Thanks @
Arcadian !! So if you buy it loose from the site you mentioned do they place it in the ring for you or you do that when its received? How does the process work with the loose gems?

The way it works is if you purchase the stone separately, you now have the freedom to purchase your own setting, basically dictating how you want your ring to look.
Before doing this however, make sure that whomever you take it to has no issue setting an outside stone, and that the type of setting that you want works for the type of stone you get. Colored stones are deeper than diamonds so always ask about the depth of the setting.
Also, get used to doing measurements in millimeters instead of carats Carats (cts) in colored stones are misleading to say the last.
Say for instance you had a Round 2ct zircon and a round 2ct sapphire. One may be cut to a 8mm round, the other may be cut to a 6mm round because of 2 things, the depth in which they are cut and the gravity of the material.
Just know that trying to put them in the same type of box with diamond measurements won't work...lol.
for most 6-8mm is a great size, but go to whatever size you want, the larger the size however, the higher the stone sits off the finger.
The other part you should be aware of is that most places that set your stone tend to charge a setting fee to do so. I've had some setting fees run me a couple of hundred dollars, to some as little as 40 dollars. Just be aware and know how much they charge up front.
Custom gold smiths generally don't charge a setting fee if they're creating the setting for you. The setting at that point is customized to fit your stone.
From etsy I've used these people
Mastergoldcraft
http://www.etsy.com/shop/mastergoldcraft
Adzia
http://www.etsy.com/shop/AdziasJewelryAtelier?ref=seller_info (necklace for my mom but she loved it)
Daniel M
http://www.etsy.com/shop/danielmjewelry (he does a lot of silver but will also do gold)
All of them will set outside stones but you have to find out what their lead time is and their costs. Adzia is expensive but i adore her work.
There are also larger companies out there at will do custom settings, or, again you can go to a mainstream jeweler like Jared and see what type of settings they may have there.
What type of setting are you looking at btw??
