Paging those who keep Hair Journals

Hi Ladies

AngieK's post about Changes to your regime made me realize that although I have regularly changed my regime, I don't know over time what the effects of those changes were, or if I've made the same mistakes twice.

For those that keep hair journals, I was curious of the following:

How has this helped you meet your hair goals?
How often do you record entries?
What format do you use (written, table form...etc)?
Where do you think you would be w/o recording your progress?

Thanx in Advance!!!

This has helped with my hair goals because I know exactly what I've done so if I'm having any problems it's easy to pinpoint the cause and vice versa if something's working well, I know why and what it was.

I record whenever I wash or if I forget I'll do it after the wash day, but I 'm usually recounting my wash. I also do it when I get a touch-up.

I have an online journal.

If I hadn't been using my journal I wouldn't know what works for me exactly and why I'd still be doing a lot of trial and error. It's helped me pare down my routine.

I just recently started mine.

In it I keep pictures, product reviews, info on hair buddies, inspirations, hair tips and tricks etc. I keep it all together in a 1 inch binder with pocket seperaters. Whenever there is something on the board that is interesting to me or something I need to remember I put it there. It does save a lot of timme on having to do searches for things. I just open up my book to the section I want and viola! I don't write in it everyday, just as needed.

I started my hair journal last october when my hair problems started. I write a monthly recap of everything significant about my hair along with the products that i use (which shampoo's etc.)

Then LondonDiva created this wonderful chart on excel, splendid chart i must say. I use this chart and I still write my monthly recaps in my journal. I also started a binder this summer where I put important info I find on the board i

I post online journals make note of the effect of products on my hair how to perfect my methods, my hair care list vitamins and their effects, notes from the board, things my hair dislike. how my hair reacted to different weatheretc

Kaela,

When I was growing out my hair, I simply added entries in my regular life journal which I have been keeping since age 12 or so. I took the opportunity to rant about individual problems, frustrations. I did not use it as a "product review." I think it's fine if that helps you, but I think it contributes to trying anything and everything, especially in the beginning.

You should take the opportunity to write about FEELINGS and mainly to keep yourself centered. In addition to rants, it can be extremely rewarding to write about milestones, serious progress, even if in the scheme of things, it is small. Those small things add up over a period of time.

I took the opportunity to use an online journal to write about things in the hair and skin vein which I have accumulated over a very long period of time now. I've found it personally rewarding. I try to add entries when I have time.

I've found this period most recently TRULY enjoyable writing about all the oils I've used and how and just experiences I've had with myself and others which seemed remarkable to me.

A hair journal or diary should be for you and to frame as you wish.

Much Love,

Jade

P.S. If you start one, be sure to give me the link!

DSD, I like that idea of a binder. I might supplement my online journal with something more comprehensive like that.

This way you don't have get online to get a piece of quick info unless it's not in your journal.

This sounds good. Often, a product or product combo will work differently depending on how new my touchup is. I try so many combos at different times that I dont remember/realize which product is making the difference. If I recorded everything I did on which date, then I could develop a regime for each week....

I keep an excel file as well. I maintain it daily.

My tabs are as follows:

Products
Trim Dates
Supplements
Color Dates ( I do my own hilights and clear rinses)
General Notes (Mini Journal)
Touch Ups
Wish List
Lotus Powder Dates

Daily Regimen (I indicate what I do to my hair each day...rinse, airdry, yada yada)

Growth chart

I've been keeping a 'hair binder' since I joined my very first internet hair care club (back in 2000 - the infamous BHSGO). I have information about my current hair care products, vitamins, skin care information and even some of the 'good, valuable' posts. I also have a chart / calendar from each year (2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003) that indicate when I got relaxer touch-ups, trims and hennalucent treatments. I like to keep track of everything.

I think it's pretty neat to have a 'hair binder'.
