Oh Neith,
I so do not like set backs as you know I am currently going throgh one. Girl you will bet through it.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You found a problem and you are working to correct it. Also, you are informing others. Continue to treat your hair with TLC and it will grow back before you know it.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I'm sorry to here this, however you found out for yourself what happened and now you're making changes. The edges and the nape still look healthy so once you change things up a little you should start seeing growth again.

Thank you for sharing and stop saying you're a "loser". This expereince is not only going to help you but someone else, including me.

wow Neith your being way to hard on yourself

I am guilty of total neglect and doing the least to get by so many times

no worries your hair will recover, quickly too!

my daughter when she first started doing her hair ripped through her nape, it was doing better in no time flat once I realized what she was doing and addressed it with her on what to do and to stick to it

Do you think wearing a headband could have also been the culprit? I assuming you wore one everyday. Looking at your damage; it looks like headband damage.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially since the rest of your hair looks fantastic. Even if you only tie the headband on for a limited time (just to get the hair to lay down) It might be a good idea to lay off of it for a while.

Also, I'm wondering what do you put on when you go to bed? If you're using a scarf, the way you tie it could be adding to the damage.

Or do you use a bonnet that has elastic that touches your hair? If you do then you may need to roll the elastic up into the bonnet a little so it's not directly on your hair.

This will get better, hopefully the MN will do it but if not then it might be time to get some Boundless Tresses or Some Bee Mine.

Those will surely get your hair to come back.

Woo Woo Woo Neith. It will be ok. When I had a relaxer and was transitioning my nape hair was too busted. I thought that was the worst part of my head. After finding LHCF I realized that it was just fragile. I really began to baby it and always left that part in a little braid - even when I had a sew in. Now it is the longest most moisturized part of my hair. Now if I could get the rest of my head to look like that I would be doing something

Don't worry about it neith! Those little curls are cute and when your hair is a foot longer, they will be cute little layers.

This is a learning experience, and not a bad one, either. Your hair looks great.

I never wear a scarf. Sometimes I do wear a bonnet, but only a few times per month. It's an old bonnet with worn out elastic  so I don't think it affected me. Most of the time I just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

Yeah, I'm not using the headband anymore. I would use one to lay my edges down daily. It's funny because I haven't been wearing the headband out for months.

I will just twirl them to make them curly when I moisturize... they kinda blend in with the rest of my hair.

I was thinking about BT or Bee Mine, but my nose is very sensitive to sulfur. I have attempted BT like 3 times and couldn't even make it halfway through a bottle. The scented one too. If the MN/Aloe doesn't work I'll try and stick it out again. lol

You are not a loser and you are certainly not dumb, now stop that. It takes courage to come forth, so thank you for sharing this information as it will be helpful to all.

The great thing is that you know exactly what went wrong and you can correct it immediately. I'm sure once you starting moisturizing those areas your hair will thrive. :yep:

Neith......your nape and edges will bounce right back girl. You are so not a loser.

You are very hair knowledgeable IMO! E-hugs to you girl!!!

Welp, this is how I'm going to be walking around for a while:

Okay, let me be positive. I feel better than I did this morning. It's not that bad... at least I have some hair there. I've got my monistat

You sure do have some pretty hair! Don't worry though. Now you are on the right track to babying them and they will grow back nicely. Good luck!

Oh, Neith. I am so sorry. I agree. Just baby them. When I first joined this forum I went crazy. Massage crazy. Plus I was sleeping condish. overnight. BIG NO, NO. And other things. Then I noticed my hair thinning in the back. Right down the middle mostly in my nape area. I stopped doing the above things. Massaged but not so vigourosly ( LOL ) used some coconut oil and left that area alone. It recovered.

Do a light massage with an oil that promotes growth and let it rest. It will catch back up.

Thanks for the advice Neith, and for sharing this with us. It really doesn't look that bad IMO. You have beautiful hair btw.

First of all, this picture is sooo cute. Your expression and the HAIR, look fabulous. Hang in there...

A lil story...Saturday, after walking around with matted, gel caked, tangled hair, I finally made the opportunity to comb my hair out.

While all matted and on the go, I was traveling and I said [more like whisphered a silent prayer], "Please don't let me see no Niko's cousins with this 'tow' up hair I got right now. It was so matted and puffy, I looked like I had one of those 1950's beehives. I could barely get it into a ponytail.

I lost several curls during the detangle process. I should know better, right? Not necessarily...we are all human.

Setbacks help you to refine your process and do things even better next time. :yep: Just keep going. It's not about perfection, it's about being and doing your best when you can.

Neith you are so pretty!! You will just start to baby those edges. I love putting shea butter on mine to help lay them down. I also love using the Hairveda CoCosta oil (Castor oil works too) on them too, I put that on in the mornings.

You'll find something that works for you, and stick with it, I think there is an edges challenge on here somewhere, they are great for reminders

Awwww... thank you!! :bighug:

This hair will grow back. When I first went natural I was always slicking my hair down in the front. The edges of my hair are very sensitive, so I am now careful about not doing this too often. Also be sure not to tie your scarf to tight at night. This goes for the microfiber towel too during drying times.

Any updates Neith? I bet your hairline and nape are in tip top shape!

I miss you girl................:yep:
