if i want to torture myself ill wax my own legs and give myself a brazilian. but to ply my head with stinky crap that burns...no thank you!

ugh!!! i used to HATE that ish!! scalp be like fiyah fi buuuuuuuuuuun!!!

Neva eva, eva, eva. And it is not because of the chemicals on hair aspect, or embracing my "brown pride". I use to always dread dealing with the phyical task of relaxing. I am natural, and if my hair is flatironed, people assume that I have a relaxer, so...really for me, what would be the point of relaxing? None.

:lachen: The way that sounded in my head was HILARIOUS.

Nope. I don't have anything against people who relax their hair - it works really well for some. But my hair is so sensitive that it will break off from a relaxer NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I've had several braiders tell me that my hair just isn't suited for a relaxer and I'm better off staying natural.

Several years later my hair is thick, shiny, and long. It may be a hassle sometimes, but I'd rather deal with a healthy beautiful hassle then with a HAM!

im for real!!! hair be trying to dutty wine right off my scalp.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:That comment made my morning! To answer the question I will never go back to a relaxer. I can't keep flat ironed hair for a week because I miss my natural hair. I just end up washing it 3 to 4 days later.

I can never say never. I will say that I will never BC again.:nono: Relaxing once a year would be a great medium...

Oh, we KNOW you can never say never! LOL!

Just playin' with ya!

You don't have to worry about me getting mad! You know I HAD to come to this thread and add my 2 cents!:lachen::eyebrows2 I'm not giving up my natural journey, even though I am having problems moisturizing my hair. I am determined to remain natural through this year. Any time after that, however, I just can't say. I am hoping this thread can stay positive.:look:

Permed my hair at age 16 - My choice after years of pressuring my mother (Although she had a perm she didn't want her daughters to get one.) We both did. Do what I say not what I do, really doesn't work :-).

Leisure curled at age 18
Transitioned back to a permed at age 20/21
Natural again by age 22 - Mommie was sooooo happy. Pops too.
Will be 40 this year. I am concerned about chopping it all off as I have a tendency to do that more than I am concerned about perming again. I like both short and long hair on me. I am in a grow it long phase right now

no, if i want straight hair I'll just rollerset/flat-iron or weave it up. you know, something that wont take me years and years to undo once i am over having the straight hair

I wish I could say I never would go back, but lately I've had my doubts. I've been natural since 2004 and my hair is not growing the way I had hoped. Well, I have not been retaining the growth. I'm getting fed up. I think I could grow my hair faster with the info I've found on this board with texlaxed hair. I think...I'm torn. I love my hair, but it's just not the way I would have hoped it would be after 7 years. I will say that my hair line is top notch.

I know I will never go back to a relaxer.

When I did relax in my 20s & 30s my hair was so thin. One beautician even told me that the top of my head look like it was thinning so bad that it was balding, and my edges are already thin and I'm fortunate that my edges didn't suffer.

Also, I notice in a lot of women in their 50s 60s and older that relax--over time the hair just gets thinner and thinner (it could be due to genetics) but I really think that after decades of relaxing, it takes it's toll.

I will flat-iron or use a straightening comb if I want my hair straight, but at my age relaxers are a thing of the past.

as if right now, no. considering how easy it is to wake and go, and to be without all the bald spots...
i can't see why i'd go back. if i wanted a sleek do, i'd just flat iron or rollerset.

Im part of the never say never camp. I do believe if I get the urge to straighten I would try that BKT before a relaxer.

Never. I only say this because I regularly get my hair flat ironed and if I really really wanted to I can extend the same press for up to 6 weeks and even longer :look:...and I dont consider my hair heat trained either. i have no issues with reversion so it doesnt make sense to get a relaxer when i get better long lating results flat ironing my natural hair.

There are very few things that I can say without a doubt I will never try again, and getting a relaxer is one of them. I have been natural 23 out of 25 years of my life, and I was making bad choices (ie over pressing/straightening) before I was pressured to get a relaxer. After those two years, I knew I just needed to start over. Now, after 4 years post-relaxer, and I am taking better care of my natural hair, I am much happier.

The exact thing happened to me, and my edges are just now bouncing back.

Omg, this all day everyday. Ill.never relaxer again, but I keep cutting my hair. I cut it from bsl to about 3 inches yesterday!

Natural forever...or rather from this point on.

A relaxer requires a lot more maintenance IMO. I don't like having to worry about touch-ups or spending money on them. Then who is going to apply the relaxer because I sure don't trust myself. Being natural has allowed me to be a lot more lazy with my hair than when I had a relaxer. Nope, no relaxer...natural it is.

I might...idk. I change my hair as I feel like it. Whatever style I choose, It'll grow back healthy because I know how to take care of it. The decision ultimately lies in which takes less time to maintain. Right now, this is my first time natural and I'm still exploring that.

It's been almost three years natural for me, and in the past year the temptation to relax has become stronger and stronger... so I def. can't say that I will never run a quick relaxer thru my hair.

I can pretty much guarantee that I will never relax my hair again. I know that's a strong statement to make and I say it time and time again, but that's because I mean it. If I want straight hair, all I have to do it flat iron it. No chems necessary.

I doubt it but never say never. I'm not a fan of the way straight hair looks on me.

Nope, my hair will stay natural for life.
If I want my hair ‘straight’ I can rollerset/flat-iron or rock a straight wig.

If you had asked me this question last month, I would've responded, "I'll never say never about a relaxer." :ohwell: However, I saw tons of pics of my hair when it was relaxed in some old photo albums of my moms and i can honestly say, I'm natural from here on out! :yep:
