I got my hair straightened. And everybody thought it looked nice. Of course I got the whole you should keep it like that from my mother. I told her I would if she offers to pay $50 for me to get it done every two weeks. Hell No I'm not wearing my hair straight all the time. I didn't cut it all off for nothing.

i had it pinned up when everyone got there so it wouldn't get in the way while i was finishing getting everything ready... when i did let it down, my grandma oohed and aahed and questioned me if it was real... that caught me off guard until i realized that i hadn't worn it straight around her since before i bcd over 2 years ago, so that was understandable...

my uncle stood back and grinned all hard talking about "that's how i like to see a woman's hair. girl that's just beautiful. you look so beautiful.".. now me and this uncle have never really seen eye to eye and i always felt that he didn't like me, so on the one hand, i appreciated the compliment... on the other, i was like dang, so what do i look like when i leave it curly...

and one of my sister's friends came in and immediately ran her hand through my hair cuz it was her first time seeing it straight...

i'm waiting for today's reaction - when my "friend" sees it straight for the first time...

Well, everyone didnt get to see it yet but we are having a big family thing today so they will but....

My mom thought it was fake....

My sister talking about how jealous she is and she wants to start lurking on LHCF...

An old flame tugged it a bit and said, "Uh, Long?" I said, "Yeah, I guess, I decided to grow it out and stop cutting it off."

yes keep it coming.

I didn't go home or press my hair out so no one knows how long my hair is yet, I think I will wait until Easter to show everyone how long it has gotten.

when i decided to cut of my locs on Jan 21, 2006....this is when hell broke loose :lachen:

i use to wash my hair everyday, because even when natural, i did the same thing. So my roomate use to act funny like, "black people cant wash there hair everyday because the water will DRY the hair out". :look:....mind you she might have had a total of 14 strands of hair.

still i washed my hair, put in conditioner, DC and all that great stuff...i wasnt even really trying to GROW my hair out, i just couldnt stand the extra short hair.....i always keep my hair up, so when i finally wore it down, i heard all the "damn girl your hair is "Long"...lines......i knew my hair was getting long because the same "friends" wouldnt even compliment me anymore, they would just stare at my hair when others complimented it....

mind you i was never selfish with my hair advice, i would share like crazy, take them to Sallys with me, offer to do their hair for free. I wanted us as girlfriends to have long hair together..but i couldnt get the information i was was telling them to stick, so i gave up, i let them do their own thing.

now everyone, comes to me for advice, because i have surpassed all of my female friends in hair length, and i started off with NO HAIR!...so sad...

my mom is my biggest supporter, everytime i call she says..in her guyanese accent..."It reach your bra yet?" :lachen:..people at my church are too touchy feely in my hair, so sometimes, i have to snap my head back when they have their fingers all up and through it...but for the most part they were in shock!

so i guess the reactions have been what i expected..my hair is so healthy, full, lush but not LHCF "long".....im very pleased...if they are jealous now..wait till im MBL :yep::lachen:

they still cant figure out how i had locs, cut them off, and grew it this "long" in less than 2 years..

Dh's family has never seen my real hair. I used to keep it weaved up, and now I keep it in a bun. I blowdried and flatironed for Thanksgiving and everyone kept asking if it was a weave. They all kept wanting to see it and feel it, told me how soft and thick it was and how long it was. I'm not even APL yet and I would never consider my hair long, but I guess IRL standards are different than it is here :) It felt good to get so many compliments, I can't wait till I get to BSL

It was raining/snowing on Thanksgiving so I had it pinned up (nothing fancy). It was up until I was about to go home. I went to get my comb and hair net so I could wrap it and put on my hat for the outdoors. My uncle starts to call me out after I took down the hairclip. My grandmother immediately calls me into the room because she wants to see my hair. Now Uncle and GM are oohing and ahhing asking "What have I done?" "What do I use?!" Growth potion? :look: I said no, I just stopped using hot irons and blowdryers. They said it looked as nice as it was when I was a child :yep:

In real life, shoulder length is usually considered long. :yep: To most black people anyway. :look:

"Girl, You done cut all your hair off AGAIN" "I wish you make up your mind if you are gonna go natural, relax, bald headed or long!"

My folks is a mess but I love 'em'

Great stories ladies. Keep em coming. I didn't go anywhere for thanksgiving and i had my hair up the whole time so no stories for me.

Thanksgiving eve, I trimmed an inch off due to thinning ends so my mom was like how's it going to get long if you keep cutting it..I rolled my eys, but after a fresh texlax and a body wrap, she said "wow, it's grown a lot" (this was after the 1 inch trim)

A lady at my brother's Thanksgiving dinner, asked me what I've been using. The only thing I could tell her was that I co-wash every 2-3 days. Thats the only thing I've been consistent with...I'm jumping back on my vitamins and MN though, when my birthday comes I hope to be close to APL.

I went home to visit my mom. I had decided the day before that I would take my braids out and leave them out for a while. My mom told me not to (because she had seen how damaged my hair was before). I told her I was taking them out and leaving them out regardless.

So I take the braids out, relax and curl my hair. My hair had gotten a lot thicker since the last time she's seen it out. I didn't relax my hair bone straight so it was pretty full. When I came downstairs she said, "Is that your hair?" I asked her, "Who's hair would it be?" We both about died laughing. I know she didn't mean it like that, but it took her by surprise. She said that it had gotten so much thicker and she was really shocked. She wanted to know what I had done to make it get so thick (like back when I was younger). I told her that I was just trying to take better care of it. She knows all about LHCF. LOL.

The only people who complimented my hair were my twin four year old cousins. :ohwell:

The boy told me, "Kiss-too, your hair is so smooooth!" And the girl said, "Ya! It looks like Bah-bee's (Barbie's) hair!" :yep:

:lachen: I thanked them and gave them lots of kisses. I don't get to see them much since I'm at school most of the year, but they are my heart :love3:

Everyone else in my family seemed more impressed with my sisters APL-length weave

I normally wear my hair in a ponytail...but I decided to wear it down and everyone gave me nice compliments on how well it has grown and how healthy it looks...I was even pleased with how well my hair moves and healthy it feels....

This is so sweet. Your little cousins have good taste. ;)

Well I went to visit my paternal grandmother in Jersey a few weeks ago & I was wearing a very full braid out - I love big hair. She asked me why would I walk around looking like that & when was I going to comb my hair. I told her that I was now natural & that this was the hair that God gave me. Grandma said, "Oh no, God didn't make your hair look like that!" Then I saw my maternal grandmother for the holidays & basically her response was the same - "What in the world is wrong with your head?" However, on a brighter note, my mom's friend pulled me to the side & said, "I know that's your hair, but do you know where I can get a wig like that?" :yep: That made my day.

That's cute!

My daughter in-law who is from Sweden and has beautiful, midback hair, saw my hair and she kept saying to me "mom, your hair is amazing. I love the color and the thickness and the length....oooohhhh, I love it" I told her about LHCF and she wanted to know could she join (I thought that was so cute). I told her to go onto Long Hair Community because there are mostly caucasions there who would give her some great advice...not that she needs it cause her hair is beautiful, but every girl wants her hair to be the best, right?:yep:

My lil sister (she's 16) thought I had on a wig. IDK why since I've never worn a wig or weave before in my life. But she said my hair strands look fake. She joked at one point and said she was going to cut my hair when I went to sleep because she is "jealous" of the swing. I told her not to be jealous because she could have hair like it too. Her hair has always been as long as mine if not longer.

Nice storeis ladies.

The cutest thing for me was when my aunt was giving me a scalp massage, her son asked, "Is that all her hair?" Cute.
