I decided to take down my hair this weekend, so that I could prep it for my new do for my vacay. I was so excited to see if I made it to BSL again. Guess what?? I did! I was so pleased to see that I gained the 1.5" inches that I needed. However, my wash day yesterday was a disaster!!
(unbraiding my hair)
I detangled my hair really well to get rid of all the shed hair on Saturday. (3 mos. worth of shed hair -- normal for me)
Then, I slathered conditioner in my hair and twisted it up. I slept overnight with the conditioner.
Yesterday, I washed and again used my denman and a small tooth comb to detangle. Everything was fine.
I decided to try adding salt in my conditioner because I had great results with it at the beginning of the year. I'm not sure what I did wrong because as soon as I rinsed the conditioner/salt concoction out, my hair formed HUGE DREADS!!
I tried using every conditioner that I had and added a bunch of coconut oil. I really don't know what went wrong. I may have used too much salt? I don't know. What I do know is that I had to spend the next 4 hours carefully detangling, and I lost a lot of hair in the process in addition to my shed hair. I ended up cutting a piece that I couldn't detangle. I'm so upset that I know if I straightened right now my hair would be much thinner. The only saving grace is that although my hair is naturally thin, I have a lot of strands so it gives the impression of me having 'thick' hair.
Finally finished.
I decided to do a flexirod set to help straighten my hair. It didn't dry fully, so this is what I got.
My Growth Comparison
2007
2008 - Longest I've ever been in my life -- BSL
2009 -
Decided to end my transition..minichopped in February
Chopped the rest of my ends -- back to APL April 09 (was down about losing length but happy to be 100% natural -- transitioned for 2.5 yrs)
August 09
December 09
As always, thank you guys for your support and help!!! I'm looking forward to another great year. I'm not planning to trim until I get to WL. Hopefully, I'll get there next year. I only need 4".
UPDATE:
This is my new install. I think I'm a kinky curly girl for life, but I had to switch it up for the winter. It's too cold to keep wetting my hair.
