or who doesn't have your hair type or your desired hair?

I will be honest. I will take hair advice from people who don't show pics if the information is reasonable and makes sense to me.

I will also take good advice from people who are not a 4a/b but not really on the hair styling tips. I know it will take a lot more to get my hair the way I want it.

Some things that are universal I don't mind like, more moisture or something. But I will be honest, product recs, I usually go for the 4's or 3 naturals (and above).

What about you ladies?

I will and have taken advice from pple w/o pics. (maybe because for awhile I didn't have an album myself), but I do get more excited about this hair thing when there are visuals to go along w/the text.
When I first came to LHCF I took advice from almost everybody, , combined them together and along w/some trial and era I found my own regimen. Even if I didn't use the exact products they used, the technique it self was what made a big difference for me.

Honestly, I'll take hair advice from people w/o pics, but not from people who do not have my "desired hair".
:sekret: I'm going to admit smthg else and I know I'm going to get stoned for it, but that is how I feel about self-relaxing. :ohwell: I've taken advicfe on self-relaxing before and it didnt turn out good at all. I dont blame anyone on the board for that. :nono: I just didnt do a good job and I need more practice. :yep: But in general, I think that hair looks better when people get it relaxed by someone else (professional or non-professional). :yep: I believe it's possible for someone to self-relax with great results, but that would probably take A LOT of practice and I might possibly ruin my hair in the meantime.

I will take hair advice from someone that does not have pics but I do look at their hair type to see if its close to mine for product recommendations (for example relaxers and conditioners)

Don't get me wrong, I love to see pictures but I take advice from anyone on board that has had an experience with an item I want to purchase or an item I have purchased in the past. Maybe its the pj in me, but I'll try a product based solely on the reviews on this board:lol: . So far, so good:kiss: However, there were a few things that didn't work for me like i thought, so I have revamped my routine to suit me. I don't know where I would be without LHCF ladies!;)

I agree with your post, especially with the bolded. I sometimes give advice although I don't have pics. I'd hate to think that someone will disregard what I have to say cuz I don't have a pic up. :ohwell:

People w/o pix DO have voices, y'all!

cosigning on da voices!! :D

I have no problem taking advice from people without pictures as long as the advice seems reasonable and sound for my hair. I won't, however, usually heed product recommendations from people who don't have 4a-b textures. That's the only thing, though. I'll take tips on techniques from anyone - I learned about mesh rollers from Albane, who has type 2-something hair and about color from Tracy, who has 3-ish hair. So it's all good, but for me to try out a product, it has to be recommended by someone with hair texture approximating mine.

You know I heard a lot of people feel that way. And I can truly feel where you are coming from.

I don't know, for me my hair looks A LOT better when I relax it versus any stylist (expect this one stylist from Atlant, OMG he was the truth!).

I was one of those people who was in the salon every two weeks. Though it looked pretty it never grew past shoulder. Then outta being broke I started to self relax. Girl, I'll tell ya my hair relly improved.

It's just that I (IMO) really don't think any stylists really care about your hair when it comes down to it, unless he/she is a family member. I think they only care about 1. your money and 2. the aesthetic of hair-just making it look good for a week or two since they know you will come running back.

But I don't think the way you feel is uncommon. I used to feel the saaaame way girl.

In general yes, but anything regarding curl definition or laying down the edges etc...I need to see pics and they would have to have my hair type. I mean, some with looser hair types can put water and it would lay their edges down so its pointless for me to run out and get it, pictures or no pictures.

I have taken advice from folks w/o pics, although it depends on the advice. And I usually take advice from folks in this order:
-People who follow similar product regimens (like no silicones, no sulfates)
-Who have similar hair texture (not necessarily similar curl pattern)
-Who are trying to achieve a similar style (like if they're straw setting kinky natural collarbone length hair, I'm going to pay a lot of attention).
-Anyone whose hair advice/techniques have proven solid in the past.

