NEW * LONG TERM TRANSITIONERS CLUB

I decided to go natural sometime aroung January 2008: so, it's been approximately 16 months. My hair type is either 4 a/b. Since I haven't achieved a length I'm comfortable with, I mostly try to hide my hair, but since I couldn't figure out an easy way to style it myself (& I really didn't want to pay anyone) I started cornrowing most of it and installing tracks using either bobby pins or sewing it in, while leaving a section out in the top that I micro braid. I like this look because it's very easy to put in & take out, and most people assume my full head is braided. Now I'm considering trying some half wigs. My growth so far is only 6-7 inches. I didn't have a big chop, but I've been steadily chomping bits off for the last 2-3 years, so I don't have any straight ends left, but I've also recently experienced a lot of breakage. After reading through a bunch of stuff all night/morning I think it must be because I've been using a protein-based conditioner (and one product in particular which I didn't realize I was supposed to wash out--I was using it like my mom used grease when I was a kid). I hope to set myself on a healthier path so I can reach bra-strap length by the end of 2010.

I wish you the best on your hair journey. I'm confused, you've been transitioning for 16 months but trimming relaxed ends for 2-3 years?

:yep:

PLEASE explain. I'm lost.
bUT WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!

I didn't fall victim to my BC temptations. I did a nice cut on Wednesday though. 3-4 inches all over. I'll post pix tonight hopefully on my blog.

This is a really good transition for me overall. I will be fully prepared to handle my natural hair in a healthy way when I do decide to BC. :)

Hello Everyone!
I thought i posted here, but cant find myself so i guess not - lol

How many months have you been transitioning? 28.5 months
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? NEVER, as my hair grows and sheds they kinda just go away on their own - lol. Trying to go for length. If i still have some relaxed ends when i get to WSL, then maybe i'll snip - im such a baby - lol
What is your general hair type? 3c/4a fine/cottony/puffy
What has been your general transition method? BUNS and BKT has been working so far. First year was the worst - i looked horrible in buns, but now i can pull them off.

I'm joining this club even though I have only been transitioning a year now. I am somewhere between texturized and texlaxed. I decided to go natural after a 6 month stretch where I found out I was preggo. I am not interested in relaxing while pregnant so I am transitioning.

How many months have you been transitioning? 6
When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? Maybe this time next year. I want to do at least 18 months. I will trim inch for inch up until that time.
What is your general hair type? I think I am a 4A.
What has been your general transition method? Wash and go. High Protien. Gentle Detangling and lots of Deep Conditioning. I don't protect or bun often at all. I just wash and roll. I think a lot of my habits from being natural for 5 years are still left over. I don't treat my hair any differently. I don't straighten anymore than I did then.

How many months have you been transitioning? 13

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? whenever they get too straggly/thin. I am hoping for 2 years, though-

What is your general hair type? 4a-ish

What has been your general transition method? braidouts, braidouts, braidouts....I use coconut oil and shea butter for a moisturizer and sealant, respectively. I bun when my braidout gets too wild and or I do wet buns straight form the shower...

I am not presently, but it is my GOAL to long transition. I want a natural or a texlaxed bun. I can't have short natural hair or I will relax it. Being Bonelaxed is not what I want. I'd like to do textured styles as well. I have 11 months to go for my first goal. I am currently 1 months post.

I use to think it was 4a/b but I'll never be sure until I'm mostly natural.

What has been your general transition method?
Month 1-6: Straight styles. (Wash, blow dry, press natural roots, flat iron relaxed part)
Month 6 - ?: Curly styles. (Done with the curling iron. They last for two weeks until my next wash)

How long have you been transitioning since the texlax?

I saw that this thread was a lil' old, but so what, I'll contribute!

How many months have you been transitioning?12 months

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?
September 2010

What is your general hair type?
3B/C

What has been your general transition method?
I am a daily co-washer, every three days I deep condition.
As far as hairstyles, I stick to buns and ponytails almost exclusively. I straighten my hair once a month or less

I'm 4 months post and holding on. I am trying to have a more positive and hands on relationship with my transitioning and natural hair. So far, so good.:yep:

I'll bite too!

I've been transitioning since 1/1/09. I so regret texlaxing my hair on that day b/c I BC'd on 9/20/08! I am mostly CNAPP, 4a (middle) and 3c (back). I may BC on 1/1/10, depending on my length. I really don't want to sacrifice length just to BC. Having short hair is the reason I texlaxed last time!

How many months have you been transitioning?
21 months

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends?
When I reach MBL I will start trimming off an inch every 2 months...I have no idea how long that will take. I started off EL and am now APL, maybe/hopefully i will be BSL by december then MBL will come maybe another year later??

What is your general hair type?
4a coily medium/fine strands and medium density

What has been your general transition method?
Braiding for 7 weeks at a time and bunning in between. A year into my transition I ended all direct heat. I may start canerowing my hair a lot more now as well.

I don't know if I qualify...I'm almost 7 mos in. I saw lipyt is in 6 mos, so I'll add my lil post! ;-)

How many months have you been transitioning?
6+ mos so far. Will be 7 mos fully Feb. 22nd.

When/if you plan to cut off relaxed ends? I don't plan to BC. But, I have been trimming 1/2" every other month. I do not wanna BC like last time, since I adore long hair. I want to reach my goals with the NG...and gradually trim off the processed hair as I grow it out. It could be years before I'm fully rid of the processed ends, that is as long as I don't get annoyed and chop like last time!

What is your general hair type? Generally 4a with 3c too in a lot of areas.

What has been your general transition method?
Keeping my hair braided underneath LF's and FLW's (full lace wigs). I also will do cornrows w/ extensions, and crochet braids in summer. Too hot down here to be wiggin' it!

HHG ladies!
