My Hair Growth Journey Update - Success and Setbacks (PIC HEAVY!)

I decided to take down my hair this weekend, so that I could prep it for my new do for my vacay. I was so excited to see if I made it to BSL again. Guess what?? I did! I was so pleased to see that I gained the 1.5" inches that I needed. However, my wash day yesterday was a disaster!!

(unbraiding my hair)

I detangled my hair really well to get rid of all the shed hair on Saturday. (3 mos. worth of shed hair -- normal for me)

Then, I slathered conditioner in my hair and twisted it up. I slept overnight with the conditioner.

Yesterday, I washed and again used my denman and a small tooth comb to detangle. Everything was fine.

I decided to try adding salt in my conditioner because I had great results with it at the beginning of the year. I'm not sure what I did wrong because as soon as I rinsed the conditioner/salt concoction out, my hair formed HUGE DREADS!!:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

I tried using every conditioner that I had and added a bunch of coconut oil. I really don't know what went wrong. :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: I may have used too much salt? I don't know. What I do know is that I had to spend the next 4 hours carefully detangling, and I lost a lot of hair in the process in addition to my shed hair. I ended up cutting a piece that I couldn't detangle. I'm so upset that I know if I straightened right now my hair would be much thinner. The only saving grace is that although my hair is naturally thin, I have a lot of strands so it gives the impression of me having 'thick' hair.

Finally finished.

I decided to do a flexirod set to help straighten my hair. It didn't dry fully, so this is what I got.

As always, thank you guys for your support and help!!! I'm looking forward to another great year. I'm not planning to trim until I get to WL. Hopefully, I'll get there next year. I only need 4".

UPDATE:

This is my new install. I think I'm a kinky curly girl for life, but I had to switch it up for the winter. It's too cold to keep wetting my hair.

I still don't know why some things that normally work can occasionally make a hair mess. Could be the weather...or maybe your hair wasn't fully detangled like you thought it was.

at any rate, your hair is looking absolutely beautiful and congrats on making BSL.

I had to do a long overdue aggressive trim I've been focusing on my roots and as a result my ends have been ignored. So I gotta get back on my grind.

WOW Ediese - that is amazing - you're one of my hair idols (along with Nichi, Sera Mdwezi etc etc) and the inspiration for joining the Weave challenge next year !!!

Looking forward to more hair PORN soon x

OMG...CONGRATS on BSL. Your hair is so beautiful. And thanks a lot for posting your progress so that we can get some inspiration!

Congratulations on reaching your first goal. Can't wait to learn more about your hair adventures. By the way, your hair looks great.

hey girl,
i am getting a new sew in by tinnell on Wednesday, i'm kind of excited. with which kind of hair did you decide?

i oiled my scalp for a while before detangling, i think the dreads and knots were formed because you may not have detangled as thoroughly as you think. I have never tried the salt thing, but maybe that contributed. I see you have that Herbal Essences HH, that mess works for detangling. Lol at you cutting that bottle in half.

Good thing there was little damage. Your hair reminds me so much of mine, but your progress is amazing. Thanks for the pics, and good luck!
