks everyone for your replies. I will try to put oil on my hair. Hopefully it doesn't make me break out.

thanks
