A Cautionary Tale (Pictures Included Of Course)

Janet, I know you were looking for waist length hair, but I do not see a set back! Your ends look so thick and lush now! Sooo much better than the prior pictures! And from a fellow-grayer, just think, now you can take advantage of the gray by staining it blonde through the color method of your choice! You could still fulfill your blonde desire! It's just a thought, but consult with the expert dontspeakdefeat for your final plan of action! Stay sweet! HHG!

Janet, your hair looks beautifu! Your hair has definitely grown(retained length) as evidenced by the improved thickness of your hair! I definitely see progress:)! I know you'll reach your hair goals soon. HHG:)!

Janet, your hair is beautiful and so full. I am so glad you posted this. I know you are disappointed, however I agree with others, you are blessed to find a stylist that will work with you through these challenges. HHG.

janet
Beautiful hair! It is noticeably thicker at the ends and looks very healthy. I too understand the perils of blonde. I am still nursing a bald spot from color running out of the foil!

I am glad that you were in such great hands and with someone who understood where you were and where you were trying to go. I understand about the grey and the color too. Glad that you retained your length though and you have someone in your corner who is knowledgeable enough to get you to WL.

So fully expecting a more wonderful post towards the end of the year. :yep:

Your hair is beautiful! You seem to have a stylist that listened to you and understands what your hair needs...:yep:

Janet' you are at still MBL. :notworthy Not budging is way better than regressing, so count those blessings. At least you're at a length that you can do so much with. And your shrunken length is also at a lovely length that suits you. Best of all, you now have a plan to change the course your hair takes from this point on. So this will not always be your story; you've got something to look forward to. :yahoo:

Hey Janet! I can finally post again. A bug in my subscription renewal did not allow me to post for 9 freakin days! LOL Thought I was gonna lose my mind.

Blonde hair dye causes so much damage. I don't think its worth it if you're trying to retain length. I haven't had a whole lot of retention since my last check in back in January and I think my problem is not protective styling on a consistent basis. But don't be sad, you'll reach your goal. We all have our set backs. Its how you learn from past mistakes and bounce back from those set backs that count.

If your hair is mostly grey, why would you need to lift your hair to achieve blonde or lighter colors? My mom can bring her hair to whatever color she wants with nothing more than a semi permanent color over her greys.....

Anyhow I think it will be a great move to go for a warmer tone, I personally feel the blonde is too light and stark for you, if you do light highlights, I suggest you do them like lover4fashion does them, in a more understated way.

I really like the idea of a warm red on you.

I totally know how you feel when it comes to color. Your hair looks beautiful and I I hope you reach all your goals!

wow I can so relate..I'm there right now went to light in September...told the stylist I wanted lighter evenn though the year before she refused and she did went home with flowing hair profile pic.....next couple weeks hair started hitting the floor ...I got trimmed 4x in the last year I finally went to braids in April because I kept crying over my hair.....I got about 6 inches of black roots....talk about a sister happy to see her roots I can tell the difference 10000% in my texture in thickness I should have been MBL by now but I'm back at BSB!

What I learned is never go as light as I did....and never take the color all the way to my roots..and if for some idiotic reason I do decide to go light as I did be prepared to deep condition twice a week protein 2x a month hair must stay super moisturized....so no never again........

I feel you..I feel ya

Still aiming for MBL this year...WSL oh some other year
I have some damaged spots in my head but luckily the new growth keep it hid

I'm so sorry for your setback, but your hair still looks beautiful!!! I'm happy to hear you've found a stylist you can trust and that she's going to help you reach your hair goals. I'm sure you will still reach your hair goal of WL by the end of the year!!!!

To one of the sweetest personalities on LHCF: Sorry about your set back and I wish you a crazy summer growth spurt to get you quickly to your goal:grin:

Your hair looks nice and thick to me. I see progress but take heart. The only place for your hair to go now is further down your back :-)

janet sorry you did not reach your goal, but your hair is thicker and still at MBL, your hair reminds me of mine as far as texture and I have been following you since I've started on this site. I too get my hair colored lighter but I used hi lights and did more DC's protein and moisture wise this time around.

I am dealing with a setback as far as SSK's even with keeping my hair stretched. You are so close to reaching your goal I just know you will get there.:sneakyhug:
I predict we will both reach our goals this year!!!

Great tale and your hair looks beautiful. I hope to be on the stylists' end of a story like that one day...

Like everyone said, your hair still looks great, but high-lifted color is my #1 hair wrecker--You did GREAT to maintain your length. Most people end up with nohairatall. I was always surprised to see the length you achieved with ultra blonde hair so, just carry on, and so glad you found someone to help with your hair journey!

Aww, sorry to hear how disappointed you are with your hair growth, I totally understand. The good thing is you did not lose any length, you know why you didn't retain any length and now you have a solid plan to reach your goal with the help of dontspeakdefeat. Get ready for WL, it's coming!!

BlackMasterPiece The last time that I got color which was over a year ago- I didn't have nearly as many greys as I do now. So, when I got the color, she lifted it--I didn't get the blonde to cover over the grey--I got the blonde because that's the color that I wanted-- hope that makes sense...

Also a rinse (which is what dontspeakdefeat gave me) will honestly only last my hair 4 or 5 weeks before the greys start popping back up- so the options are rinsing every 4 or 5 weeks or go for the permanent and I chose the latter...I have a mixture of about 3 different colors in my head-

As much grey as I have--to me it didn't look like my hair was 50% grey- she was assessing that whilst up in my hair--to me, in the front, I just saw a moderate amount of grey but nothing like half...but I'm glad that works for your mom--she's fortunate!

No matter your length, your hair is beautiful. I actually love the blond! Because of you, I have decided to color my bangs blond in Dec (my hair is colored reddish brown). Anyway, I'm sure this issue will past, and your will continue to grow longer and longer.

You hair looks great!! Can't wait to see what color you choose! I'm sure you'll start seeing progress soon after that. Thanks for sharing :)

D@mn it, Janet. I'm sorry you are feeling down.:bighug: But, I gotta say that your hair looks really beautiful and I agree that the ends have thickened up alot :yep: Also, I've heard more than once that sometimes, we stall out at mbl for a while to thicken up and then the length comes..... Perhaps this is what has happened to you and your next length check will be a pleasant surprise.:yep:

HHG!

I don't post much but I just wanted to say Hugs. Not only is your hair beautiful but you have the personality to match your gorgeous mane! I think this is evident by the out pouring of support you have here. I agree with many of the comments posted here about the thickness of your hair. Can't wait to see your new color. Also, thank you so much for your infectious positivity on this forum.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you shared this story! I've been wanting color for a few months and was considering transitioning mainly because I do not want to EVER double process my hair with permanent color and a relaxer. But I really had to wonder if it was even worth it (for me) since I love the ease of my relaxed hair so much. This post really helped me and like you said its not that you can't color, but are just warning us to be careful! I really appreciate your thorough review and great shoutout to Tamika....I love her YT channel!

Thanks for sharing Janet Im sure u will reach your goals now that yu know how to better manage your coloured hair.

this post is also helpful to me as I also coloured (actually a year ago) and have had reduced retention because of it.

I had been trimming away the colour but Now Im gonna do a cellophane over top of my colour and see if it will add some strength to my ends.

I just wanted to add that your hair still looks great even though you were disappointed ... your disappointment is actually some ladies goal !!!!
