When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?

There's something unique to our situation different from people who plan to BC soon and different from women just starting out... so let's join forces.

Also, if you were part of the original thread, let us know whether you've done your BC so that we can go stalk your pics:grin:

I want to be a long term transitioner...maybe, possibly (either that or I'm stretching, haven't figured it out yet) I haven't reached a year yet but I still want to throw in my 2 cents :look:

1. for 6 months
2. never...? This is my second time around possibly being natural but my 1st priority is reaching WL. Once i get ther I will begin trimming bit by bit
3. 3c in the front and back 4b in the middle, 4a on the sides. Super thick and coarse strands and very dense
4. I have been baggying my hair. Gel the front baggy the relaxed ponytail with leave-ins and oils all that fun stuff and wear a phony afro puff over the baggy. When I want to wear my hair out (once in a while) I cornrow the roots and roller set the permed hair sit under dryer then flat iron roots.

How many months have you been transitioning? 13ish? I was 1 yr post on Jan 27th

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? Neva Evah? No, um....I think I may cut this summer. If I don't I know it will prolly next New Years for sure. I always do crazy things to my hair on New years.

What is your general hair type? 4 a/b. I think I might have some 3c in the veeeery back and around the edges/over my ears. (see my fotki for a few pics.

What has been your general transition method? Protective styling/low manipulation. Starting last summer I began experimenting with extensions which helped me a lot b/c my relaxed ends won't hold styles like my natural hair does. I did Cornrows for about 3 months (3 wks at a time) and then got my first full weave (on my second one now) this winter. Lots of DC and moisture. "Soft" proteins like Aloe Vera, SAA, Wheat germ Oil and I'm in love with ACV, Baking Soda/Salt (Kiya Fizzle), honey, coconut/vatika oil, castor oil, SMB and my Denman.

How many months have you been transitioning? 23

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? I thought about doing it next month, but now I'm leaning towards sometime during the summer.

What is your general hair type? 4a with patches of 3c

What has been your general transition method? Weekly deep conditioning, straightening when I feel like it, braidouts

Can I get a 15 day pass, Mooks? I'll be a year by March 21st. My transition has been eased by acceptance of the demarcation line and its fragility. I accepted the sometime breakage when I realized that the relaxed ends were not my main objective, my new, natural roots were. I focused on health with co-washing, deep conditioning, gentle combing and not being so scared of Denman brusing with conditioned hair in the shower. Eqyss Avocado and Megatek help a lot as well as deep conditioning with ORS Replenishing-I use Cowboy Magic conditioner and the detangler, many ORS products too. I braid or twist my hair, wear wigs Mon-Friday.
I thought I'd chop in April but see now I can continue to do light trims without BC'ing. Products above and patience are my keys. Hair type 4b with middle of my hair in the back 4a.

How many months have you been transitioning?

Since August 2007 so 18/19 months

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?

I plan on holding out until at least August 09, but if I can, I'd like to "BC" (or SC - Small Chop) on December 31, 2009 and start 2010 all natural.

What is your general hair type?

I dunno. I"m bad at that. I'd say 3c/4a, but I'm not sure because when I look at some people's hair, they say they're that texture but their hair looks so different from mine.

What has been your general transition method?

Braidouts mostly, maxigliding straight this past winter, now on a bunning kick.
But braidouts have my heart. Easy and so cute!

Wow Mook I've been watching your progress (no stalker) since your early months. I dont know how much longer Im going to be able to hang in here before I BC but 22 mos is pretty dang impressive.
How many months have you been transitioning?
very close to 15 mos.

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?
I wanted to go for at least a 20 month transition but Im super bored with this transition phase..so Ill see.

What is your general hair type?

4a, me thinks.

What has been your general transition method?
bunning. braidouts. singles. flatwist outs. perm rod ponytails.. I have a very simple no fuss regimen.

whats helped me the most has been oil rinses, coconut milk, baggying, dusting, using moisturizing spritz and upping the dc sessions.

I have no urges to relax but I have had it with this styling situation. Im very very hair bored..

ohh mook I actually have a question for you. When you do flat twists, like the one in your avy for example, how do you get them to stay tight at the end of the part? Mine always get puffy and loose at the end. Im pretty sure its my grip, but even when I try to make them tighter it swells up because the twisting at the end of the part is loose. Like a domino effect. Doing flat twists going back like cornrows however, are a cinch for me.

How many months have you been transitioning? 22Months (I think I'm right be hind you Mook)
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? Not sure yet, maybe in the summer maybe new year. I guess we'll see how i feel in the next couple of months.
What is your general hair type? I think I'm mostly 4A
What has been your general transition method? I wet bun, flat iron and rollerset. I actually dont do anything different from when i was relaxed.