It's kinda funny, I don't have pics but I voted No. I mean I read what all of your ladies say, but when it comes to you luscious haired ladies I actually print out some of your advice and keep it in a special folder I have just for hair tips. Your hair is proof you know what you're talking about, and honestly, I totally would understand if someone didn't really jump out of their seat over my comments, because I don't have pics to prove I know what I'm talking about.

Great hair and great thread Mizani

ITA with this! I think my hair "looked" better when I used to get it done at the salon (meaning, it was straighter, swingier, smelled like the salon, etc.), but it was thinner, shorter, and had hardly any volume or life. I get that many people like that "fresh from the salon" look, but you are so right about many stylists going for looks over health.

On topic: I will take advice from people without pics, but not on hairstyling and things like that. Mostly just product reviews.

I would take advice from someone without pic if the info sounds reasonable but I wouldn't take advice from someone if their hair didn't look desirable to me.

I did! :D

But only after lurking for a bit and seeing that you knew your stuff. There wasn't a lot of 'I think' and 'you might want to try'.... you said 'this is what you need, I recommend, thus, and you need to do so'. I hadn't seen a photo till after I followed your advice, which has already changed my hair.

I'm new so I have much to learn, however when I come across a thread that interests me I'll look at how people respond and if i like something someone said i'll look at their info/picture to see if they match me. If there's no pic, i'm disappointed. Sometimes i'll take the advice if more than one person concurs.

I take advice from people without pictures, but the advice is more...concrete when they have picture to go with it. Not to verify that they have hair, just to see if their hair is like mine, or close to it, and therefore rather or not the products would be good for me. I normally lean towards those that are 3c-4a and medium textured. If someone is 3b and they have found their miracle product, I probably won't try it, same for 4b.

I also will take advice from people w/o pics if the advice is reasonable, and especially if they have a similar hair type.

i agree with the bolded parts. i'll admit i don't take advice or product recommendations from people who don't have type 4 hair. i feel it's a waste of time for me JMO.

Ditto! Also, I'm always interested in anyone's product reviews.

I take product rec's from people with my hair type mostly (4a/b). I have no problem taking advice from people w/o pics, though.

As long as the information was coherent, I would take advice from people w/o pictures. Not everyone is techno savvy, or has access to a camera, so I would be wrong to hold that against them. I could also take product recommendations from someone without my hair type. If I was interested in the product, I'd take the full review from anyone. Hair is hair to me.

OMG?! Curvy??? Is that you?????

Hiiiiiiii! I didn't know you were here (TellTell).

If the advice sounded reasonable it wouldn't matter if the person had pictures. However pictures are the icing on the cake for me. I just love looking at pictures of lovely healthy hair.

I would also take advice from someone with a differnt hair type from mine. Some things are just good ideas in general.

You know what? I never really thought about it that way but it doesn't matter to me. I haven't gone into anyone's hair album (with the exception of few posts that were like "hey, look at my album" or "look at this lady's hair") in over a year...maybe close to two years.

Maybe since I don't really have pics (I started a Fotki but never really got it together) I felt like it was unfair, somehow, for me to be able to see their hair but they can't see mine.

Pics or no pics, you still have to use your best judgement when taking advice or reading a product recommendation.

I completely disregard product recommendations from people without albums and folks with a different hair type from me.

I'll take styling techniques/tips from anybody as long as they sound reasonable.

Even if the person does not have my hair type we are good to go. That does not mean you will try everything that is recommended to you but you will all the advice and figure out what's best.

Mizani I used to feel the same way before I joined this site!!!!! I also used to get my hair done every two weeks and would think that people doing their own hair must be crazy because there is no way you can have that salon look at home. However after luring for a weeks then joining I have learned such valuable info and my hair is thriving. My hair was not damaged or anything before I jsut felt that I could not take care of it by myself.

I attempted my first self relax about a month ago and this weekend I was out and someone actually asked where I got my hair done (4 weeks post). I felt great:D I mean I feel such accomplishment!!!!!!
