More compliments as a natural

I too am finding this to be the case. I think it's because our natural hair suits us more, as it is what we're meant to have. We're not doing near impossible things to alter it, just going with the flow. I feel more pride in my appearance with my natural hair, and it is reflected in how I carry myself. People can't help but notice and respond positively to it. I get tickled when AA's ask me what I have in my hair, as if they just don't understand or believe that natural hair is naturally that beautiful. I'm only too happy to be a positive example for natural hair.

I have regular 4b hair and i'm getting TONS of compliments! It's very encouraging, as I was really nervous wearing my own hair out, short.

well, my natural hair is one million times prettier than my relaxed hair was.....plus im not afraid of rain anymore

When I ended my transition and began wearing my natural hair out, I recieved lots of compliments, but for every positive compliment I recieved, I got the same amount in negative compliments. But it is what I think that matters, and I love my natural hair and it's versatility. :)

I wore my hair in a ponytail most times when I was relaxed and the same now that I'm natural. I don't ever remember getting compliments on my relaxed ponytail but I get lots of stares and compliments with my natural pony. The crazy thing is that it's worn the exact same way! Who knew?

 this post CRACKS ME UP!! The other day, I had my mom over, and we were leaving to go to her house, she FREAKED OUT because it was raining, she was like "Char, hurry up and open the car door, can't you see my hair is shrinking!" It took me another 2 minutes to open the car door as I was laughing so hard! oooh, you had to have been there to get it!

Ummm, maybe a few more compliments as a natural

I wore my hair down (to work) a few days ago for the first time as a natural head.... my co workers are used to seeing my hair pinned up. The pin ups are very misleading...they do a great job at hiding the volume

Well, my co-workers swarmed around my desk... they could not believe it was all mine... ((the volume)). Then they wanted to know what "texturizer" I used to "make it curl like that" .... Yes, I told them I was 100% natural.

The next day, I wore it up again...& will keep it up til the summer.

While being relaxed, the attention was all about "the length"... now that I'm natural, the attention is now about "the volume" and "the texture". All of that to say, I'm still getting beautiful compliments, but about dif aspects of my hair

If they stretched out one of your curls, they'd see that you have the length too. Your hair is beautiful!

Can you please post your products? I'm happy that your getting lots of compliments!

I don't really use anything special. My hair really likes the Suave Biolage conditioner, and I also use a generic brand of Biolage's leave in from Sally's. I also use some type of alcohol free gel to smooth my hair back. My favorite is World of Curls. Sometimes I also use shea or mango butter.

I always moisturize my hair at night with the Biolage leave in mixed with oil, and I might put a little gel or mango butter around my edges---and then I tie it down with a satin scarf. I'm lazy when it comes to hair-care, so I only style my hair once every few days after condition washing it. See nothing special---that's why I'm always surprised when someone says something.

Thanks Brownie
I'm hopeful that one day, I'll gain back the length that I once had ;)

I haven't relaxed for over 14 months now, and while I don't know whether that qualifies me as a natural, my hair is so much healthier than it has ever been, and in great condition. I usually wear my hair pulled back and only blow dry/hot curl on special occasions....

ive never gotten a negative comment....maybe they said it behind my back...i do look like i would smack a b!tch :look:

Wow. This post is encouraging. Especially the part about not avoiding water! Now I can FINALLY go on the water rides at Disneyland. And I can wash my hair after going to a smoky club. Oh, the freedom!

I get waayyyyyy more compliments. and rain is a joke. I WALK when it's raining. You would never catch me doing that when I had a relaxer

I've definitely gotten tons more comliments natural than I ever got relaxed. Shoot, when I was relaxed I hated my own hair so I'm not too surprised no one else cared for it either. The key thing for me is that once I went natural I loved my hair so much I honestly haven't cared about what others think but when relaxed I tried soooo hard to make it look good for others and spent hours frying, blowdrying and everything else. Natural was liberating to me on a lot of different levels.

I've never gotten any negative comments either which surprises me especially since my grandmother was not very kind when my cousin went natural a year or so before I did :( Thankfully I haven't heard her say anything negative about natural hair since then but most of my family hasn't said anything either way about my hair.

Me too---I'm hoping the same thing for me. I've been fully natural since January, and I can see that my hair is longer than it was then, but I'm impatient; I want my old length back overnight, and that's not going to happen. As for you, you have nothing to worry about. I think you'll be close to your old length this year. I really believe that!

BTW, do you still do daily condition washes?

Naw, I stopped doing "daily" ones just before winter. I do them maybe 1-2x wk now.

I always stare when I see someone with 4b hair because it looks so pretty. I told someone once that it isn't the hair type that matters, but what products you use and how you style your hair that matters. If you're a 2b, or a 3b, or a 4b and you don't moisturize your hair, and it looks dry and brittle and chewed up, it's going to look awful regardless of the hair type. Oh! The same goes with length. Long, dry hair does not look good on anybody; whereas, short hair can look great if taken care of.
Exactly :)

I just got back from visiting my family in New Orleans and i'm not sure if it's because there isnt the same volume of naturals with my hair type (4b) there that they have in Atlanta, but i got a LOT of attention from men. I think it's because my hair had me looking different from most of the girls they usually see everyday there. Well that and in the 100% humidity my hair was still looking FIYA :D !!

I think i look much better natural. It complements my feautures much better so i'm not suprised at getting more attention in a way. When i was relaxed i think the main reason i would get any attention was because my hair was long NOT because it made me look better. My hair used to draw away from my features; now it seems more like people notice the whole package -- face and hair --FINALLY . -- jainygirl

I receive more compliments, too now that I am natural.

I wore my two strand twists to work this week. I got so many compliments. Majority said my hair was really cute. Once guy said it was the best hair style I ever wore. He said he prefered my own hair to the weave I was wearing.