See you ladies in October. I stalk your fotkis and blogs because I don't want to cut any of my hair off. Sometimes I get tempted... but it ain't gonna happen no time soon!

How many months have you been transitioning?

I've been transitioning for 71 weeks.

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?

I have 3 inches of relaxed hair left (slowly trimming them away).

What is your general hair type?

Wavy / Curly

What has been your general transition method?

Keeping both textures alike (straightened via flat iron) work well for me.

Ugh! Me too....i needed the ladies here to talk me down off the ledge last weekend. Wash days are roughest for me cuz I see them curly qs springing around and get anxious to cut off the relaxed ends :ohwell:

BUT I WILL NOT GIVE IN TO TEMPTATION!!!!:nono:

When you do flat twists, like the one in your avy for example, how do you get them to stay tight at the end of the part?
In my Avi, I have tiny black rubberbands on the ends of them to keep them from coming loose. Hope this helps.

How many months have you been transitioning? About 1 year
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? I've done mini-cuts twice since I started transitioning, taking off 3 inches each time. I want the unprocessed hair to be at least APL before I cut off all of the relaxer. (I'm nervous that I won't like my hair short, or that I will decide to go back to a relaxer.)

What is your general hair type? 3c and 4/a
What has been your general transition method?
Uh, method? I'm making it up as I go. I wear my hair up, or in some kind of bun almost everyday. I was letting my hair airdry, but the past month or so, I have been blowdrying or even pressing my hair, because it is getting more difficult to manage the two textures.

How many months have you been transitioning?

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?
when I hit 24 months

What is your general hair type?
3b/c

What has been your general transition method?

How many months have you been transitioning? Almost 16 months

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? Still not sure, doing mini chops as I see fit.

What is your general hair type? For reference purposes, 3c/4a but you know...dense, fine strands

What has been your general transition method? Bunning, twist outs, braid outs...just keeping this stuff detangled, moisturized and neat looking!

How many months have you been transitioning? 13 months
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? maybe between 18-24 months
What is your general hair type? 4a
What has been your general transition method? co-washing and bunning or bantu knots

  • How many months have you been transitioning? 12 months, 1 week, and going strong
  • When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? September will make 18 months, so I will start heavily considering it after that. My ultimate goal would be March/April 2010, or when the weather starts getting warmer around then.
  • What is your general hair type? Mostly 3c, with a few patches of 4a. Fine strands, dense. I'm S and O if you go by LOIS.
  • What has been your general transition method? Bun.... Every.Single.Darn.Day. :ohwell: I have found that manipulating my hair too much is a bad thing. The ends are really weak and snap off very easily.

You know... most people say that after several months or so, their transition got easier. They found their routine and it's smooth sailing because they know what to do etc. I've never really felt that way, and yet I've felt like I've tried everything to make this transition easier: washing in sections, slathering my hair with condish, upping the protein, upping the moisture.... My hair still breaks off like nobody's business and I still get frustrated. I'm a certified PJ, mostly for the reason that I'm still looking for the right combo of products, which hopefully I found just this month. I think that I am JUST NOW nailing down a routine and staple product regimen. I couldn't for the life of me find a cream-based moisturizer that didn't leave my hair hard when applied soaking wet.... I found that I have to apply product to my hair when still soaking wet or it will snap off!

So... here's to a longer and continued transition, provided that my hair continues to cooperate. I am backing down from the ledge too after chopping some bangs when curiosity got the best of me  I need this thread....I don't want to chop yet!

How many months have you been transitioning? 1 year as of the 22nd!
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? I really want to cut off the last of it by my 17 month mark so I can go back to school all natural. But if I am still too afraid, it will be gone by the new year. For now, I am trimming and inch for and inch.
What is your general hair type? 3C/4A. 3C at the nape and the front dominantly. and then theres the sporatic 3c and 4a crown (and everywhere else) lol
What has been your general transition method? it changed overtime. But it has remained basically the same since about november now. After cowashing, I braid my hair into 4 big braids at night, tie it down with a satin scarf and then throw a bonnet over it. In the morning, I turn the unbraided waviness into a bun or puff of some kind.

Whew! This thread has been my saving grace! I've been cruising through the hair board and I started to have fantasies of BC-ing! I'm 7 months in to my transition. I need to type this post and get the heck out of LHCF before I do something rash! :nono: See ya! I better go on some kind of hiatis.....:wallbash:

LOL...you guys are gonna need a new exec board for your club soon. It's BC season on LHCF.

Good luck with those transitions, ladies!

Just dropping by to wish you ladies luck on your transition to natural hair. I am newly texlaxed and not ready to take the natural plunge just yet, may never be, but that doesn't mean I can't support you ladies. Transitioning to texlaxed hair is hard too, come to think of it and I am attempting an 8-12 month stretch this time around. Good luck everyone:yep:.
