My Traumatic Hair Drama last night( kinda long)

I posted about a week ago about the new miracle conditioner I had made by mixing Motions Silk Protein, Generic Humectress, castor oil, porosity control, EVOO, honey and aloe vera gel.....ok, since it had worked so well I decided to mix up some more that following day. Last night I clarified my hair because I had a bit of scalp buildup...I then put the stuff from a few days ago in my hair, massaged it in and left it on with my plastic cap for about 10-15 minutes while i did the rest of my shower stuff. I rinse, it feels great, shine, yada yada yada...I leave the towel on it to absord some of the water while I dress.
I took the towel off and proceeded to comb through before I put in my leave in, I happened to look in the mirror and there were little white balls coating my hair!!!!! They were too small to pick out, i couldnt wipe them out, so I had to go shampoo my hair 3 more times to get the majority of it out...my hair was left tangled and feeling a bit dry even though I used CON shampoo...and all the stuff still wasnt out!!!! I had to get a bristled brush and brush through my hair while it was wet to get the stuff out. Nothing a put in my hair softened it either

..its very shiny, but feels icky...I'm so sad about it today..I am now officially done experimenting!!!!!

I am sorry to hear that Cheerbear.

The thing about mixing all that stuff is that the chemical properties of each can react to each other, sometimes in a bad way. Maybe you can wait a day or two and clarify again and just deep condition with the motions. Don't worry, your hair should be back to norm. in no time

i had problems washing CON out of my hair too...it took me 4 times to get it out! i gave it away to my sister and she loves it!

I'm sorry, Cheerbear! I agree w/nurseN98. I know that it worked for you before, but maybe you just need something more simple as far as a conditioner?

Have you not had success w/other conditioners (not concocted by you)? Are you looking for a conditioner that would give you more slip?

O.k. I have some leftover "concoction" in my fridge that I was going to use this weekend. (Motions CPR,coconut milk, avocado, banana,EVOO,Honey and a few other things). It all worked really well on Friday and my hair was nice and soft. Now, after hearing your story, I'm SCAAARD to use the leftovers

I found that anything with HONEY mixed in should be used right away and then trashed because the honey congeals up if kept for too long. OR, warm the mixture just slightly to get that honey nice and fluid again.

Sorry that happened to you. However, DON'T stop experimenting just because you had a bad time. I'm sure the folks who make the products that people spend so much money on didn't get it "right" the first time either. Also, please take into consideration that some products CANNOT be mixed and then left to sit around...some MUST be used immediately or within a few hours. Decomposition of chemicals DOES happen.

Now put on your experimentation cap and go make something.

That happens to me when I mix Castor Oil with PC and Motions Silk. It could also be the aloe vera gel. I find if I use gel like products with creamy producrs you get a weird combination. The products don't blend well with each other.

Don't stop experimenting though!

I'm sorry about your issue CheerBear.

I always cringe when I see people mixing 5 and 6 different things together (even if some of them are "natural"...in fact, ESPECIALLY if some of them are natural) because no matter how good they all sound (or work) seperately, how they will fare together after few washes is a toss up, at best.

I hope this didn't cause any serious damage.

Thanks for the responses ladies..I dont think any serious damage was done, just a bit dry from the repeated washings..I'll give it a couple days and take care of it. I'm going to have to use any conconctions immediately after making them because I think it either separated or the chemicals reacted funkily together.
Dolce...the products all work fine for me separately and my conditioners all perform adequately..I just got bored that night and wanted to see how they would perform all at once. But hmm...now that I have these natural butters and oils, I'm gonna get out my blender and go to work...hopefully these wont react crazily.

The exact thing happened to me before I bet it was the Aloe Vera gel if you used Fruit of the Earth, since it's not 100% Aloe Vera something in it will do that when mixed with conditioner!

wow, you are one brave soul to be mixing ALL those products together! i hope that you can correct the dryness.

Re: My Traumatic Hair Drama last night( kinda long

I had this happen when I used Wild Growth oil on my wet hair as a leave-in. I think the mixture of the castor oil may have been the culprit, castor oil is very thick so I'm careful what I mix it with. Perhaps try fewer ingredients next time especially mixing pure products like castor oil and aloe gel with store products like hummectress since they tend to have a bunch of different ingredients that can't always be accounted for.

I know how you feel. I'm sorry to say that I threw away my bottle of amla oil because everytime I used it (twice) I would get the same nasty build up in my hair. Don't worry, after a couple washes it should be gone.
