my WORRIES about natural Hair!

I dont have an SO, but I always wondered about that! LOL...!

But when i'm in the shower, I use a denman to detangle and smooth back into a bun :yep:

I dunno, it looks smooth and presentable, and maybe even (dare I say it :look:) sexy!
 
Dont worry about that Sweetie, unless your sweet one is from another race, he knows what natural hair is and wears a fro too some times.

BUT....:)

You better braid your hair before getting out of this shower to avoid SSK...;)

^^^ thanks gurl, but I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYONE AT ALL WITH NATURAL HAIR! <---clarification--->no adults! i don't know anyone brazen enough to chemically alter a baby's hair. Not anyone personally AT ALL

so i doubt any guys around me will be REALLY use to it!
MY WHOLE FAMILY is STILL THINKING #1 I'M NUTTS & GOING THRU SOMETHING
#2 THAT I WILL LATER RELAX! lol <---nada

my 4 yr old niece keeps stressing #1 that i have an AFRO
#2 that i should have long hair like her :nono:
#3 keeps asking why did "i cut all my hair off anyway" ...."you should not cut your hair off.....lmao

He's seen my 4b fro in all its shrunken glory straight out of the shower and loves it
It took me a while to get confident enough to wear my fro fully shrunken in public
Now I'm confident enough to go swimming and what not but in the beginning I would have stayed tanning by the beach and not in the water
 
All that comes with the territory of being Natural, you just deal with it and move on, I mean, Natural hair has shrinkage and that is what it do, he can get with it or not, he might even like it better when it is all wet and curly and smelling good!!

Not in one now....but the last guy I was dating loved it.

I HAVE RECENTLY GONE NATURAL, totally on a whim:lachen:AND SO FAR IT'S ONE OF THE BEST FEELINGS I COULD HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED! WHO KNEW??? I JUST DON'T KNOW WHY HAIR has such an impact on THE WAY WE FEEL AT TIMES?:drunk:

So, I have to admit I have one area of discomfort.....HOW WILL MY MAN FEEL ABOUT MY WASH DAY...SHRINKAGE....FRO ACTION????

Well the only way to know is to ask or spring it on him and see how he reacts. My advice is to start to get used to your hair and get comfortable with it by looking through the fotki's of naturals, youtubes and naturals threads....they will start to make you see the beauty in it and get your confidence up:yep:

I MEAN, AS MY HAIR GROWS OUT, IT will TAKE LONGER TO STYLE (so far i have no idea how i will be styling) after water hits it, and how to reduce the amount of time needed detangling, conditioning, moisturizing, & styling? DOES YOUR HUBBY OR BOYFRIEND GIVE YOU THE SIDE-EYE:nono: AFTER YOU TRANSFORM AFTER A WASH?

As your hair gets longer.....to reduce detangling time you need to wash/condition/DC your hair while braided in 8-10 braids so that you don't encounter tangles or knots. Wash and go on loose hair works when you have a twa....once you get to my stage in the game.....wash and go hair can be achieved with pixie braids or mini twists or some sort of style based on braids....never with loose hair.

I MEAN SHOULD I COME OUT OF THE SHOWER WITH A BLACK "POWER TO THE PEOPLE" AFRO PICK IN MY HAIR? IDK.....

Natural hair is quite simply the hair that we were blessed with at birth, thats it. It doesn't necessarily mean you're a black nationalist, or a vegan, those are stereotypes about naturals. Being natural can mean whatever you want it to mean. I think you need to become more comfortable with yourself as you are. If you carry yourself with pride and confidence, people will recognize you as being fly no matter what your hair is like.

DO U DARE GO SWIMMING? Will I GO INTO THE POOL WITH LUSCIOUS CURLS, BODY, TWISTS, ETC.......BUT INSTEAD OF EXITING AS BO DEREK ----WILL I COME OUT LIKE POW!!! WTF??

Absolutely, I just make sure my hair is in Pixie braids, Mini twists, Cornrows or an individual extension style. As long as my hair is in those styles it will go in and come out looking the same:yep:

Even if you did come out with a fro, you wouldn't die lol. I think advertising in this country is so anti-frizz and big hair that it makes us insecure about our naturally big hair. In many ways going natural is about de-programming yourself...it will be a bit of a journey.

WOW, i'm a bit nervous on the reversal of hair texture (even without heat<---no no for me)!!!

I don't know if wash days & going to bed with a fro (in front of my future man :blush:...lmao) is the ticket?

You' just gonna have to see how your man feels about it. I would suggest building confidence and pride about it so that when you do bring it up to him there is a contagious enthusiasm in the air.

Also, I see you live in ATL, aren't there Naturals left right and center in ATL?

Make sure he's on board 100%.
It's a negative for me. Dh says I look like a dike and than he reworded it to I look butch. So I, on most occasions wear my hair scarf...everywhere or a wig. Unless I have hair down my back, to him, I look like a man.

OMG:nono: Girl, no he didn't, I am glad you are still on the Natural Board, he just don't like the Shortness, he will come around when it gets Longer, I am so sorry he said that to you, that had to have Hurt.:sad:
 
When I first went natural I would put a scarf on as soon as I got out the shower. Then one night it slipped off in bed and I woke up to him rubbing his hands in it (something I never let him do once it was styled). It wasn't him that needed to embrace my hair, it was me. Good luck OP.

I don't like to be bothered when I'm doing my hair so I plan time for myself when SO isn't around to see my hair. But that's part of who you are, if he can't deal with it, then you guys have a whole other problem. I don't go around criticizing other people about their hair, straight, curly or otherwise, so that is certainly not acceptible behavior in my relationship. Especially considering the history we've had with are hair in this county. I've got a new attitude and you better get with it.

My SO says that I look like a lion when I detangle my dry hair. He thinks it is cute.

I also use my denman in the shower.

He is also very big on black women wearing their hair in naturally so there is that as well. His mother has been natural her whole life. She only presses on occasion. Most of his aunts wear braids or locs, so I really lucked out.



I tell my SO about stories from this board about women having issues with their partners not appreciating their natural hair. He told me that men are visual creatures and some of the more shallow ones can't get past certain things like silky straight hair or big butt or big boobs. If a woman changes something that man can't accept as beautiful, the relationship is doomed according to my SO.

So, I would say let a new mate see your natural hair as early as possible. There is no use in dealing with a man that cannot accept your true self.
 
My FH is fully aware of my natural hair whether it's fully shrunken to 2 inches or blown out to 10 inches. I love showing him how healthy my hair is and he likes my hair regardless of the state. But he's been on this "hair journey" with me since jump because he did my BC.
