Okay, that's it. I'm going to try to switch to lye next relaxer. I'll try to make this next stretch longer than usual to avoid any mishaps.

I'm gonna try Affirm Fiberguard Lye, Vitale, or ORS Lye, whichever one you ladies say is best of the three, lol.

I read up on the 2 different types before getting a relaxer and found that the no-lye was very drying and I would be harder for me to keep it moisturized so I went with the lye.

I def prefer no-lye. Lye tears up my scalp even when my scalp is based thoroughly and if I add oil to the conditioner.

I also think lye is good for textlaxing if that's the look you are trying to achieve.

I <3 Lye! Growing up I used no lye cause thats what the stylists used for me, but my hair was always brittle. In Jan 2010 I tried lye, and the results were amaizng, def not going back. It is stronger, it takes less tiem for me to process, but its good cause my hair is usually really resistant

Ditto! I've used Affirm no-lye in the past; my recent touch-up was with Affirm Fiberguard lye and I've noticed a huge difference between the two:yep:!

that's funny, I've had the exact opposite experience, the fiberguard had my hair extremely dry and underprocessed. One touch-up with the no-lye and my hair was totallly changed.

I've switced to Lye for the last two relaxers, no-lye made my hair stringy and over-processed, makin me want to cut it everytime it gets to SL. Plus it was always dull looking unless it had a tonne of oil sheen on it, which made wash n go's look awful. I have also started self relaxing, so it may be that I do a better job with it than any hairdresser ever did, which is why my hair has regained thickness and no longer looks like it needs to be chopped off now that I am grazing SL

I use Phyto Relaxer Index II which is a no-lye relaxer. To combat the dryness, I use a LOT of products with ceramides and Joico Chelating shampoo.

when i was relaxed, i used no-lye. i heard not too long ago that lye's are better but my mother always told me that no-lye was a better choice. maybe because it isn't as strong? idk. i doubt she looked at ingredients so she wasn't aware that the lye ingredients are better (at least from what people are saying). i never had a problem with no-lye though. my hair was always moisturized (until i went to college). i stuck to an olive oil spray so my regimen was very very minimal (shampoo, conditioner, and the spray). so i can't attest to the negative affects of no-lye but since most people have had bad experiences, i think it's best for people to choose lye first

I always used No-Lye, I didn't experience any dryness or brittle hair, I used Lye but my hair didn't feel right and it made it dry, But I am dying to try Mizani Butter Blend Relaxer LOL!!

Before LHCF, I was doing fine with Dark and Lovely no-lye. Then I got here and started listening to ann of the rave about lye, and I switched to Mizani lye mild. That was the WORST thing I could've done!

That stuff assasinated my edges, and annihilated my nape! :killlurk:

I'm glad I stopped before it obliterated all of my hair.:gunner7:

I'm back with Dark and Lovely now, and my hair is getting better and better.
