Ladies with long thick hair does your hair feel heavy? No offense, but some people hair look like it has pounds on them. It looks like it will hurt your neck. I am just asking cause I am very curious. Oh, does it take forever to shampoo and style your hair? I may want to try to achieve a new goal for my hair(waist length), but I am also scared of dealing with a lot.
 
well when I had waist length hair (a couple of weeks ago LOL) it didn't feel heavy unless I had a towel or a turban wrapped around it to dry after a shower.
 
Same here towels drive me crazy but have to use them. My hair holds lots of water, which is why I switched to the absorbant towels.

Never really felt or feel heavy to me. Now when I use to add extension hair or braids, yes absolutely extra weight.
 
Well I don't have waist length yet, but i will speak on behalf of my friend.....she has waist(almost tailbone length) and she says every now and then her hair is heavy....but she is short, but she won't cut her hair, so it doesn't bother her..
 
My mom's hair was waist length when we were growing up but she cut it down to less than an inch because it was so heavy it'd give her headaches and hurt her neck
 
As I have been transitioning when I wash my hair in the shower it feels heavier from before but nothing serious.
 
My hair feels heavy when wet. Even putting my wet hair up in a pony tail will give me a headache and cause a lot of tension. I've gotten neck pain from wearing my wet hair up. My dry hair isn't so bad, but certain updos on dry hair can hurt too.

My hair doesn't take forever to style or shampoo. I would think longer hair is easier to care for than short hair, because it doesn't require as much styling and you can easily just put your hair up if you're having a bad hair day.
 
I'm only at MBL, but I'll chime in anyway. To a certain extent, yes, it feels heavy when wet but not really; because I didn't wake up with hair at that length overnight, I think it gave me time to gradually adjust to the extra length, its weight, and the styling/maintenance accommodations that would be required. I don't find it to be a bother at all.
 
Yes, it's really heavy especially when wet.
Putting my hair in a wet bun is a no-no. It will weigh my head down and hurt.
 
When my hair was longer and thicker, it was extremely heavy when wet...i hated to pick my head up from the shampoo bowl, and i'd have to hold my hair on top of my head, or else i'd have a headache...
 
yes hair is heavy.....at least mine was.

my hair was passed bra strap length (back half when stretch) bra strap length (front half of my hair) i'm natural.
i just cut my hair to neck length last Sunday and i plan on cutting it again this Sunday as soon as i buy these $50.00 scissors.

long hair is a pain and cost money to keep up with.....i had to condition wash everyday to be able to get a comb through.
i used half a bottle of conditioner with every condition wash.
which means my hair was wet ninety-nine percent of the time.

my damn scalp was hurting......had to comb in sections.....wore two loose pony tails and the weight of my hair pulled on my edges.

i have not let my hair get this long since Junior High.
i'm sorry but all that hair is too much for me to take care of.

i love my hair short and i'm free.

adding......when your hair is natural it's easy to have a certain length without even knowing.
example my hair was way past bra strap length...however do to my hair not hanging down or growing down....it never look the length it really was.

i will be growing my hair out....but to a decent length for me....which is maybe arm pit or a little past shoulder length.

I don't think my hair is "long", but no it doesn't feel heavy. I'm about an inch away from waist? I think because the growth is so gradual that I get used to it. I imagine if I chopped everything off, I'd notice a difference.
 
My hair is not particularly long, but it is coarse and it does feel heavy when wet. When I BC'd, one thing that struck me was how light my head felt.

The first day of wearing my bun my hair is wet and it's heavy. I use to keep headaches. Now Im kinda use to the weight.

Oh, I'll admit it's lengthy. And I'm proud of the length I have (no one's gonna accuse me of false modesty!) But, I grew up around long haired people, so to me my length isn't "long".

I'll be happy when I'm at about tailbone.
 
Yes but like someone up thread mentioned, since the hair doesn't grow long overnight, you just get used to it and compensate or make adjustments.

I guess it goes with the territory.

I don't think natural hair weighs enough to make your neck cave in. The only time my head hurts is when I wear my pony tails or french rolls too tight.

Now before I leaned to grow my own hair the weaves were heavy, itching and hurting so bad I could only wear it for about a week.

I got my hair braided and it was shear torture I had to have them taken out the very next day b/c they hurt and itched so bad.

In my experience my natural hair poses no problems at all. It is so much easier to care for than short hair.

I am proud to have hair that is now past waist length (updates coming soon) because Inever thought I would have it.

Depends on the style. Straightened hair, high pony's w/straight hair, high buns, wet/damp puffs or any wet hair period is really noticeable.

I have a 3 big twists pulled back with a ponytail elastic right now and I can definitely feel the weight of the hair. I just grabbed them up so the weight was in my hand and not my neck and you really do feel the difference. Never actually paid much attention to it til now.

Now I'm wondering how those with super long hair manage it. :grin:

These are the only times I've noticed my hair feeling heavy. If my hair is out in a puffy twist out or in twists, it does not feel heavy. I think that's because the weight of it is distributed all over my head. When I concentrate all the hair into one spot as with a single ponytail or bun, it can feel a bit on the heavy side. I feel the weight at that one spot.
 
Updos and buns create tension on my hairline, and I only have waist length hair - so, I can imagine ones with hair longer and thick.
